Thank you all so much for helping to create this video by commenting on my Instagram post with all your questions! We tried to cover everything and in the most sincere and honest way.
Watching this video reminded me how lucky I am! As much as I love the new love stage (the first months of a relationship) NOTHING compares to the deep love and devotion I feel now, after almost 6 years of marriage, 2 kids and endless ups and downs together.

I think the most precious thing (which also should be the norm) is how Gary absolutely genuinely believes that, in his words, you are “a genius”. You clearly inspire him and amaze him, and i think it’s so beautiful and i wish more men were willing to look at women like that and actually see us as complex human beings that we are, not just as future mothers of their children. He’s your biggest fan.

It's funny, from the outside I can totally see why people would think you're rich man/trophy wife but he's so chill and you're so intelligent, it's clear within about 5 minutes you are total equals.
I still think that’s a big part of it: the guy has money so why not have a younger, pretty girl and she’s very pretty and had already dated rich men. They both probably had a few people with these characteristics to choose from, so it probably wasn’t just that, though.

My mom and my dad’s age difference is 23 years. My mom is currently 48 and my dad is 71. The big problem with this is when you have children. I’m 16 years old and I’m aware that I won’t spend as much time with my dad as I would want to, I see him getting older, and sometimes I wish my dad would be younger, so I will have more time with him.
Anyway, couples with age difference just prove that true love does exist, no matter your age.

To all of you saying “he has money”: a regular person with job in the office, came to visit me in Europe 4 times within 6 months, after knowing me just for 2 weeks. And finally he quit his job and moved from US to Europe, without having anything here, so we could be together. Stop saying “it is about having money”. It is about finding the right person and willing it to work between you no matter what.

I love how Gary understands that women want to marry a man who has achieved something and are able to provide and car for their family. I feel like sometimes it's trivialized and people call women gold diggers or marrying just for money. That is a straw man fallacy. Gary is secure with himself because he's been able to achieve great things in his own and they both compliment each other because they both have ambition to do their own thing. I love how they support, understand, and respect each other.

It's funny though how the only kind of "acheiving something" women seem to value involves Power or Money. This makes sense since these things make it possible for a Woman to better raise her kids but call it what it is. The same guy could run a non-profit that helps homeless people and live in a simple house he built himself and he would probably not shine as bright as the hedge-fund manager with tons of $$$. Both genders are shallow but when a Man says he only dates Young/Attractive Women girls his age WILL call him Shallow. If you Marry a Man for the Money and Security he provides you are engaging in Socially Accepted Prostitution.
TheMuph not really, even couple have they dynamics, I don’t blame man if they fall in love with a young woman. But women need more a stable person, they don’t need to marry a man who isn’t stable, and some women will love a a man like you described on your comment . In this case, Valeria is working as hard as him and so they get alone because they have a same work ethic. I think if you are a working hard person it’s good to get married with someone like you.

The writer compares Finland (with pregnancy leave, universal child care and a secure social system) and she linked marriage or the importance of it to American women due to the fact that you do need to have a social system to rely on during that period.

I was ready to have kids, ready to get married etc etc. Then it didn't work out with the person I was with and now, at the age of 26 I am so messed up. I’m 3 minutes in but has to stop and comment. My husband and I are pretty similar to you and Gary. He’s 11 years older than me, we don’t have a lot of things in common besides being introverts and liking rock music, but the way I felt with him since the beginning was the exact same as you. I felt secure, safe, protected and the support he gives me is out of this world. I met him when I was 22 and got married when I was 24 to 25. Although it seems like it’s a long time, I lived in Brazil and we had most part of our relationship being long distance. Now I’m in sunny Florida married to him!

You guys, this was seriously such a good video! All your advice was solid and I really appreciate the honesty and openness that you both demonstrated in filming this for us. This is advice that lots of people need to hear - caring for your marriage is becoming a lost art and it's so important that the message gets out there that a good marriage takes time and commitment, that you have to nurture it like a tender plant and really work as a team through all life's circumstances, not just expect things to be all cruisey and great because you're in love and then bail as soon as you start feeling flat.
