This album got me through my first tour in Iraq as a Combat Medic. The rage of it propelled me through the Hell of war... And later, the soft, painful vocals were there to sympathize with the loss of my brothers. I can listen to this album forever and it won’t be long enough.
Although I've not witnessed the horror of humanity like you have, I do feel that pain through some not so great times the last 10 years and my younger brother and best friend leaving me unexpectedly 6 months ago. Peace in heart and soul to you...........btw, I agree.....that voice brings a wide spectrum of emotions to me. One of the best IMO......
This song is like gospel for the lonely. Alienated and disconnected and yet all of us so desperately searching for that human connection that goes beyond the cursey glance and oversimplified version of what has become of so many.

We'll have to agree to disagree with Layne Staley...His voice was unique, but when I saw him in concert he couldn't hold a tune to save his life and he's never been known for having a decent range, unlike Cornell. The two times I saw Soundgarden, Chris sounded as good if not better than on the studio albums. Harmonies are a different story, but the statement was "best voice ever," not best combo. I still listen to Superunknown and Audioslave's first album regularly...but I listen to Sublime's albums regularly as well. I still say Nowell is right up there with Cornell, leaps and bounds above Staley and Hoon (he's the only one I really don't get...even on album his voice was awful IMHO).

"I Am The Highway" Pearls and swine bereft of me. Long and weary my road has been. I was lost in the cities, alone in the hills. No sorrow or pity for leaving, I feel, yeah. I am not your rolling wheels - I am the highway. I am not your carpet ride - I am the sky. Friends and liars don't wait for me, 'Cause I'll get on all by myself. I put millions of miles under my heels; And still too close to you, I feel, yeah. I am not your rolling wheels - I am the highway. I am not your carpet ride - I am the sky. I am not your carpet ride - I am the sky. Well, I am not your blowing wind - I am the lightning. I am not your autumn moon - I am the night... the night. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
i know that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but who the fuck can sing better than Cornell? every time i hear him sing, i'm blown away by the vocal.
Just heard this out in the shop, came in to get a beer and look up the song...I recognized the voice but never heard this one. I'm almost 62 now, been retired from Ironworkers Local 10 now for seven years after almost 40 years of climbing that steel. Finally divorced my second wife a couple years ago after she left me 10 years ago. She's remained my closest and best friend through 20+ years of marriage and friendship. This song hit so close to home because I use to say, "I am not your musician, I am the song"...She's moved on now and I'm still holdin down the man cave, buildin bikes and restoring old Chevy trucks...Rest in Peace Chris Cornell, see you on top brother! ~Michael of the clan Hill~

I’m a proud (retired) Ironworkers daughter from Local 290, Dayton, Ohio. Y’all are the toughest men/women I know. It’s an honor to witness the stories of how y’all built America. Thank you for your dedication.
Chris Cornell's voice carries me through times of darkness, despair and pain. when I listen to his voice, I feel less alone. his voice is like no one else. he was talented and famous, but those things don't protect the mind from sadness and despair. wish he could have held on. but I understand he was probably tired of life, and just wanted everything to stop. depression is terrible, and it robbed us of an amazing musician. I listen to Chris Cornell and it helps me feel a little better.
Yesterday 17.05.17 you left us ... I just want to say thanks, for everything you did in music and especially for every moment your lyrics accompany my way in this life. Thanks... Fly High Dear Chris.

Does anyone else feel emotionally invested in this family's story? I almost want to ask how things are going but I know you don't know me at all. The way the photos were put together along with an extremely emotional and stirring song is brilliant. Peace.
I came across this video and identified with it so damn much. The reason why I did was because I made this exact journey myself. Strung out in San Diego I knew I needed to change or I was going to die. I moved to Oregon and changed everything about myself. I’m a family man now with children and grandkids now. I work in my community helping kids. My life is different as I’m a giver now and not a taker.
6 Days later and I still cant get over it. Never really been bothered with celebrity deaths but this time it really hit me. Grew up on your work. Man, it feels like this this world is getting darker. Too many good people being taken away. Rest in Peace Chris Cornell.
Jacob Shay ill NEVER get over his death I feel lile.ive lost a family member ..it hurts so bad..I cant believee he would do that he had so much to live for and a beautiful family..he was still so young.im.just in awe .my heart is truly broke for him and his family..rip the greatest voice of our time.well NEVER forget u chris.fly high
My little one loves Audioslave, as does his father. Loved all his previous work too. He created so much art for us to enjoy sonically, we needn't be sad for our own loss; we ought to pray for his wife, children, and bandmates. We lost his ability to create new art - they lost the dad, husband, and lead singer/songwriter. While we all grieve, some do more than others.
stupid orgasm Like a Stone was the first Audioslave song I went to. For Soundgarden it was Burden in my Hand. Temple of the Dog it was Say Hello to Heaven. Still can't believe he's gone.

Such a soulful voice. Chris Cornell was one of the greatest vocalists in rock history. He stayed true to himself and he will be missed but never forgotten. Oh man, such a tragedy. One of my all time favorite songs that has given me hope in dark times will live on as all his music will. Beautiful video. RIP Chris Cornell. May you Rest In Peace and God be with you always.
I’m 54 years old and the happiest I’ve ever been. But, I cry everyday about the loss of loved ones and they way we tend to treat each other. RIP Chris.
It is a tragedy how we treat each other, especially with the unbeatable, undeniable, irrifutable fact; that we will all, be dust some day. The knowledge of that should move us all to hold tighter, love deeper, give more freely, and bring us closer to a more alert awareness of our immortality. Love not hate-give not take-right not wrong-an opening not a closing-a lifting not a sinking-a building up and not the tearing down-that oh so many do. If only we could get the world to look through the eyes of innocence, maybe then it would be kinder. UNTIL THEN- Chris and Chester and layne and Cobain and the too many to count talented musician now gone, we will have the magic that their music gives.
@@MetalVentor Did you go to the Phillipines? Did you do the things that you hoped for? And did the anxiety zcontinue long? We live a close childhood brother man, I was also 7 when this came out and now 21. If it wasn’t for my parents playing this for us while taking drives we wouldn’t of experienced it properly. I remember those days when it was just me, my mom and dad before they separated driving down those country roads in Northern Michigan on a rainy day, no words spoken, child me looking out the window half asleep. This song hits different every time I hear it...
Herpy1000 Ironic isn't it? I came here to get away from bullshit. Arguing on videos on youtube with music on is like going into the wilderness complaining about how there's no shopping mall...
I have no idea why this is so evocative. Maybe because it’s so emotionally genuine, and so honest in every conceivable way. What a remarkable and valuable thing to share with the world. Thank you.
Believe in yourself and your abilities and don't let others treat you less than you know you are. 'I'm not your carpet ride' . Each of us are so much more.

Beautifully written song. What I love about music is that everyone in this world can listen to the same song, we will each have our own take on the meaning behind the lyrics. We are all at different places in our lives which gives us each a different perspective. I guarantee you, you can listen to this today and know what it means to you and listen to it again after you lived more of your life and have moved on to a new place and perspective and it will mean something different to you. The POWER of music. There is nothing like it that I can possibly think of. It's truly a gift these artist's have given us. It is always with us. Never to be forgotten. From one music lover to another:)
Jacob Rice I grew up during the 60's and 70's and I LOVED the music. In my youthful arrogance, I only THOUGHT I understood the meanings behind the lyrics. About a year ago, I was listening to a Bob Seger song. One which I had listened too countless times. But on this particular evening, it felt like I was hearing it for the first time and in a manner of speaking, I was. I TRULY understood the meanings of the words he was singing. I had now lived many of them and had a clear understanding of the rest. People swear they know the meaning behind the lyrics of a song and will verbally fight about it. Music has and will always be based on your vantage point and your perception. I like to think that is one of the things that makes music such a gift. The ability of one song to change several times within one's lifetime. I think it's incredibly amazing. Sorry for the wordy reply. It's one of those flaws that makes me human:) Have a great rest of your day!!

Pearls and swine bereft of me.
Long and weary my road has been.
I was lost in the cities, alone in the hills.
No sorrow or pity for leaving, I feel, yeah.

I am not your carpet ride - I am the sky.

And still too close to you, I feel, yeah.

I am not your autumn moon - I am the night… the night.

No One Sings Like You Anymore
Chris's voice is like a light for the lonely. Helped me through so many tough times.

I came across this video and identified with it so damn much. The reason why I did was because I made this exact journey myself. I work in my community helping kids. My life is different as I’m a giver now and not a taker.

It's a crying ass shame nobody was this sad when Nick Menza died.... that man was a legend and beast on a drumkit.
While we all grieve, some do more than others.
this is the first song I came to after hearing of Chris Cornell's death. he was truly an amazing artist.

763,421 miles and 48 states in 6 1/2 years , I am the Highway
No I am the highway over 3,000,000 miles in 30 years of over the road trucker and no at fault accidents.

Well said. Agreed.
No pudiste describirlo mejor... you could not say it better... really...
