18:21 just because it's abandoned it does not mean property rights no longer apply, but then again - in space no-one can hear you steal a washing machine
And the roll before that had someone that loves building and was an insomniac. Sounds like a match made in heaven for sure. Guess thats what happens when he goes through as many games a week as he does.
Not just humour but intelligent humour. Lots of links to songs, films, tv and many other things straight from the hip. I'm in my 50s and totally appreciate the range of Splatty's experience here.
I'm more like 1%, 49%, 50% on that scale. I don't even play computer games, Splat is my "binge-watch streaming show"... Better than anything Netflix has to offer.
Yeah I saw that and went "wait a second... did you not read the most important statline?" I mean all those skills dont matter if the dude refuses or hates to do the thing you need them to do.
Nyctophobia is derived from the primordial Greek goddess of night Nyx. It was later changed by the romans to Nox, Which most other common words, like Nocturnal, are derived.
I don't even play that many games anymore, but I still come to your channel all the time just to listen to your down to earth, friendly, and humble candor. Feels a lot like going over to your homie's house after school and watching them nerd out about that new game they just got into. It's one of the comfiest corners of the internet, for me. Thankyou Splat for putting in all the work to bring us these vids so regularly, and for just being such a goddang standup dude.
It's because you unlocked the shelf storage. So they had a target to take the goods on the floor to. But a drag and drop to move to your "territory" would be great!
Ha! Love your third colonist pick, the mute guy with '10 construction'. Not far under that it proudly states 'Refuses building'.....this should be interesting.
It would be really cool if they took some notes from Paranoia and the computer was damaged or just did not understand humans. They make errors, are slow, get lost, forget things, can only duplicate a certain task so many times and unless you let them take part in periodic meaningless activity, consuming valuable oxygen, water, food and heating, by the way, then they become listless and nearly useless! So the computer uses more and more draconian and convoluted measures to enforce compliance and attempt to improve efficiency. There might be for instance a mandatory morale programme. If anyone gets low morale, they are punished. "Corporal punishment will continue until morale improves."
Wow, I can't believe they came back to work on this game, I added it to my wishlist last time Splattercat reviewed it, but the steam reviews were so bad I just couldn't justify it. Really excited for this one
Surprised by this video. I just finally uninstalled it a few weeks ago for being too buggy, and presumably abandoned. Gave it a bad review as well. Even after watching this I'll probably wait another while to play it again, but I'll move it back to my "play next" folder anyway. Thanks for uploading splat! (Edit: Just checked, I wrote a negative review, two days before the last update news came out 🤦♂, anyway, fingers crossed).
Splat at 18:00 acting like he's never heard of the concept of absentee landlords, lmao. But seriously, the idea of having to pay someone to use (or acquire) something they've demonstratively abandoned tracks pretty well with the trajectory of our current stage of Capitalism.
The refresh x3 means it is refreshing the 3 colonist above. So that Say you close 2 and have 1 left it will give you 2 new and refresh the 1 left for 3 refreshed.
Amazing game. Good way to start is to monitor their negative mood debuffs, memories, by poping pills, mental stabilizers, until the recreation and decor is up enough. You can move the airclock on the opposing wall ater the new room is airtight and build new regular door in place of the moved airlock. You can command them to take off the suit indoors. The trade pod has an animation.
I confess, I liked this game when it first came out.. but it was so catastrophically buggy even in my biased as all heck state i couldnt feel comfy with it. But i was left hoping.. and apparently those hopes have been answered. I hope they implement the "space ships" you use to visit nearby stations etc. back since i thought it was cool to have a small space port on your station.
It does look a lot better since the first time you played this title Splat! I will keep an eye on it, does look like something I might enjoy now that a lot of the jank is ironed out.
FYI Barotruama and Lumencraft just hit 1.0 release, might be worth a final look into them, likewise Ruinarch is meant to hit 1.0 next month, also please Shadows of Doubt demo! :D
I'll be honest and say what I think: for a Dwarf Fortress-inspired game, this one seems leagues ahead of it. It looks much better and costs even less. If the devs ever decide to make a medieval fantasy spin-off, they could easily surpass their idol in a blink
I had been waiting on this game for years and was so disapointed it was a mess. I'm so so glad its getting back on track. I hoped that it would reach the levels of rimworld, IN SPACE!
🤣🤣🤣 "those colonists better keep it between their teeth or I'll put them back in the DNA vat and liquify them, tell me I'm kidding" 🤣🤣🤣 I'm fucking dying dude
the odds say someone else may have mentioned this, but I'm a gambling man, 4:10 the reroll I think is referring tot he slots that will be rerolled, not how many rerolls you have. It might not be what they intended, but maybe it is.
I would guess dookies are worth the bucks because they could be used as fertilizers for farming (I think I saw some seeds). Also, it would be nice to have the exploration aspect be improved to be more exciting: maybe by having the walkway a limited resource - that can be placed and brought back after an area is done.
It seems like the x3 is more about the number of survivors you have to choose from, not the number of times you can refresh. After you picked one, there were 2 left, and the button said x3; and boom. there were 3 when you clicked it.
This past update has really improved overall experience. My old save file I had drove me NUTS trying to clean the germs off thr floors it was not fun at all, this past update (even tho I'm aware how not to get dirty floors) I've not once seen a dirt floor tile in some 40 in-game days.
The helmet thing isn't so much a bug, you dismantled the airlock before they went through it so until they go out and come back 8n they won't take it off, should send them back through before dismantling. I had that happen a load in the earlier versions of the game 😂
Yes, not being able to take the toilets breaks the realism. Not the fact that you're living on a flat platform and traveling to random static flat rocks in space...
Any chance you will look at some games from the 7 day roguelike on itch this year, Splat? Submissions ended Sunday and judging has begun.... Quite a few good ones to try out.
10:00 honestly, my understanding was the humans you grow are... not the smartest. I would think this might be an interesting to keep in as a feature, like "they don't even know how to take a space suit off if there is air unless they go through an airlock" lol ... or the only way to take it off is machines in the airlock. makes sense to me.
I feel like the internal logic of the game isn't well fleshed out. I think it's cool that you are an AI and printing humans, and moving around space building your 'station', but I feel like this could have been done much better with a ship like Space Haven. The premise is cool, but the execution leaves quite a bit to be desired. It does have some interesting features and mechanics though.
I would actually think you DONT want to just throw your biomass out into space. You cant create matter so you really need compost /bury it. Or you are throwing atoms into space that could be broken down and used.
18:21 just because it's abandoned it does not mean property rights no longer apply, but then again - in space no-one can hear you steal a washing machine
Watching splatt unlock a colonist with high construction skill, but "Refuses: building" hurts me so deeply inside.
Indeed, i was almost crying. Classic Splat xD
splat moment
And the roll before that had someone that loves building and was an insomniac. Sounds like a match made in heaven for sure.
Guess thats what happens when he goes through as many games a week as he does.
My dude is SICK of being blue collar.
Reasons I watch the videos:
• 25% get to know new games
• 25% watching gameplay
• 50% the humour
Not just humour but intelligent humour. Lots of links to songs, films, tv and many other things straight from the hip. I'm in my 50s and totally appreciate the range of Splatty's experience here.

1:10 This is how a roadmap overview should be, i love it.
Can I just say that the art style and graphical decisions in this game are amazing. I really love how smooth it, yet retro, it appears to be.
The guy he chose for builder: "Refuses: Build". Lets see how this one plays out!
Airlock go ffffffffffffffffffffff
Yeah I saw that and went "wait a second... did you not read the most important statline?" I mean all those skills dont matter if the dude refuses or hates to do the thing you need them to do.
I knew someone had to have pointed it out 😂
I'm super happy that they took it back to its roots and started to fix it from the foundation and rebuild it!
Nyctophobia is derived from the primordial Greek goddess of night Nyx. It was later changed by the romans to Nox, Which most other common words, like Nocturnal, are derived.
i realy love your "new" style with the cuts, we as your audience see more of the game :)
I don't even play that many games anymore, but I still come to your channel all the time just to listen to your down to earth, friendly, and humble candor. Feels a lot like going over to your homie's house after school and watching them nerd out about that new game they just got into. It's one of the comfiest corners of the internet, for me. I remember backing this on kickstarter, been waiting for it to hit 1.0 and kinda forgot about it for a long time. Good to see how it looks now.
It's because you unlocked the shelf storage. So they had a target to take the goods on the floor to. But a drag and drop to move to your "territory" would be great!

this is one of those games I really want to play but really don't want to play in early access... thanks for covering mate
Wow, I can't believe they came back to work on this game, I added it to my wishlist last time Splattercat reviewed it, but the steam reviews were so bad I just couldn't justify it. Really excited for this one

Love at the end where buddy sleeps on the toilet. XD
Thanks for the videos! You’ve exploded my wishlist of games so much. So many interesting scifi space games
Very charming game. I love the pixel art + low poly aesthetic.
3:20 - Nyx was the Greek Goddess of the night. She was also known as Nox to the Romans. Nocturnal -> Nox -> Nyx -> Nyctophobe.
Same greek root (Virgil probably) in nocturnal and nyctalope, nyctaphobia... « nux, nuktos », « night » Thanks for your content Splat.
Splat, thank you for all the great adventures I´ve had the last years in the games you´ve reviewed!
The incinerator has a "hide in" command. Yep, that sounds safe.
Splat at 18:00 acting like he's never heard of the concept of absentee landlords, lmao.
But seriously, the idea of having to pay someone to use (or acquire) something they've demonstratively abandoned tracks pretty well with the trajectory of our current stage of Capitalism.
3:50 I don't think x3 means number of refreshes, but number of characters that will show up after a refresh
I thought the same
@@QuotidianStupidity me too.
The refresh x3 means it is refreshing the 3 colonist above. So that Say you close 2 and have 1 left it will give you 2 new and refresh the 1 left for 3 refreshed.
In older versions it used to be once you had your first 3 colonists, after you refresh 3 times it would cost dna to refresh
What do you suppose would happen if HAL 9000 met GLaDOS? Love at first sight? AI murder? A new, aggregrate AI that resembles Skynet?
That's the best Arnold Sasquatchneger impersonation i've heard in a while.
Amazing game. Good way to start is to monitor their negative mood debuffs, memories, by poping pills, mental stabilizers, until the recreation and decor is up enough.

The trade pod has an animation.
5 mins in, I'm nervous that his builder has the trait refuses: building
I'm glad the game is shaping up. I remember thinking this game looked really cool and being disappointed it had such a shaky launch
I confess, I liked this game when it first came out.. but it was so catastrophically buggy even in my biased as all heck state i couldnt feel comfy with it. But i was left hoping.. and apparently those hopes have been answered. This update looks great. I'll check it out. I ran through most of the content that existed the last time I played, about a year ago.
Awesome, Space Haven vibes so much wow
Is it just me or is Splatt's voice so soothing it makes you warm and sleepy?
Your definitely a homosexual
Him and kitchen nightmares here on youtube are my background white noise for my worktime naps.
The colonist who slept outside used the low 02 sensor as an alarm clock.
This looks great. I'm a big Rimworld fan so these graphics look beautiful in comparison :D
"DNA Pizza..."
That sounds like a Hustler parody.
It does look a lot better since the first time you played this title Splat! I will keep an eye on it, does look like something I might enjoy now that a lot of the jank is ironed out.

Last Spell just hit 1.0 too. LoL, I’m always surprised when I see a game leave early access.
Playing the video at half speed makes Splat sound hilariously drunk.
I'll be honest and say what I think: for a Dwarf Fortress-inspired game, this one seems leagues ahead of it. It looks much better and costs even less. If the devs ever decide to make a medieval fantasy spin-off, they could easily surpass their idol in a blink
Great video as always.
#300! THIS IS SPLATER......CAT.....RAWWWR! LOL Great vid man. Going to try this one out!
Some poor random spaseship is going to have space deuce all over their space windshield
It's interesting how Splat manages to throw me off every once in a while by adding German words. Although i'm German i always have to recheck. :D
I really hope this game is not abandoned. It looks amazing, but I've been burned by early access to many times.
I like the isometric 3d+sprites mix, reminds me of Populous
Sprites in 3D world = Octopath Traveler ;-)
Getting strong Space Haven vibes from this... Although if this has been out for a while, maybe it came first
He picked it up because he had a place to take it after you fixed the shelving.
Oh I LIKE the look of this.
The graphics are very ps1 retro, I like it.
I had been waiting on this game for years and was so disapointed it was a mess.
I'm so so glad its getting back on track. I hoped that it would reach the levels of rimworld, IN SPACE!
3:35 the UX indicates that you can re-roll, all three slots. Not that you only have 3 re-rolls.
Noctophobia would be fear of nights. While darkness is very common at night it can be dark during the day too such as in caves.
I had this wishlisted for a bit hopeful reached a bit more playable now
Those sprites for the colonists remind me of Final Fantasy Tactics
Thanks for the video.
This reminds me a lot of Space Haven.
Very interesting, thnk you, deff wishlist
Yeah. The early version of this one was honestly, unplayable. Glad to see it come so far.
"Dave... I'm scared Dave..."
This just reminds me on Oxygen not Included, but its neat.
Thx for the video!
🤣🤣🤣 "those colonists better keep it between their teeth or I'll put them back in the DNA vat and liquify them, tell me I'm kidding" 🤣🤣🤣 I'm fucking dying dude
refresh is the number of colonists you are refreshing, seems to be a way to exclude one or 2 of the archetypes from the refresh
Refresh x3 means you refresh 3 characters at once, not only allowed to refresh 3 times.
the odds say someone else may have mentioned this, but I'm a gambling man, 4:10 the reroll I think is referring tot he slots that will be rerolled, not how many rerolls you have.
It might not be what they intended, but maybe it is.
Oooo, Im gonna have to reinstall this
How would you say this compares to Space Haven. Seems around the time this came around quite a few games of the same type showed up in early access.
Personal Bookmark: 5:00
This looks suspiciously like Space Haven.
You've gotta sell those dookies for fertilizer, bro! Can't grow space-crops without human feces.
I would guess dookies are worth the bucks because they could be used as fertilizers for farming (I think I saw some seeds).
Also, it would be nice to have the exploration aspect be improved to be more exciting: maybe by having the walkway a limited resource - that can be placed and brought back after an area is done.
Hey splat how does this compare to space haven? it seems like almost a clone to me but what are your feelings on it?
It seems like the x3 is more about the number of survivors you have to choose from, not the number of times you can refresh. After you picked one, there were 2 left, and the button said x3; and boom. there were 3 when you clicked it.

The helmet thing isn't so much a bug, you dismantled the airlock before they went through it so until they go out and come back 8n they won't take it off, should send them back through before dismantling. I had that happen a load in the earlier versions of the game 😂
Nyx was the goddess of darkness I think in Greek Mythology
Nocto- would be the latin root from "nox", nycto- from "nux" is the greek root.
Pretty sure it doesn't mean you can refresh 3 times, means it will refresh all 3 characters.
Money? Money to build things? Why do you need money for it?
Deep in space, long, long distance from Earth.
Owh-God,
I've really forgotten this game... like forever!
Let's go re-pick up the pace then 🙏
Yes, not being able to take the toilets breaks the realism. Not the fact that you're living on a flat platform and traveling to random static flat rocks in space...
A what-what inspired what-what? Stop. Stop. You had me at 'dwarf'.
I think the prob was you didn't have storage room till you changed the shelfs
6:30 that guy has a construction focus but under 'refuses', the game says they refuse to do 'building'. Huh?
sidenote: the red eye, which identifies to the player, is a reference to HAL9000, i feel
I never hear game music/sounds, I assumed you have them turned off?
Any chance you will look at some games from the 7 day roguelike on itch this year, Splat? Submissions ended Sunday and judging has begun.... Quite a few good ones to try out.
I remember people negative bombed it on steam, but game became good well done developer's.
It gives some oni vibes, but feels fun
The manual draft control is a nightmare in this game... It better allow for auto looting and exploring or I will never touch this game.
10:00 honestly, my understanding was the humans you grow are... not the smartest. I would think this might be an interesting to keep in as a feature, like "they don't even know how to take a space suit off if there is air unless they go through an airlock" lol

"All that is necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing."
- Godspeed

the x3 means you are refreshing 3 people....not how many times you can refresh :)
