This helmet, for me and many riders, is more comfortable than an RF-1200 with better chin coverage. It's also quieter, and I think in general the RF-1200 isn't as quiet as everyone says it is, but the RF-1200 really is a more aggressive/sportier model. I do like the simpler styling of the RF-SR along with some really great solid paint colors of which I wouldn't mind owning a few. I'll take the gorgeous matte blue or metallic orange over many of the current graphics Shoei offers on other models. Also, consider that most people who buy an RF-1200 buy a graphic, so that adds $100 to the price and then they aren't comparable. I do wish it had a top vent similar to the Qwest or GT-Air, but the vents are still more than adequate. There really isn't anything "entry level" about the RF-SR as it's typical Shoei build quality. There are several $400 helmets on the market that fall short of the RF-SR. The Qwest is very quiet and has good visibility, but sub-par ventilation and unremarkable styling. I think the RF-SR is a great upgrade!
I never liked the qwest, it was a very uncomfortable helmet and was not quite at all, could never see what all the fuss was about, hope this isn't just more of the same, paying for the brand name.
Just got this helmet yesterday. Representative at cycle gear explained the specs of this helmet just like this rep. And man, one of the best feeling helmets. Very lightweight, comfortable, strong airflow vents for summertime, easy Sena integration, low wind noise compared to my scorpion at-950. Great buy!
This is by far the best helmet out there. More comfortable than x14 rf1200 and gt air 2 in my opinion. I have ridden in all these helmets and own rf sr now... Zero complaints
Looking to buy a helmet like everyone else. My impression from the review is that Anthony really doesn’t like this helmet and all but begs you to spend the additional $85.00 for the 1200. This small amount of cash is a nonissue for most. Why I’m interested in this helmet is that it is designed for an uptight riding position over the 1200.
It is more expensive than the Bell visor, but it's a thicker visor that opens much easier and seals tight versus the Bell DLX that tends to flex and is a pain to get open while riding. I have both and I can definitely say the Shoei is a much better system than the bell. I don't like to wear glasses while riding, so the transition visors are my primary visors.
There's nothing intermediate to long about the RF-1200. It will cause pressure points at the forehead. The longest helmet in Shoei's lineup is the GT-Air, hands down.
As a British national, English is naturally my first language and although I did enjoy the detailed review I must just point out that I found the last 20 seconds of the review totally incomprehensible!
what he said was “Ooh I think I’ll have a nice spam and egg butty for me breakfast., I’m flummoxed as to where me car keys went, I ‘ad ‘em in me ‘and a second ago...Ooh blooming ‘eck, are you alright Eeh by gum that were a near miss!” ”
Went to try on a buncha options for my first helmet; the second this sunk onto my noggin I knew instantly it was the one. I even had all these ideas and preferences going into the store, but they all went away in that moment.
You guys are a big enough company that you should be putting out correct information. First the 20s was "waterproof" and the rf1200 was lighter.....As someone who works in the largest brick and motor store for motor cycle parts and accessories I actually work with these every day. The rf-sr has more shell sizes making it lower in weight. It's just as quiet as the 1200 and meets the same safety rating. If you guys actually read the shoei books given to you from the dealer you'd know this.
So, slightly heavier than RF-1200. Slightly louder than RF-1200. But better suited for upright riding than RF-1200? Though the RF-1200 is certainly doable for upright riding as well isn't it, something like a Monster?
It's not a huge difference for riding position. Both helmets work well for upright and 3/4 riding, and the RF-1200 is a decent track helmet too. Both would be good for a Monster. -DrewZilla
had to upgrade my helemet bc my old one is....well, old. this helmet is sooooooo light compared to my AGV k3. on the ride home from the shop, I immediately noticed how light it is. great field of view, i had way more confidence riding as a result. honestly felt like i wasnt wearing a helmet.
Tried this on last weekend along with a Qwest and RF1200. Pretty comfy helmets all around. It's just too bad none of them work with eyeglasses. The arms fall into the spot between pads and pushes your glasses up too high. :(
The RF-1200 works well both upright and leaned over as does the RF-SR, but the RF-SR is slightly more optimized for upright riding. I recommend trying both on if you can, because they do each have a slightly different fit. -DrewZilla
The shells sizes between the two are about the same, but it all depends on the sizes you are comparing as the QV (called the Signet-X here in the US) has 5 shells sizes compared to the RF-SR's 4. The Signet-X also has a Long Oval head shape whereas the RF-SR has an Intermediate Oval head shape giving the rider more space at the sides of the head and less at the forehead when comparing the two. If you have any other questions or concerns, please feel free to contact our Gear Geeks at 877.792.9455 or cs@revzilla.com. Ride safe, -Pat
hey fellas .. i know this is an old video. But had a question. Currently running a Exo-400 ... yes i know its old. How would this compare. Noise and comfort level. I do like my exo-400 its just old and needs to be replaced at this point. Thank you
I am relieved to hear that the fit is pretty close to the RF-1200. I haven't tried it yet since it's still not available to showrooms in my area, but it would be a great alternative. I'm curious if the liners and CWR-1 shields are interchangeable between the SR and RF1200?
Hi, guys! How do you compare it to the LS2 FF323 Arrow C Evo? IMHO, the LS2 is more attractive especially because of the carbon shell and it is already FRHPhe-01certified (looking from the "safety" point of view). Would like to know also your opinion. Thank you!
Both are appropriate for the Rebel's riding position. The Shoei is DOT- and Snell-rated for safety, is quieter than the HJC, but it doesn't have an internal sun visor. The HJC is DOT- and ECE-rated for safety, has better ventilation, and an internal sun visor. I recommend you determine whether you prefer a quieter helmet (you should wear earplugs regardless) or an internal sun visor. -DrewZilla
What i dont like about shoei they use a pvc wrap on the bottom pads that will peel off when we use the helmet longer.i have rf1200.just wrap i with fabric texture- then its perfect.
Nice lid, though it is a bit too close to the RF-1200, so I don't quite understand what it was they were trying to accomplish here. Perhaps more venting and a pronounced upright orientation? I dunno. For 85 bucks the choice is pretty obvious to me. Question... When is shoei going to make a breath guard that actually works? They keep putting the same old lame breath guard on there that they have used for years. Is there a real breath guard available for these helmets? Thanks!
Understood. I know, that is a tough one. I am surprised that helmet makers do not pay more attention to this aspect of wearing a lid, especially for those of us who tour and ride all year 'round. Pinlock works well, but sometimes you need a little more than that. Well, some do, just not Shoei apparently. I see MotoGP riders wearing breath boxes on their lids when it rains, so I wonder what they are using? Oh well, I will figure it out. Thanks again for the response!
My bike is street and I have no plans on riding a sportsbike, maybe a cruiser at some point. Which one would you recommend, RF-SR or RF-1200 if prices were the same? The RF-1200 looks more expensive and seems to be of higher quality. I have heard one fella say the RF-1200 has a thicker chin bar making it slightly harder to see the speedo in an upright position, is this true (shouldn't be the case if helmets are identical)?
If the prices were the same, I'd go for the RF-1200, as it is a bit nicer. There are plenty of upright riders wearing both helmets, and personally, I don't have an issue seeing speedometers. -DrewZilla
