I returned to comics during this time and I absolutely adored Johns (aka Bjorn Heyn 😉)work on the FF. His run was 1 of the must-buys for me at the time. I lov d what he did with Sue & that he brought in She Hulk!!

He definitely brought some great ideas to this series, with utilising She-Hulk so well being right up there with the best of them!

The best run in comics history...love it.I have these omnibus plus I am double dipping and getting the Marvel Masterworks as well. Its just so good...I really don't think anything else matches it.In my opinion it tops all the other big runs of the 80s..and that's saying alot because we have Sterns work on Spider-Man and Avengers,Simonson and his Thor,Miller's Daredevil. This resides on the throne over all of them.

There really were so many excellent runs at Marvel in the 80s!

His work in the 70s was relevatory. I jumped on the bandwagon with his Iron Fist run. It seemed he got better and better with every project. He did a particularly good run on Marvel Team-up. I too thought his work on FF was inferior to the X-Men, but his plotting got better and better till it acheived parity.
Sinott was great, but his dedication to the Marvel comics was geared to consistency rather than innovation.
He also made Ben Grimm look the best he ever was...right up with Kirby.

George Perez really hit his stride on the FF.

Yeah really from the late 70s onwards through to the early 90s Byrne was on top form creatively with pretty much everything he did. I'm agree he definitely drew the Thing particularly well, not sure I mentioned that in the review specifically, but definitely worth saying!

I do agree that Byrne's work on FF is some of the best for the entire run of the series. Quality stuff for sure, both art and writing. Some people say Hickman's run is better, but I personally prefer Byrne's run myself. It's a subjective thing after all, so everyone is entitled to their favorite. On the subject of no one dying in comics but Uncle Ben and Bruce Wayne's parents, we can add the original Captain Mar-Vell to that list too. Always hoped they'd bring him back, but he remains dead to this day.

Of course, the Death of Captain Marvel stands the test of time as one of the most beautifully poignant stories in comics

I’m a John Bryne She Hulk fan. Can I just start with volume 2 and not be completely lost?

Yeah I'd say so, issues always tend to do a recap of previous events anyway. The main thing you'd miss is the big fight with Galactus in volume 1 as the consequences of that happen in volume 2 but all you really need to know is Reed chose to let Galactus live and it'll make sense
