Not true. Recently there was a controversy about a documentary being made about feminism, and they recorded this group during a protest without their consent, the protesters tried to take it down and the film makers didn't agreed to it because when you're in a public place, everyone is entitled to your image. The movie is "la riposte féministe" and the group against that made an open letter about it asking for its cancellation

I married a man who parent’s immigrated from the Soviet Union. His first language is English. But we always agreed teaching our kids Russian is necessary. Love you guys realizing you want to include it in your life more to remind your kids

It is not illegal to bully, to lie or to speak rudely to others, but that doesn't mean that we should behave like that. As South Africans, my parents spoke Afrikaans to each other when they didn’t want us kids to understand what they were saying, we still picked the language even though they didn’t speak it directly to us, please keep speaking the language with Gary too and the boys will catch it ❤

I agree with Gary 100% … if you’re rich enough to drive them fancy high priced cars you should also have a modest standby for on the days you want to drive and not have a camera stuck in your face. My partner is American but his family is from Eastern Europe and I love listening to him speak in their native language. I’m learning and it’s hard but it’s meaningful to be able to speak with my in-laws and our children will be fluent as well.

As someone who was born in Russia, grew up there for the first 10 years of my life, only spoke Russian, then got adopted and moved to the US and was forbade by my adoptive parents to speak Russian in the house, I’m trying to re-learn the language and also really crave that knowledge as I do believe it’ll make me feel so much closer to my core identity, and who I am. And once I do have children, I also want them to speak Russian and be a part of that culture and also have that identity piece to who they are as well. Always love the fluidity of your guys’ relationship and try to take certain aspects of it that I really love, and try to also implement them in my marriage. Not always easy, but has pushed my husband and I to have more meaningful and fulfilling conversations about finances, business, family, etc.
I do think forbidding you speaking Russian was wrong.
But I also think you're romantisizing Russia since you're very far and you're exposed to the negative sides of the US while not realizing the ones in Russia.
If you're a polite, friendly person, who would never be rude to strangers, who's not racist, homophobic or sexist, then your "true core identity" is probbaly not Russian.
There are obviously "nice" Russians too, but they are the minority. And usually those are the ones who were exposed to the Western culture.
Today's reality of Russian people (especially outside of Moscow and st. Petersburg) is: being rude and cold to strangers, believing that violence against children is a good way of parenting, believing that being violent to women is correct (it is justified on the *law level*, like literally nothing will happen if you beat your wife), believing that gay people need to be "fixed", believing that it's totally okay to only rent your apartment to "while/slavic people" and many many more. I was raised in this society untill I became an adult. I was like them. I believed everything Western was evil and this is how life should be.
Then I went to study abroad (Spain) and realized how wrong our society was and I'm still working on errasing my horrible "behavioral patterns".
I learn to realize that me and other women are not "less intelligent" than men like I have been told to all my life, I learn the difference between "being honest" and "being rude", as there is almost no difference for them, I learn that people around me don't care about my looks anymore and everyone is minding their business, unlike there, where everything you do is being criticized either out of jealousy or simply for enterntaiment.
If you're a single woman over 35 or/and with extra weight, you will hear that you must change that asap from everyone: doctors, family, friends, collegues from work etc.
I still often come off as too harsh or rude to people, simply because I don't know any better, but I'm trying not to be like that anymore.
If I could shange my "core identity" to the one of Spanish people, for instance, I'd be a lot happier. No doubt in that.
But of course it's not what you will want to believe, because, like I said, for sure you're upset about the bad parts of the American society and your mind wants to identify with something "better". I'ts fine. But it's your fantasy.
I've been to the US miltiple times, also in the South, and no, their problems are peanuts comparing to the ones in Russia.

I study Russian at uni in the Netherlands on the side of my law degree and hopefully fulltime after I've secured the more stable law degree- I admit I follow you partly because I'm attracted to a lot of remotely Russian things 😅
