There have been at least seven suicides by people I have known. They all hurt forever, but I never get over them. I have just learned to accommodate the sadness

He was legendary in every sense of the word... I love you Chris, RIP....
To think, Chris was excited by the GNR reunion and was covering one of their songs. And then I saw GNR in 2017, and they were covering Black Hole Sun in HIS honor. Loving seeing that mutual respect.
Soundgarden opened for Guns N Roses on the Use Your Illusions tour. Chris was friends with Slash, Duff and Matt.
No disrespect to GNR but Chris’ version blows the original out the water.. IMO
@@GUNSHIPFLEX agreed!
@@GUNSHIPFLEX IMO it's always daaamn tough to beat the original of ANY song as there was no template for it. I love Chris's version of course but gotta go with the original. Beauty is in the eye of the beerholder.
@@GUNSHIPFLEX no disrepect to Chris, but no one could top axl in his prime, or come even close.
Dont forget Layne, Scott, and Kurt! Chris had a way of arranging covers and make them his own. Genius
Andy Wood, Chester, Taylor Hawkins... what a sad list. How sad that it keeps growing.
“No one sings like you anymore” indeed. The greatest loss in music history and a hell of a great person by all accounts
Exactly Chris’s voice will never be matched or replaced he definitely was somebody very very special
I can kinda imatate him in Some songs frfr. And Yes.... fully aware Im a Female
Absolutely. Men definitely cry as they say although I cried when I heard about his supposed suicide. Cornell could've been frontman for any group and sadly he continued to progress as a musician the more time went on. We lost a great one for sure 👍
@@SINCITYJ Yes, we did. You honor him here.
My son did some work for a charity Chris Cornell was involved with and was invited back stage to meet him after a concert. He has a photo with him, their arms around one another. He said Chris was as down to earth and genuine person as he'd ever met. The photo is a treasure now, of course, as are the memories, which are now bittersweet. What a loss to the world.

Chris Cornell was a musical genius. I've been a fan of his voice since temple of the dog. You can hear and feel the pain he feels when singing this song. Rest in peace to a truly iconic musician
This is 1 example where the cover is better than the original by that I mean he made it his song and imo that's how the cover becomes better than the original
He was a hero to me as well. Kinda like R.E.M. saved people in their pain. Chris did to me too. I still cry to some on soungarden songs because he sings his pain.

I was supposed to see him with Soundgarden at Rock on the Range. He passed away just a few days before the show. I couldn't even go that night after I heard the news. I went to the rest of the days for Korn and Metallica. But I couldn't bring myself to go Friday (the day Soundgarden was supposed to play). It wouldn't have been the same.

I don't think they are comparing them musically but since they were close friends and went out the same way they are always going to be connected.
"No one sings like you anymore"
You know who misses them more? Their wives and kids, you know, the people left to pick up the broken pieces they left behind by taking the way easy way out?
@@jonathanrandall4140 it's not 'the easy way out'. Depression is not easy, suicide is not easy. It's battling a war in your head every day, hoping you'll survive but not seeing a way how to... until that illness becomes too much to carry. I'm not going to say 'I hope you understand that' because the only way to understand depression is to experience that, and I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy- but I do hope that you understand you don't know what they were going through, and thus can't judge them.

You make an excellent, reasoned argument, most of which I agree with.
As a child of depressed, alcoholic, narcissistic parents, I can sympathise more with Chris Cornell and Chester Bennington's families. In my opinion, once you have a child, you live for them (in most part).
I believe suicide, in these instances, IS the"easy way out". Much easier than repairing yourself and making amends to those you hurt.
Thanks for your thoughtful reply.

Unfortunately his wife is proving to be too greedy for that. It upsets me because she just doesn't seem to get the collaboration of a band and they have just as much right to the music (if not more) than her and his estate! @April 2520 Wow, you are just discovering him! Lucky you, you are in for a treat! Enjoy. I recommend Chris's acoustic, solo stuff. He toured on his own later in life and played his songs from Soundgarden, Temple of the Dog, Audioslave, and his own solo records. He also did a lot of great covers, like this one. A lot of depth to his lyrics, and a lot of emotion in his voice. Unfortunately the pain got the better of him.
