Vol. 2 was just announced 🙌🏻 I think I'll pick up this book, I'm aware the material might not be the strongest but I've always loved the character, and would love to read his origins.
Been enjoying the smaller budget silver age range.. the Mighty Marvel Masterworks paperbacks, Marvel digest book of the month club as I call it. The first volume collected Hulk #1-6.. yeah, isnt it weird, strange and constantly evolving .. much like Thor's beginnings, equally weird and evolving. A second volume of Mighty Marvel Masterworks Hulk soon, begins the Tales to Astonish stories which I'm looking forward to. When I was knee high to a Micronaught, growing up, I read Marvel UK Hulk Weekly and the odd Rampage Magazine containing black n white reprints.. not sure what the stories were, I remember images and characters, some Kirby and lots of Buscema art .. really enjoying what I've read so far, its like discovering Hulk for the first time all over again.
Yes it looks to be universal, it's on every other 2 page spread from 682 to 694, including the letters page. This sucks, Marvel's QC has been pretty terrible lately. I now have misprinted Hulk, terrible misprints in classic Silver Surfer omni, misprint in vol 2 of PAD Hulk omni, and my copy of the new Excalibur vol 2 omni is miscut badly in last 25 or so pages with excess glue sticking pages together. As far as I can tell, Marvel is doing nothing for those who have these misprints.
@@Puddin_Tame This one is not a big deal, just one page, the cover of issue 375 in the omni (the one with Super Skrull) has wrong colors, missing colors and graphics. Its a very weird error, thread on reddit about it.
Boomerang stayed around for a long while..with a much more familiar costume..usually in the pages of Spider-Man. Never a A list villain,but he was fun.
Just ordered it! Love your videos man ! I usually have em on in the background while I work on my very own comics actually 😄👍🏾! I really hope they reprint Iron Man the most !
...i had to spend a lot for Iron Man on Ebay vol 1 and 2. Everyone keeps saying their not going to reprint it anytime soon and dont know why. Iron Man started the whole Marvel movie franchise. I hope they reconsider in reprinting it again

Im glad i preordered this! The big sell of this book is that is has a lot of issues of Tales of Astonish!!! The cover art for those issues are an amazing work of art!
8:31 When it came to this hulk and Banner, it gave me more the Nutty Professor with Hulk being more a buff Buddy Love than the either sympathetic Frankenstein Creation or the primitive savagery of Hyde(That Jekyll willingly became to be free from the strictness of Victorian society)
It made for a strange start for the character in those early issues, but I think it's great how eventually Peter David would take the early Hulk character from that point and basically use him as the inspiration for the personality of Joe Fixit
I read the original 6 issues of this and will probably read the Tales to Astonish stuff later on. I think they're better written than, say, Golden Age Batman, though that's not really saying much, but structurally they do have a lot of the same problems, with horrible pacing and rushed and bullshit endings. To be fair, they did explain the changes, from Hulk only coming out at night, to a missile hitting hulk which then allowed Rick Jones to control him, and then Bruce Banner built the machine to where he could change between the Hulk and Banner whenever he wanted and still retain the Bruce Banner persona while in the Hulk body. It had some interesting things, such as when the Hulk's psychological traits were intruding upon Banner when he is the Hulk. Execution is still not the greatest, and yeah, you're right, these comics still had a lot of problems. It wasn't as campy or silly as I was expecting of a Silver Age comic (I haven't read any other Silver Age material other than Batman Brave and the Bold, which were mostly just fights and some dumb plots, but Neil Adams art was good). Dialogue was just as corny as that of the golden age comics I've read. I read the Hulk epic collection volume 6 previously, which had some comics from 1972 to 1974. Those had their own sets of problems but in general were still better written than these, though neither matches up with stuff like Peter David, or the more recently released Immortal Hulk. Still, I do love the Hulk so it's cool to see how he got started.
Yeah it was a pretty rough start for Hulk, but if you've read through the original six issues and found them in any way interesting/enjoyable then I'd say it's worth continuing through the Tales to Astonish issues and beyond to see the series improve and how Hulk was developed further
@@TheComicBookTrove Paper quality and thickness have decreased significantly in the last couple years - the books coming out of Imak Offset in Turkey being particularly bad in my opinion. The new printing of Hickman's FF volume 1 has some of the worst page bleed through I have ever seen in an omni. Something needs to change.
Would you still recommend this book, even with the coloring issues? or should I wait for a reprint? I love Silver Age books but haven’t read any Hulk. Thank you for doing these silver age book reviews.
The colouring error is obviously not great, but it only affects about half of one particular issue (Tales to Astonish #100), and that doesn't personally bother me enough to say it's not worth having the book. I'm sure others probably feel differently, but I'd still recommend it as it is

I know there are some issues as pointed out by other comments but I wondered if the colouring in general was supposed to be based on the original colouring? It looks quite straightforward colour-wise as opposed to some modern recolours of classic comics that I’ve seen.
So in general with Marvel omnis the idea is that they're like a 'cleaned up' version of what the original colours were intended to look like, and that's the case with this one. I don't think there are many that are specifically recoloured. Thor by Walter Simonson is one that is, but I can't really think of any others off the top of my head right now... But anyway yeah this is meant to be original colours, with the issue of half a dozen pages in here being misprinted colours aside

There are weird colors on 8 pages, from page 682, for example Hulk is yellow.

Yes, cyan an magenta plates are swopped. Stupid mistake, book should be recalled. The original printing didn’t have this problem

Marvel omnies get slimer every time, its good because more books fit on your shelf, but then the price is a little too much.
Yeah they're definitely a lot thinner than they used to be, it's easily noticeable when you get an older one next to a new one

I imagine they'll get to it eventually, but it'd take a few volumes to collect all of his work and there's nothing announced at the moment

Volume 2 was recently announced to be releasing at the end of the year, it'll collect issues 103-134 and Annual 1
is there any bleed thru?
There is a little on some pages, it's not that noticeable (to me anyway) unless really looking for it
