Nice video! I got an ABS code 35 on my 95 Avalon, which means a right front ABS speed sensor. I guess I'll take off the wheel and see what it looks like. I can get a replacement for $18 on Amazon. Will let you know how it goes. (For those who don't know, you can read the code by jumping pins E1 to Tc in the diagnostic box that sits just in front of the passenger side firewall--very easy to access with hood up. After you jumper, start the engine. The ABS light will blink the code. In my case it was 3 flashes, short pause 5 flashes, then a long pause, and it repeats.) This works on all cars up to 1996, and many after that. It works on my 2002 Honda Accord.
Ive got a broken rear abs sensor on a 1998 camry. Im going to have a go myself. The old sensors do have a habit of breaking when trying to remove them. Fingers crossed mine will come out.
I had an ABS sensor fail on a Nissan Maxima. A replacement was about $130. I cracked open the housing of the sensor which was filled with potting material and found that the wire connecting the coil was disconnected. The wire was so contaminated that it wouldn't even solder back onto the coil. I took some communications wire and reproduced the harness, soldered the new wires on the sensor coil and refilled the housing with JB Weld to replace the potting material. Put it back on and it's as good as new.
hello, 2015 and your video is still pulling hits and questions being asked. great video and info.! my question is to pull out the old rusted sensor, it is a matter of just rotating back and forth and pulling on it or is it hammer and chisel? i broke my 10mm bolt and now have to drill it out and tap it. my quandary is how much work is to get out the rusted piece, guess its fear of the unknown
I tried a few ABS scan tools myself before doing this. None worked. So I just pulled the codes out the raw way: Try jumpering the TC to E1 slots (first pull out the jumper from the lower right corner, then put a wire from TC to E1). Then turn the ignition key to ON. The ABS lights should then flash the codes (for ex: flash 3 times, pause then flash 4 times = code 34, meaning one of the rear ABS sensors is bad). Google for the codes when you have them if they are different than mine.
my abs light is always on,my brake petal goes down low before brakes kick in i also replaced my abs module problem is still happening.. took it to a mechanic and their computers cant see the abs system to tell me whats wrong do you have any ideas what i should do about this thanks

To be honest I can't remember exactly, but i spent hours searching the web for other videos/tutorials/documentation before I started disassembling my sensors and I picked the codes up in different sources, probably some repair PDF manuals and forums around the web. The car operator manual has no such codes or details unfortunately.
The reason I am here is I have an issue with my 99 camry and it seems that the ABS cycles on very low speed driving such as parking, etc. There seems to be no issue with an ABS malfunction since there is no warning light. On the contrary...the ABS is trying to do what it is designed to do. NOW....I worked for GM for a number of years and there was an issue with ABS cycling on low speeds. The first time I experienced it, I almost went through the shop door because the ABS is pulsing and not allowing you to stop. The fix was to remove the sensor (which looking at the video it is the identical set up) and believe it or not, the small amount of rust/corrosion build up causes the sensor to receive a false signal that the wheel speed =0. Look at 3:16 and you will see a good example. Sand the area where the sensor is bolted to being careful not to get any debris in the sensor hole of course, then spray it with corrosion proof paint or just regular spray paint until it is dry, reattach the sensor, reassemble and good luck to you. I am going to try it today if the weather holds out.

Well I had to submit my VIN so they could Check with Engineers Here’s is there Response :We have consult our engineer, they said the car is pretty special, So MD802 all system can’t work on 1996 Lexus ES300,Glad I didn’t waste my Money. Anyway Can you tell me if your Jumper of the Pins on the Camry will work on my ES300 to get codes ? Thank You Frank
@@24inchdubz Not sure why but most You tube mechanics don't show how to do the hard stuff. It's like they want you to think it is as easy as ''remove bolt. Pull sensor out.' At least he mentioned it was difficult. I'm thinking drill and chisel ..plenty of PB too. I believe it's plastic inside(mostly) and a thin metal shell. I know this is 4 year old question but it may help other or at least let them know if in rust belt, not a quick and easy removal.
Yeah the scan tools are pretty confusing and some don't even yield any codes. The TC-E1 jumpering gave me the exact problem codes immediately. You may have more than just ABS problems, maybe TRAC and also relays that are disabled when ABS/TRAC doesn't work... each vehicle might be different.
I was driving about 35mph with my foot on the gas. All of the sudden my car put itself into a "ABS" brake mode with the stuttering feeling you get when stopping in rain or snow. Then the "Trac Off" light came on and the stuttering stopped and everything seemed to return to normal other than not being able to turn traction control on. I did not slam on the brakes to test the ABS, though. Anyone think this could be it? My mechanic is not even sure he will get a code on the OBD 2. Thank you. Also, are these sensors on all four wheels of the car and will each one have to be tested individually?

If you got all the codes those should tell you exactly what's wrong. My solution works if the wiring is bad but the sensor is good. I'm not a mechanic so sorry if I don't have more advice.

you explained the basics but should show exactly how to take out even when it's damage like the problem u had. show where wire runs to as well

Will an ABS sensor affect the transmission not taken drive or is it only the one down in the transmission

My Speed sensor shows 1.001K Ohms. Is this going to be out of the range of acceptable? 2006 Camry LE
