Peter David's Incredible Hulk run is the reason why I love comic books and Marvel. His run is my favorite comic run of all time. This particular section of the run is definitely is not as solid as the sections collected in the previous volumes, but it is still very good. I could go on and on about this run. Amazing! "No, Spider-Man is amazing. I'm Incredible."
Great Review! I soon hope to get this omnibus as I have the previous 3 Peter David Hulk Omnibuses! I was wondering if you think that Marvel will collect the Maestro mini series trilogy and David's brief return to Hulk as well as his Hulk the End one shot? I def want to have all of Peter David's complete Hulk work! I also can't wait for his Spiderman 2099 omnibus as well. I hope Marvel will also make an omnibus of his Genis Vell Captain Marvel series!
I think there's a good chance there'll be a companion type omnibus at some point collecting a lot of the other Hulk work he's done, there's certainly been a good recent trend of Peter David runs getting the omnibus treatment so hopefully there's more to come!
Bro is this a complete omnibus? Is there anything else to read before this to get into the story and to read anything after finishing this omnibus to get the story completed?
This is the end of Peter David's Hulk run so you don't need to read anything else after this as the story finishes in this volume, but I'd say to read the first three volumes before this one
I read through vols. 2-4 in the last 2weeks. I'm kind of mixed on my thoughts. Overall, felt is was a good run, but there were some moments that felt drawn out or superfluous issues. I will say those last few issues (465-467) were very nihilistic in tone. Betty getting sick so quickly out of nowhere. Rick's interview at the end, detailing how Thunderbolt died, and before him Janis. Rick and Marlo separating, and Bruce basically on his way to become Maestro. Like there's no hope at all and makes Future Imperfect less about a future that could be and, more a destined future regardless of what you do to try and change it. Plus those final 2 pages with Thunderbolt and Betty, which just takes away from her death. The ending made me felt ambivalent to the story as a whole.
The ending is definitely very downbeat and weirdly abrupt, I can understand why you wouldn't like it, but it's a shame it ruined your enjoyment of the rest of the run before that point
@@TheComicBookTrove . I wouldn't say ruined the enjoyment. But it did give me the impression with the nihilistic ending. David expresses the "nothing really matters" concept through those last 3 issues. Which makes me think, well if the writer doesn't think this matters. Am I supposed to? The ending just basically comes out and says Maestro is inevitable. No one has a happy ending. Think that's why I enjoyed the ride more than the destination. The ending expresses the idea that the Hulk existing ruins everyone's lives. It's a very dour state the world is left it. It would have been nice to see some glimmer of hope.
I agree that it would've been nice to end on a more positive/hopeful note. Think I said this in the review but by this point you've spent a lot of time following Bruce, Betty, Rick and Marlo if you've read the whole run and it definitely would've been cool to see them all left off in a nicer situation without the super sudden tragic drama
First 3 omnibus were amazing. Something went wrong with this 4th omnibus though. Maybe 1/3 through the book…..just went sideways and a hall of fame run ended TERRIBLE.
Yeah that's thanks to Onslaught and Heroes Reborn interfering with the run and Peter David having to try and write around it which was a pretty much near impossible task to continue telling his own story with those restrictions, but even so I think he managed to do the best he could
@@TheComicBookTrove I’m not familiar with those events. But I did sense it was mired in events and crossovers and killed its momentum. Actually reminds me a bit of Claremont’s run. I guess it was mid 1980s and between crossovers with other xbooks. Secret wars. Secret wars 2. Etc etc. This book for so long that was so…..I can’t think of the work I want to use, but it was so on point. Everything made sense and fit. Incredible long form storytelling by Claremont……. And poof it was gone for maybe a 12-15 issues. Characters just….disappeared. You would finish issue X and go to the next issue and the status quo would be completely different. Characters with long arcs, would suddenly be somewhere else. CC still kind of kept it together, but for a guy who wrote about 250 issues of X-men over 16-17 years……THAT little group of 15 issues or so was the only part of the run that wasn’t completely and totally on point. Im guessing this is similar to what David was dealing with.
Yeah it's a similar thing really, unfortunately there's plenty of examples of series that had jarring interruptions to ongoing stories like that where an editorially mandated event cuts in
Waiting for my copy to arrive. I agree that it's one of the best Marvel runs ... in fact I'd say legendary.
Got to thank you for these in depth reviews. It’s the best way of seeing what you get for the hearty prices. Got Hulk 1 and 2…
Glad you like them!
Looks good! Cant wait to read it.

I totally get why it's your favourite run, it's right up there for me too, probably only Claremont's X-Men would beat it to top spot!

@@TheComicBookTrove Just would have been nice to see any one of the characters have a happy ending. It's that hope I look for in dire situations.

@@TheComicBookTrove Sucks but I guess it’s the nature of the business.
Thanks for your time
Any time!
Video quality is bad.
Hmm yeah looks like the processing is going really slowly, higher resolutions should be ready soon
@@TheComicBookTrove ok, thanks for the wonderful reviews.🍻
