Venice's take of Lisbon was a critical error. It forced them to defend the Swedish front, a very strong Industrial civ, and the Mongolian front, a civ that had literally already fought them to a standstill. If they had patiently tried to build up strength on the Mongolian front and maintained a land-only offensive on Mongolia, their navy would easily be able to defend them from any amphibious assaults as well as standard naval ones.
So many highlights: When swedish expansionism met its rival in Austria Scary Venice How scary Venice got cocky and attacked Sweden and was defeated Just to become very scary again Just to be utterly destroyed by Sudan coming out of nowhere The austrian blietzkireg that finally took down Sweden The battle for Wellington and the battle for Beshbalik Beautiful episode
"You ascended to the throne of Austria during a time of great instability, but the empty coffers and diminished military did *LITTLE* to dissuade your ambitions."
It´s incredible how you make everytime a completely different scenario. This was great, with the Rise and Fall of different nations (Sweden, Mongols), Venice´s suprise and the whole geographical world in general it was amazing to watch. Keep up the good work (At least until germany wins ^^)
Austria getting the great wall tipped the balance in favour of Austria in the Austrian-Swedish war. Sweden was left to take the south and needed to attack Venice but was unable to. The mongols looked promising to begin with. I knew they would place second or first very early on in the game. Austria had the most options in the game, well played. Next time Venice... Next time...
You can literally see when Venice just decided to not win lmao, losing most of their navy to the war with Sweden and then getting rushed by Austria and never using their spare great merchant for anything just sealed the deal, plus Venice plays these small maps basically with their hands tied since it is hard to use their double trade routes effectively when the world is constantly at war and no spare city-states.
Very interesting game. At first I thought Venice would snowball hard seeing how they got the centre almost immediately. Then I was sure Sweden was gonna win, seeing how they conquered much of the west in a short timespan and where pressing on centre. Then I thought the Mongols might do it, as they gained dominance in the east...and then Austria somehow came out on top of a centuries long multi front war
I think you're really hitting a stride with the setup of these videos! They've always been entertaining and I'm looking forward to where you will go with them!
This was actually a very tense game where anyone could've won. Venice was especially scary early on and how the city states in the middle constantly kept switching hands between Mongolia and Austria definitely was the most decisive moment of the game. I also like how Venice practically converted everyone to Christianity near the end.
What a comeback from Austria! Venice was in a pretty powerful position early on. It took the combined armies armies of the Portugal, Austria, and Mongolia to wrestle the control of the city-states from it, and even then, he survived mostly intact and lasted a lot longer than I would have thought with the Mongolians breathing down their necks. It would have been nice for Venice to win in the end, but they never was able to recover, sadly. The oil must flow!
I did not expect that ending at all. I was so sure the Mongols had that. If only they beat Venice earlier than let them live for God knows how long they might have swept thru while Austria was fighting Sweden
This map was made for Venice, as the city-states were so naturally protected, they were impossible to take early on. But I guess that Austria played their skill book to perfection. “Thanks for freeing us. What do you mean marriage?”
Just wanted to say, i love your AI battles. And now the important things: 1. Germany dies instantly as always 2.i hoped so hard that Venice get the win, but they waisted all ships against sweden. 3. Austria OP :D
At first I thought “wow this is so tilted towards Venice” then I realize that every civ in this game has some kind of city state related ability, so it was slightly more fair. But still, a human player would have dominated as Venice here
No Turkey ? I guess I will stick with Mongolia then. -Invades Greece: Haha Greeks would be right saying go back to Mongolia in this paralel universe ! -Tries to invade middle islands couple of times: Just like expeditions to Japan lol. -Dominates Eastern Half: Yussss ! -Left with Austuria: Now time to besiege Vienna ! Looses, facepalm.
Venice could have win this one if only they could have attacked Mongolia first to catch them of guard (instead of vice-versa as we seen in the video), built a better navy early on to defined their best cities from invasion.
Do you use any mods with these? If so, could I suggest the 'Hex Capture and Relase' mod, which allows civs to capture enemy hexes. Could add more complexity to the wars.
A mod suggestion for when you include city states. The city state evolved mod, it pretty much allows city states to found or conquer a city for every passed era. steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=505858208

Austria could have won much faster if they would have attacked Sweden at the right time, instead of launching pointless naval attacks on Mongolia too early in the game
At one point, I actually thought Venice could pull this off for once
I cried when Venice was conquered
Soon Venice, soon. It took 3 large armies and navies to take Venice down. They could have won if they didn't get ganged up on :(

The damn Venetians had that third Merchant of Venice ready, but failed to use it to secure the center. Sad day for the Doge.
Am I the only one who was rooting for venice to win ... at least this one time
Yep me too. Alas, it wasn't to be...
Same. They were going so strong early on!
i thought venice had a chance, but then i remembered they only can make military units out of one city.
@@MrZiggy-sk2wg not if they conquer capitals, right?

because Austria had two city in the middle vs 1 for the Mongol 6:34 to 6:51 this is the decisive of the game for real
I think you're really hitting a stride with the setup of these videos!

They won the religious war at least hehe

Feel bad for Venice. They achieved so much glory, only for Mongolia to take it from them.
It's like watching a sports game
I don't remember how I started watching these and I cannot believe how much entertainment I get from AI battles in civilization game
This map was made for Venice, as the city-states were so naturally protected, they were impossible to take early on.
But I guess that Austria played their skill book to perfection.
“Thanks for freeing us. What do you mean marriage?”
I thought Venice's early game advantage would do the trick, but Austria....damn.
thought the same
They just started a war with EVERYONE! That rarely goes well :-D
there's just no way for thm to produce the troops the other ais could sadly. can't produce units consistantly if you can only have puppet states
Just wanted to say, i love your AI battles.
And now the important things:

3. Austria OP :D
Austria won because they had the high ground.
Bogota really hung in there until the bitter end.
Once Austria took the center it was gg for Mongolia
it could have been amazing if Venice didn't get 2v1 there :(
I'm not sure what is bigger fail: Morocco's utter inability to take down Arabia, or Swedish impotence against goddam flat terrain lonely Lisbon.
Greece attacking Arabia was even greater
6:20 is awesome! Austria just sweeps through and wrecks Sweden
It’s crazy how who held the city states showed the power during the eras
Venice overextended WAYYY too much. I denounce Venice.
Cant believe Venice lost even HERE! They were so OP at the beginning!!
Once that Halo theme kicked in, shit went down
For reference, the track is "The Gun Pointed at the Head of the Universe" by Martin O'Donnell and Michael Salvatori.
Well Venice got tripled teamed there, but the got revenge on Portugal atleast.
I knew Austria would do me proud! **Sniffles**
Reeeeeeeeeeeeee
They were so close Venice
At first I thought “wow this is so tilted towards Venice” then I realize that every civ in this game has some kind of city state related ability, so it was slightly more fair. But still, a human player would have dominated as Venice here
Usually Sweden is very strong in these games but I was surprised how Austria manage to pull an underdog victory from using the Great Wall.

Epic video man!! Venice really fucked up their opportunities this game :( and Mongolia also missed their shot.
I like the failed Mongol invasion of Austria so they left and killed Venice instead
one of the most interesting ai battles
Mongolia's navy was his downfall at the end.
just like real world
@@Chooseyouruniquehandl yeah! Japan

all i want to see is for venice to win is that really too kuch too ask

Venice had an unfair advantage here, they could have taken the game if they took Bogota
Venice could have win this one if only they could have attacked Mongolia first to catch them of guard (instead of vice-versa as we seen in the video), built a better navy early on to defined their best cities from invasion.
You should make an AI tournament. Would be cool to watch.
Mongols stoped at the gates Austria in history XD
Suggestion: do a large Asia map with Mongolia, China, India and Japan and a lot of city states and watch Mongolia go crazy.
Do you use any mods with these? If so, could I suggest the 'Hex Capture and Relase' mod, which allows civs to capture enemy hexes. Could add more complexity to the wars.
Genuinely a great ai battle
Yet another awesome AI battle.
And the winner is, wait for it... not the mongols?
So was supporting Austria, now I'm happy
If you could make a map that looks even more like a vulva that would be great
God I love the Bleach soundtrack!

Why does civ 5 look better graphically than civ 6
Obviously not. In Civ 6 graphics more “cartooned” but animations and stuff looks better.

thats unfair. venice special ability is too strong in this map
still lose .
lol. It's not unfair at all on this map. Venice got waxed. Greece, Germany, and Thailand were the ones who really got screwed.
