I tried switching mine out twice it worked the first time. I think I got it short. It will come on off periodically. And it is getting power. Checked all relays and fuses. Hopefully it's not something in the transmission. I heard it's possible the dash itself sometime shorts out?
I replaced mine and I am still getting problems. P0500 code and paid 185 bucks for the sensor at oreilly. It usually is dead when I start the car and I have to drive 10 miles or more for the speedo and odo to kick back in and another 10 for the check engine to turn off.
same, i think i found today if i jiggle the harness its connected to the right way it starts working fine which means a obvious wiring issue in the harness i guess
I’m having the same issue as you, I replaced the sensor, and it’s still not working and check engine light is still on because of this issue. I’m going to drive it 10 miles to see if it kicks in.
Thank you for your reply. However. When I search for the VSS, I only see transmission revolution Speed sensor in Toyota parts.com. Part # 89413-73010. Mine is 2011 and your part link is not working now. Do you think you can help me find the correct part with the number please ? My abs light is off, just check engine light with the code saying vehicle speed sensor (vss)
@@leesmith9872 It should be in the description or title of the video. You shouldn't have to watch half a video to find out if it's the same engine you're looking for.
@@Skinnflute Wow good for you, like I said it should be in the title of the video. What's the point in watching a video about a 4 cylinder when you're looking for the 6?
I'm replacing mine currently, but it's not quite going in. It looks like, at least to me, that the notch that sticks out on the side of the shaft is slightly in the wrong place. I've spent, literally, several hours trying to get it in with no luck. Have you ever heard of something similar?
So i have a 2007 Camry 6cyl. Got the same code, bought the part on amazon for $13 got it. I took off the air filter and box. So when l get to where the sensor should be on my car, there is nothing. It looks like a cap where the sensor should be. Theres no plugs 🔌 no electrical wires anywhere leading to it. I spent 7 hours looking for that damn sensor. I followed every single electrical wire to see where it lead and still no sensor. Im stumped and l really need help. I went to the Toyota dealer, PepBoys, Auto zone, Orielly, even forums on the internet wondering if anyone else has had the same problem. My guess is with my luck l probably have a special sport model or some crap that doesnt have a speed sensor?!? The dealer told me it would probably need a “re-flash” of the computer to reset. Auto zone and PepBoys all told me the same thing, that the sensor should be located on the right side of the transmission near the output shaft. I told them l checked and there’s nothing! Please help!! Thank You!!
I bought the $13 1 on Amazon and didn't fix it so I bought the $200 At autozone and it still didn't fix the problem what could it be code code P0 500 still hard delay shift to 2nd gear And speedometer is still not working I didn't drive it far but check engine light came back on after 2 min and as soon as I started going still have delay shift to 2nd gear and the plug itself is reading correct voltage.
@@df4480 yeah i changed the two sensors but it still wouldn't go in reverse. Had to change the transmission. when you go to Autozone and they pull the code they will give you a paper what might be causing it and it showed two different sensors. I changed both sensors. One was a sensor attached to the transmission and the other was like a valve with small hoses on it at the top against the firewall below the windshield. The transmission sensor was a little hard getting on and off but the other one on top was super easy. I would start with that one first. Good luck. We don't have the car anymore.
Finally a good video on how to do this. Thank you!!!
Great job, I am replacing mine just now. I paid 13 bucks just like you.
Let us know how it goes!

I got the same code on my 2011 Toyota Camry le 2.5, is it the same procedure on same location?
Should be in the same area and yes same sensor different part

Got a Yaris, speedometer at stuck 0mph, odometer not working, but no fault code, no check engine light.... worth changing the speed sensor?
Nah if you're not getting a code it's not the sensor just change instrument cluster
It's usually helpful to say which engine you're working on
5s-fe toyota 2.2L
He said 4cyl

The only issue you should have is from the gasket, that’s why I added engine oil to it. Just to make it more slippery
Thank you

You may have your speed sensor on the tires, you probably have 2. Is your abs light on?
This split right now

Is this the same code as P1705?
yes
i have a 2005 camry with a 2.4L IS THE SENSOR IN THE SAME LOCATION?
no
My car won't drive or reverse and the obd2 scanner found P0500 code to be the reason.
Can p0500 alter a car from changing gear in acceleration ?
I hv replaced this speed sensor but the code p0500 still appeared suring scanning.... Any idea to go about?
Try driving the vehicle, maybe the computer needs time to refresh and update
did you ever find the issue?
The pin doesn’t want to go back???
will a bad sensor keep the car from going into reverse. That's the only code it has P0500. Car won't go in reverse.
Did you fix it.. I have the same code.
