RevZilla is seriously awesome. I don't know of any other company or website that puts so much effort into describing the products they sell. The level of detail they provide is simply unmatched. Many thanks to all the staff, both in-store and online, who never seem to get tired of doing what they do so well.
I ended up getting this as my very first helmet. I also got the photochromatic shield. Wow is it awesome! It is always the perfect amount of tint and in the sun it gets darker then the smoke shield. You can't see my face which I love. Plus it has the pinlock insert too so no fog. It was about $170 but worth not having to ever switch out shields. I saved money by getting a plain black matte color instead of a design (which adds $100+ to the cost). The helmet is made for a bit of a tuck. I ride a cruiser so I do have to move my head down to see my gauge on my gas tank. However when I'm sitting up right I can see the road fine and when I lean a little when crusing fast I like that I can see everything well.
I know that the GT-Air is super quiet so I didn't want to compare it to that. Knowing that it's as quiet or quieter than the RF-1100 was what I needed to know. Thank you!
Just got rf1200. My first hi end helmet. Ride r1200rt. Lower windshield to get enough air to vent. Quiet behind windshield. Especially when all way up. Snug safe feeling fit. Looks great with black and silver. Liked colorful blue but just to flashy for me.
I would guess this beats the Qwest in wind noise, as the bottom opening and seal created by the cheek pads is more all-encompassing than the Qwest. ~Ali
Quieter than the RF-1100, yes. Quiet in general? Not as much as something like the Qwest or the GT-Air. Understand when buying a sport helmet, the emphasis will not be on noise level, whereas on touring helmets they pay much more attention to noise. -CK
Hey guys, hard to pitch the RF-1200 as a Dual-sport helmet, but there isn't anything holding it back! I think the RF-1200 is going to be the lighter option, so that may tip the scales. The GT-Air has a few more touring features like the drop-down sun-visor that set it apart. Curious, why are you looking at this one over a Dual Sport helmet like the Arai XD-4 or Shoei Hornet? -CK
have this helmet currently. So comfortable and quiet. You can tell they really put work on this helmet. Worth the extra cash if you're debating on this helmet or the 1100
Very informative video! Thanks! Bought an RF 1200 recently and this vid, along with the manual, is giving me a lot of insight into features, functions, and cleaning.
RevZilla thanks! I chose the RF 1200 Brigand helm, icon hood jacket, and bought a 2014 matte grey and black Yamaha Stryker 1300. It's my first bike and im loving it. Still in the break in period though.
Dan9156 I have a Large K3 and went with a large shoei. You should be fine with a Large. If it's too lose or too tight you can always buy smaller or bigger cheek pads. Just break it in first, it's amazing helmet!
I'm on a Triumph Bonneville. My Qwest is about 2 years old and I had an RF1100 before that (went down in it, replaced with Qwest). I've been in a constant debate on replacing it with an internal sun visor helmet but now that the photochrom lens is available with Shoei. I'm considering that an option as well. One thing is for sure , i'm sick of toting around two shields and would like the pinlock.
Great! I have the XR 1100 and I use it for track days. I am very happy with it. Seems that Shoei improved on the old model without compromising the strengths of the helmet. Anyway, I will wait for X-13 (X-Spirit 3) since I only use it on track!
Anthony Bucci I've always been impressed with your reviews. That's the reason why I buy my gear from RevZilla. You're articulate, know the products well and address common questions that riders may have, especially beginner riders. I got my first bike 3 years ago and picked up the RF-1100 b/c of your review and I'm glad I did. If i could make one suggestion it would be that I would love to see a beginner riders' section on your site with explanations of common terminology and safety tips. And why ATGATT is so important. I cringe every time I pass another rider with no helmet. Thanks again for your great customer service, keep up the good work.
I have this helmet (NXR marquez black ant in europe) for some months now. I replaced a shoei xspirit 2 kallio replica with it. it is a very good lightweight helmet. Compact and feels really snug ( i have placed thicker inserts and cheaks). I find only one negative and this is the wind noise/buffeting and the air which comes inside EVEN WITH EVERYTHING CLOSED and side locked. this occured from day 1 with or without rear luggage. i have tested and tried different combinations in the shiled mechanism. I went to the shoei authorized importer and he checked the base plate and made also some testing but not improved. compared to xspirit 2, even I don't drive at tuck position, with same bike and same windshield on it, imho I think that from somewhere air comes inside more than it should at least (well we are speaking for a helmet in an open road :-) )
I have experienced the same buffeting around the ears, especially once I start exceeding 100km/h (62mph), though I must say I still love the helmet to bits!
Nothing confirmed from Shoei at this point. The X-12 is a bit more recent that the RF-1100 was, so I doubt we'll see it within the next calendar year. -CK
What kind of bike are you on? This would definitely be an upgrade from both, but the GT-Air still sits above with the added features like the Drop down Sun-Visor -CK
I had such high hopes for this helmet! I am bummed about the rear spoiler looking like it was "added" to the helmet! I also am not a fan of the new side lock location! I can tell that is going to be a pain. I loved it on the side of my RF-1100. You can't accidentally engage or disengage it. Now, you'll be hitting it when fussing with the shield. Horrible design there. I'm sure it's comfy, it's a Shoei and they sure have that part figured out!
What color is the helmet at 1:10 in front of the guy? I'm assuming metallic black however on the revzilla website the metallic black looks matte colored and not glossy like the helmet in the video. Please help if you want me to spend $500 on your site. Many people have asked this in the question section of your website and still can't get a good answer.
The helmet in the video is standard gloss Black. Metallic Black is also glossy but has a metal flake finish. As an aside, the Q&A section on the site is sourced from previous buyers. So after someone buys a product, the system may ask that person later on if they might be able to help another rider out by answering a question someone else has about the product. This way, there's a wider point of view/opinion about the product rather than just RevZilla's answer. However, we do realize that some questions aren't being answered, so we are trying to go through to answer them ourselves. I hope the answer here on UA-cam helps you! -DrewZilla
@@RevZilla Did you mean this helmet is the metallic black one because at 6:20 it looks like it has metallic flakes in it. I want to order the same one that's in the video that's why I'm asking.
At the 2:22 mark of this video Anthony has three different styles of mounts attached to his GoPro's. I can't seem to find these on Revzilla. Who makes those mounts? Where can I buy them?
I buyed rf1200 in size s and it is hard to put it on/off thinking that my ears will tear off, but in it everthing ok feel snug. My head is 57cm. Must i go to m or stay on s?? Thanks
I really like this helmet. Just bought the GT Air but I’m liking the looks of this one better. Going to sell my GT Air and get this 1200. Great review.
Thank god I waited and didnt get the GT Air. This has pinlock and telechromic lens while being snell approved. Great helmet. Love that they added a center vent up top.
I drank the kook-aid on the multiple sizing of the shells, and thought this would be smaller and lighter than your average helmet. I bought an RF-1200, and then compared it's size to my old HJC CL-12 (and an old Z1R). Both are size medium, and dimensionally they are pretty much identical (within about 1/2 inch width, length, and approx circumference.) I'll bet both of these 'lower grade' helmets are mediums based on a large shell. I think people are assuming that these helmets are less 'bobblehead' looking, when in fact you should be taking measurements of the outside dimensions of the helmets to see if there is, in fact, any significant difference. From my measurements, there is none.
a friend of mine bought the RF1100 and he was suffering from whistling noise at the top of the helmet. Does this newer version have the same problem? Thank you and cheers :)
Is the whistling coming from the top of the faceshield or the top vents? Sometimes, new helmets need their faceshields adjusted to get the proper seal around the faceshield's gasket. This is done by loosening the baseplates, evenly pressing the faceshield against its gasket, and retightening the baseplates. I personally have this helmet and had to adjust my faceshield. Is your friend's riding position correct for the RF-1100's ¾ to tuck riding position? It's not a super quiet helmet but sometimes minor adjustments can do the trick. -Hi-Viz Brian
Yeah, the universal communication is a big boost for U-Clear. We also like that they include the ear bud option. Would you say Sena is the number one communicator in your opinion?
hugdeath929 I wouldn't call any Bluetooth communicator number one. The Sena is certainly a top contender. Each communicator has specific features that attract different riding styles. You can't go wrong with Sena, though. -Hi-Viz Brian
deciding between x14 and rf1200 is difficult, i love the aggressive looks, graphic option and customization features on the x14, but i like rf1200 for its versatility.
Since Anthony has been riding with this, what's the final word on wind noise? Is it quieter than the RF-1100? Rideapart says it is while Webbikeworld says that it's really noisy.
Hello Revzilla. I finalized my decision in going to Shoei rf1200 for replacement with my icon airframe. Because i wear prescription glasses and the icon airframe is on super tight fit. Does the Shoei rf1200 is comfortable with glasses? And i do not like the super tight cheek pads like the icon airframe. How is the cheekpads of the rf1200? The icon airframe makes me dizzy. Thank you. please help.
Philip Samonte The RF-1200 should work well with your glasses. If the stock cheek pads are too tight, you can upgrade to thinner pads which I've linked below. Keep in mind, they will break in about 10% +/- over time. -Hi-Viz Brian * www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/shoei-rf-1200-cheek-pads
Hi RevZilla, greetings from Greece. I would like to hear your opinion on something. I was thinking of buying a Shoei NXR (found a deal at a shop here in Athens for the Solid version at 380 euros, that is about 420 dollars) but then I found a bargain at another bike shop on a Schuberth SR-1, almost at the same price (400 euros, about 445 dollars). I know it’s like comparing apples and oranges, but, would you make a suggestion? I mean, I Know the NXR ticks all the boxes already and that the SR-1 is more for track use and probably, more than I will ever ask for, but isn’t it a real bargain at that price? I own a 2004 Yamaha FZ1 and do about 30 miles of city commuting every day. I don’t do trips that often, but when I do, I would like to have a helmet which is quiet and comfy. Thanks for your attention.
I really like the RF-1200 (NXR), but the SR-1 can actually work pretty well for commuting as well, so for such a good deal, I'd consider the Schuberth. -DrewZilla
How do you guys have this on your site and it's not even on Shoei's yet ? Tell me more about the photochromic shield!! Will it be available for the x-12, qwest et al?
never imagined that id be viewing this video again. but i crashed and faceplanted my 1100 :( . my first choice was to get another 1100 but there are only a few left of that model. the 1200(nxr) seems in most ways better then the 1100, is the fit identical as well you say it is but then say its a bit longer? or is that in reference to more chinroom? how would it compare to the GTair in shape? (bleh i didnt want to be really looking for a new helmet now XD)
Oneindig318 The RF-1200 and GT-Air have the same fit, which is slightly smaller overall compared to the RF-1100. The RF-1200 feels like it fits 1/2 size smaller than the RF-1100. I fit well into all three helmets in Medium. -Hi-Viz Brian
RevZilla not just the helmet, dainese textiles with the long elbow to lower-arm protector did a very good job, not to mention shoulder and knee. thumbs up to dainese for this. a* gt-s on the hands did a good job but a finger tore at the top (no dmg to me) so ill be trying the archer instead now i think.
+Oneindig318 i'll update this hehe, got a GT-air for replacement! awesome helmet, its sligthly narrower then the 1100 and the 1200 i feel, my ears always fold more when i put it on, but when they are settled its a very snug and comfortable fit! was a hard choice between the two (1200 (nxr) and gt-air though, both felt good on the head.
thinking about buying this helmet this week. I've tried it on at a store. Extremely comfortable. Also, does anyone know what jacket he's wearing in this video. I really like and want to buy it too on revzilla. The jacket can be seen at 2:25. Thanks in advance!!
how does this helmet work with a naked bike riding position ( i ride a honda 919) . I have the Shark Speed-R and the difference from riding upright to riding in the tuck position is night and day. Can i get some feedback from people who have owned this helmets for at least a year? Thanks!!
Hi, I have a small size head and an RF 1000 in small. Fits me fine but the shell size is big for my 5'7 150lb body (bobble hea). Seems the RF1200 will have a smaller shell thus fixing this. But, off the top of your head is there another comparable brand/model that has an even smaller overall shell profile?
+scr1be In size small, the RF-1200 is among the smallest shells available. Also consider the Scorpion EXO-R2000 and HJC RPHA 10. -DrewZilla *www.revzilla.com/shoei-rf-1200-helmets *www.revzilla.com/scorpion-exo-r2000-helmet *www.revzilla.com/hjc-rpha-10-helmet

RevZilla bell vortex was too noisy but a Great value helmet, right along side the exo-r710 but its only a little quieter, my brothers shoei rf-1100 felt heavy but a cacoon of protection, great ventilation, stable and a whole lot quieter... im on a scooter its hard justifying a premium helmet, should i buy once and forget or any recommendations on another fullface helmet for street and country roads in an upright position. please and thank you
This being AIM+ and the GT-Air being AIM ( with no + ), would you say the GT-Air is a step down in terms of safety, or is it same levels of safety, just more weight?
Please do a review of the Shoei RF-SR once y'all get some in please! I'm looking at getting a different helmet next season to replace the Icon Variant... the 1200 was on the short list, and then I saw a post about the RF-SR today! It's poised to bump the 1200 off my list!
Hi Viz Brian thanks for your response, I have another question. Am I on the right track looking at the RF1200 since I ride in an upright position? I have a 2010 Ultra Classic with 12 1/2 inch apes so I sit very upright. I read on some of the reviews the RF1200 is designed more for a 3/4 or full tuck position. They say vent position is better on a GT Air for the upright rider. I can't really afford to spend more than the price of an RF1200. Are there any other intermediate oval helmets I should consider? I just kind of thought after never really having a good helmet I would like to get a Shoei. I don't need the inner flip down sun shield because I have the latest transition lenses that will darken behind the stock clear shield. I would like a removable washable liner with the option of using different size ear pads. I think the new RF1200 looks really nice but I have read some negative reviews about wind noise. Your thoughts please ?Thanks
You're welcome, Chuck Leftwich! The RF-1200 has vents that are positioned better for the 3/4 and tuck riding positions. However, that just means the vents are about an inch lower than those on the GT-Air. You probably won't be able to tell a difference. I had an RF-1100 and now ride in a Scorpion EXO-R2000, which are both 3/4 and tuck position helmets. I use them on my KLR 650 (upright) and ZX6R (tuck). I've never ridden in a helmet that I was happy with from a noise level perspective. I feel like wind noise is one of those "nature of the beast" things. However, if you don't wear them already, earplugs make a huge difference and they're cheap. The RF-1200 will be my next helmet, especially since they came out with the Shoei CWR-1 photochromic pinlock-ready face shield. -Hi-Viz Brian
RevZilla Thanks Hi Viz Brian, I'm going to KC this weekend and found a shop that has the RF1200 so I can try it on. If it feels like a good fit I will order it from Rev Zilla.I thought I would wait untill Labor Day to see if it goes on sale. Have you by chance seen the black metallic finish ? When I called the shop in KC he told me the metallic has a matte finish but in your video it looks shiny. I'm looking for a shiny or gloss finish, the flat finish is just not me.
Hi. Just got back to riding after 4-5 years looking after the kids... and my old, trusty RF800 needs replacing. Was looking to just upgrade to the RF1200, but a fellow rider recommends the GT AIR... Your advice?
Yannick Kammer-Mayer Both are great choices. If you want an internal sunvisor, go for the GT-Air. If you don't need that, or if you need a Snell certification, go for the RF-1200. -DrewZilla

Yes, the RF-1200 will take any Bluetooth option with ease. -CK
GT-Air for more touring, especially in hot weather. RF-1200 for every other riding scenario. ~Ali
Just got mine in the mail today. Shoei rf1200 valkyrie. Great fit, can't wait for it to warm up.
Worth the extra cash if you're debating on this helmet or the 1100
Well said. -Hi-Viz Brian
Very informative video! Thanks! Bought an RF 1200 recently and this vid, along with the manual, is giving me a lot of insight into features, functions, and cleaning.
Alexander McClelland Great choice! What are you riding? -DrewZilla
RevZilla thanks! I chose the RF 1200 Brigand helm, icon hood jacket, and bought a 2014 matte grey and black Yamaha Stryker 1300. It's my first bike and im loving it. Still in the break in period though.
Ordered myself one of these. Can't wait to try it out, I currently have an AGV k3 sv
Dan9156 I have a Large K3 and went with a large shoei. You should be fine with a Large. If it's too lose or too tight you can always buy smaller or bigger cheek pads. Just break it in first, it's amazing helmet!
These really do offer a snug fit which is good because some brands a large is too loose but with the RF 1200 it fits nicely.
Tough choice. Sounds like the Photochromatic lens is more of a need for you at this point. -CK
so much information and it doesn't look like you're reading from a script...GREAT reviews. Thanks a million for this and the many other videos.
Script? HA! Product geekout , my man. I'm just freestyling. - Anthony

I've always been impressed with your reviews.
It was good to actually see some footage on the bike wearing the helmet. You should try to do that more often.
We should see these start to arrive in early November. ~Ali
Nothing confirmed from Shoei at this point. The X-12 is a bit more recent that the RF-1100 was, so I doubt we'll see it within the next calendar year. -CK
Always first class reviews from Anthony!
Nice! Liking the riding footage to that gives us an idea of how it would look, definitely getting this
What kind of bike are you on? This would definitely be an upgrade from both, but the GT-Air still sits above with the added features like the Drop down Sun-Visor -CK
had a rf-1000 upgraded to rf-1100 and probably gonna go with the rf-1200
love shoei helmets!
I'm literally doing the exact same thing, ha! -Hi-Viz Brian
My apologies. The older RF-1100 on the table is standard black, but you are correct that the RF-1200 is the metallic black. -DrewZilla
@@RevZilla Thanks for the replies. Will definitely order from you guys in the future!
You're welcome!
At the 2:22 mark of this video Anthony has three different styles of mounts attached to his GoPro's. I can't seem to find these on Revzilla. Who makes those mounts? Where can I buy them?
I believe they were suction cup mounts. -Hi-Viz Brian

First helmet I ever got was the XR (RF) 1100 Warlord, when the model was brand spankin new and it is still awesome but need a replacement.
Shoei helms fit me, I am almost needing a new rf and this looks great
I can't wait to get this helmet. Getting my motorcycle license in 2 weeks!
I buyed rf1200 in size s and it is hard to put it on/off thinking that my ears will tear off, but in it everthing ok feel snug. My head is 57cm. Must i go to m or stay on s?? Thanks
Tomislav Novak I am also 57cm and the Medium fits me best. I recommend going with a Medium. -Hi-Viz Brian
From my measurements, there is none.
great helmet at a great price...I am waiting for the transition shield ... any eta?
Cool,,,
A transition shield too. Very cool.
Good point
Leslie Sofarelli We're waiting too! Hopefully April for the Transitions shield for the RF-1200. -DrewZilla
RevZilla
good to know thx
Also, love the footage of Anthony looking like a badass on that Mission!
a friend of mine bought the RF1100 and he was suffering from whistling noise at the top of the helmet.
Just ordered one of these to replace my Arai Vector 2, hope its a solid lid.
Really like my RF-1100, looking forward to trying on an RF-1200 soon.
I think you will be impressed! -Hi-Viz Brian
The most beautiful motorcycle helmet ever!
AGV Pista GP RR, Ruroc Atlas 2.0 : Are we Jokes to you?!?
Nice review man... much appreciated. don't need a new bucket yet but I LOVE my rf1100 so I'm definitely upgrading soonish..
Is shoei rf-1200 same as z7 and nxr?
nxr = rf-1200 yes
deciding between x14 and rf1200 is difficult, i love the aggressive looks, graphic option and customization features on the x14, but i like rf1200 for its versatility.
Unless you do track days, you don't really need the X-14. -DrewZilla
Since Anthony has been riding with this, what's the final word on wind noise? Is it quieter than the RF-1100? Rideapart says it is while Webbikeworld says that it's really noisy.
only thing id miss from the rf1100 is the one piece spoiler on the back of the helmet
-Hi-Viz Brian
* www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/shoei-rf-1200-cheek-pads
RevZilla Thanks Brian its good to know that there is an available cheek pads option. Will be getting this helmet for sure. Thanks again.
5:08 "But wait! There's more! This helmet NOW comes with TWO FLUFFY KITTENS! ABSOLUTELY FREE IN THE BOX!"
EUPHORIA3D WHAT?! I love fluffy kittens! -HVB
EUPHORIA3D Sadly I'm allergic. :'-( -DrewZilla
Looking forward to the new graphics choices
Oneindig318 We're glad your RF-1100 did it's job! -Hi-Viz Brian
RevZilla
not just the helmet, dainese textiles with the long elbow to lower-arm protector did a very good job, not to mention shoulder and knee. thumbs up to dainese for this. a* gt-s on the hands did a good job but a finger tore at the top (no dmg to me) so ill be trying the archer instead now i think.
Tyler Tran It's the 2009 version of the Dainese Newsan leather jacket. -Hi-Viz Brian
rvz.la/1hW4Xiw - This is the latest version.
It would be better see it in a more light colour? The black one is too dark to see the differences
I don't really know what you're talking about... but Nicely done, Guv'Na!!!
how does this helmet work with a naked bike riding position ( i ride a honda 919) . I have the Shark Speed-R and the difference from riding upright to riding in the tuck position is night and day. Can i get some feedback from people who have owned this helmets for at least a year?
Thanks!!
Sold on the speaker pockets, i love my icon helmet collection but my scala speakers always move around
Technically, this should be better than the Pinlock insert since it won't be behind a UV blocking shield. Better tinting perhaps.
-DrewZilla

How does this compare to the Bell RS-1? Is it wider? Shoeis tend to be too wide in my opinion, giving you a weird look.

That's what I'm here for. Let me know if I can help with anything else. -Hi-Viz Brian
I wish the aesthetics were better, but I still plan on purchasing due to the transition shield option.
I think it looks bad ass
0Cereal0 Oh it's nice indeed. I think the GT Air & X FOURTEEN look better.
RevZilla
bell vortex was too noisy but a Great value helmet, right along side the exo-r710 but its only a little quieter, my brothers shoei rf-1100 felt heavy but a cacoon of protection, great ventilation, stable and a whole lot quieter...
im on a scooter its hard justifying a premium helmet, should i buy once and forget or any recommendations on another fullface helmet for street and country roads in an upright position.
please and thank you
Onyx Haze I really think your head is worth it! The Shoei RF-1200 is both well-vented and quiet, so I'd save up for it. -DrewZilla
This being AIM+ and the GT-Air being AIM ( with no + ), would you say the GT-Air is a step down in terms of safety, or is it same levels of safety, just more weight?
How does this Shoei Helmet perform in nasty wet weather? Do all the vents seal well at all speeds? Is it okay to use on a naked bike?
Please do a review of the Shoei RF-SR once y'all get some in please! I'm looking at getting a different helmet next season to replace the Icon Variant... the 1200 was on the short list, and then I saw a post about the RF-SR today! It's poised to bump the 1200 off my list!
Really like the riding footage. What kind of bike is that?
Definitely a plus, ruuman! -CK
Is is more sport than touring then? For riding a KLR is the GT-Air still a better option?
Chuck Leftwich The Black Metallic is definitely not Matte. It has a high gloss finish. My RF-1100 was Black Metallic. -Hi-Viz Brian
-DrewZilla
RevZilla Thanks!
Can't decide between this and a transition shield or the GT Air.
+Super-Tactical.com Definitely a tough choice. Both are great options! -DrewZilla
I've had both, and I prefer the RF-1200.
