When my Toyota Camry 1997 4-cylinder 2.2L speedometer stopped working instantly as I was just driving along the highway 8 days ago then also its RPM shot up to high revs. So it's driveable (no speedometer) but the revs just go up as though its gearing down when it doesn't need to, but not awfully bad, then revs back down. Do you think this is just because its computer isn't getting the speed feedback, or more likely that a transmission wear problem has developed ?

Hello Sir Peter. I have a problem with my Toyota Camry SE V6. Speedometer is not working but others are gauges are working. Just a quick question. Do I need to remove all that part under the car or i can easily remove just the sensor.
If your speed sensor broke, you can get a small camera from eBay or Lowe's, 'General' video inspection camera or digital fiber optic meter (same thing) and stick down there and retrieve it. It has a hook attachment on it and a magnet can be attached to the hook.
So can you change the speed sensor without taking the pan off? I got lazy didn't change my fluid for 60k miles was having issues with the trans shifting and actually 1x my throttle speed went down. So I changed the fluid 2x and put in a final fill up ended up putting 8.5 quarts in the Trans it shifted fine for 3 weeks and 2 days ago it Was stuck in 1st gear for almost 1/3 of a mile and I drove it another 2.5 miles only shifted into 3rd gear 1 time on that Lil trip. Then I drove it home seemed to work OK. Then yesterday I drove the car for a 6 mile trip shifted fine! I have a 95 camry with about 147k miles on it.

The cause is the computer doesn't have the speed to change gear to the right speed especially in automatic gear, for manual gear it didn't matter.

Hello. I think that your automatic transmission bearings are in bad shape. You need a new gearbox.
