@@shengcer I’ve never been the biggest FF fan in terms of their stories personally but one thing I give the series credit for is the cosmological-themed artwork always manages to go toe to toe with the likes of Dr. Strange for the most creative and dynamic panels that it still holds my interest.
Allfather Byrne is Love, Allfather Byrne is Life. On that cover, John Byrne drew Jack Kirby between Silver Surfer and Stan Lee. Marvel had it removed immediately.
Yeah but Galactus had Firelord as a Herald before Nova, so I agree Nova being Galactus wasn't really necessary tbh. The panel of Gladiator punching the Thing through like 8 cars was epic.
I love the Fantastic Four so much. It’s one of my favorite teams in Comic Book history ever, next to Justice League, X-Men and The Avengers. I really hope that we get to play a fantastic (Pun intended 😂) next gen open world FF Video Game in the future. Imagine Insomniac Games developing it 🤯
This is one of several instances where I've bought something solely for the artist, I've never liked the FF but John Byrne is a tremendous artist that I have many of his comics.
I disagree with your statement that Byrne followed Claremont's take on writing female characters. If anything, I think CC followed JB's lead. I don't think the female X-Men took center stage until JB was on the book. And once J0 left X-Men, the stories took a dip in quality. Just look how badly written Sue Storm was in the X-Men annual by CC. But I digress. This is my favorite FF run and thank you for pointing out how JB changed the narrative for Sue and Dr. Doom. Doom hadn't been written well since Kirby left FF. JB restored his regal nature which was sorely missed. And the Galactus story was amazing.
Byrne is light years ahead of the hack writers that Marvel has now. He brought magic to F4, X Men, She Hulk. It’s sad to see those great characters getting destroyed by Vida Ayala and Dan Slot.
Johnny's always been looking for love 😂 My first Marvel story I read was The Secret Wars and back then I didn't know any of the characters but the first character that I instantly connected with and left a lasting impression on me was Johnny and his affection to the alien Doctor Lady Zsaji and the sad outcome of that relationship. I remember I was so sad about it.
How long might I have to wait to read these in Omnibus collections if I wait for chronologically printed volumes without any skips? Would this volume start in vol. 5, or 6 of an FF volume (picking up after vol. 4)?
In theory, this would be partially collected in a volume 7. That's assuming they make it that far considering how long it took to put out volume 4. But anything's possible. You might be waiting a while, however.
New to collecting. So far I picked up the *1984* & *2015* runs of *Secret Wars* Just ordered *Fantastic Four omnibus Vol 1* & *Book Of Doom* Had intended to grab the *Batman Knightfall trilogy* but appears they're hard to get hold of. Any tips on where to go next with what to collect?
Do you know why John changed the colors of the Fantastic Four's costumes? His mother knitted him a Fantastic Four sweater using black and white yarn !!!!!!!!
@5:22…Not really related to the Omni, but it just occurred to me…What If Marc Wolfman stayed at Marvel? Would we have gotten a kid team with Cyborg, Raven, Starfire, and…Nova?
17:22 is nobody going to notice the amazing fantasy 15 reference on the 9th panel on pages 730 and 731 is a good reference to spider man 1st appearance
a should be evergreen omni, Byrne begins the modernization of FF where a woman can be the power and not just the house. You touched on it but a good many of John Byrne's atories in his 2 omnis have long lasting consequences.
I couldn't decide which cover to get, so I got MiracleMan and X-men. and am going to wait a week to decide [hoping next week isn't another avalanche of omni's like the past two have been]. If any internet strangers have some slightly overly detailed arguments to put in the replies for one or the other, I'm open to listening, cause I have no idea which to go with. 😅 [I like the marvel celebration of the original, but I like the classic homeliness of the DM one, that's my entire opinions on each so far]
@@josephpetersen1728 Ahhh, I feel that, I do like the switch between volumes. My hesitation with DM for Vol 2 is having good ol She-Hulk on the front. 😁 But if you use Vol 1's standard cover, you DO get a her AND a bunch of other guest stars in some shape or form, so i guess it evens out, really. ☺
omnis are hot and heavy until like Jan...probably depends on what's already in your collection but there are some heavy hitters in the pipe. I like DM for vol 1 because i've seen the std cover so much. i went with the she hulk cover on the other.
@@belowzeros I feel that, I’ve already had to pass by Rachel’s Doom Patrol and Black Panther Early Years omni’s, hoping sometime later the good books will die down... 😅 though by the sounds of it, this is only the beginning 👀💦oh boy... Still though, I might be leaning towards original for each, just because I didn’t see them that much. But the design of the first volumes dm cover is still so nice, it’s such a toss up. 😅
Haven't bought a comic in 30 years, read for free for online nostalgia, didn't know it at the time, but this book and his X-men run was unmatched. Incredible art, detail, sensible dialogue, After this 260 FF, Dr. Doom, Galactus, Terrax, was just end of an era, never to return. This book is really nice, great paper, great color. Like watching a old time favorite cartoon from VHS forever to seeing it on 4K.
I'm holding out on this one. Hope Marvel just continues the FF line with 5, 6, 7 etc. like with UXM. Then I'm sure we will get restored art and the missing issues.
Gotta give Marvel some credit for keeping the same price.
👏👏👏
Yea good point
Every collector needs this in their collection, this is must own material. If you are on the fence, just get it, you will not be disappointed.
What makes it so good though?
@@saki3963 this is what you call the character defining run for FF. It is up there like uncanny X-men to X-men, or Walter Simonson’s run to Thor.
Could I start with the characters here? I don’t really read much comics but I’m eager to see what’s up with FF
@@soridosuneku Yes, this is possibly the best place to start reading the FF!

Yes !! Same ! Vol 2 pls !!

So glad to get this again. Such fond memories of reading the FF during those early Byrne years. Big G laying the smack down on the Sphinx :)
I that issue 5 times minimum.
Love John Byrne artwork 😍😍😍
Ordered mine today! I’m glad to hear that Byrne gets Doom right. And I totally agree that Waid got him right too! Man… Doom was TWISTED in Waid’s run
love Doom myself too, would have got the doomnibus but the double dip is too strong since I have most of the FF books
@@belowzeros same here, I LOVE books of Doom but it wasn’t enough to purchase for me personally
One of those RARE occasions where the spine change is an upgrade!

I’ve been reading it for 35 years. There is no better run, IMHO. I have multiple copies of the run in mint condition… 1 full long box.
I love DeFalco's run too and don't care about the book window either lol.
We need that Omni next.

I think it is well worth it to read past issue 260. I really enjoyed the new carachter joining the team!
Best FF run with Lee/Kirby's
This is one of several instances where I've bought something solely for the artist, I've never liked the FF but John Byrne is a tremendous artist that I have many of his comics.
11:20 pretty sure that Jack Kirby story was taken directly from Kirby's storyboards for an episode of the 70s FF cartoon
Exactly. I don’t think he was too happy about it either.
I’ve been looking to jump into Fantastic Four, so this might be how I do it. Thanks for a great video, Omar!
