What always drove me crazy about the episode where Carrie's shoes got stolen at the baby shower is that her friends with kids were RICH. They likely owned their apartment and were actively talking about having a second home in the Hamptons and going out to Nick & Toni's - a very expensive Hamptons restaurant. The idea that they would not pay her back because the shoes were SO expensive at $485 is insane and an outright lie. Sure, the shoes were pricey, but her "friend" clearly had the money for everything else and just didn't want to do the right thing for Carrie.

You're totally right! It doesn't make sense that Carrie's pretty well-off friends wouldn't chip in to replace her stolen shoes. They could afford fancy stuff like expensive dinners and second homes, so saying the shoes were too pricey doesn't add up. It seems like they just didn't want to do the right thing, or frankly, even liked Carrie.

That episode made me angry when I watched it as a teenager and it still makes me angry today. Just because you wouldn't spend that much money on an item doesn't mean you shouldn't replace it

If you think about it, the rich friend resented Carrie because she was a single woman with no kids. As you can imagine this was her reasoning behind resenting Carrie’s lifestyle. It has something to do with the reality that she can no longer relate to it or “afford” it: Because being committed to a husband and three kids at the time was obviously something that Carrie does not have to deal with. This is why I believe she didn’t want to pay for the shoes because beneath it all- she was no longer the Manolo Blahnik girl.

You overestimate rich New York people. A lot of them do not care about doing the “right thing,” just what benefits them.

When I was a pre-teen, watching mtv and the Oscars, I used to think there is a special secret shoe manufacturer for these women, who makes the high heels extremely comfortable and soft, lol. In my 10 y.o head, they'd be able to walk around in all those high heel shoes all day, being all comfortable. Years went by and I started wearing heels in my teens. No, they were never comfortable or soft, but the dream about the ultimate pair never left my mind. When SATC was first aired in my country I was in my early 20's and a student. My student job was in a shoe retail store and I've tried every pair there. No, no shoes that would make me shoe obsessed like Miss Bradshaw here. Ok, I've just haven't found the right pair yet I thought.
Finally, my mid 30's, It became possible for me to buy myself a pair of Choos without having to sell a kidney. I've tried them on and it was the single most uncomfortable shoe ever! Like torture level. So I took them back and bought myself some nice sheets and lingerie. Never dreamed of designer shoes again and it is my strong belief they hate women, and feet, and women's feet! 😂

What a journey you've had with shoes! It's funny how our perceptions of high heels change over time. I can totally relate to that childhood belief in a magical, ultra-comfortable shoe manufacturer! And your experience mirrors that of many who dream of owning those iconic designer heels, only to find out they're not exactly a dream to wear. It sounds like you made a wise choice investing in something more practical and comfortable. Who needs designer shoes when you can have luxurious sheets and lingerie, right? Thanks for sharing your hilarious and relatable story! 😄👠

Some women have feet that prefer the heels and some cant stand it. Good that you found something that brings you much more Joy and comfort than high heels.

The way shoe manufacturers and designers make shoes is decidedly aesthetic. They're actually terrible for our foot health. The toe boxes are so narrow they cause bunions and heels can lead to other foot deformities and weak ankles. Shoes, mostly, are not made to actually ergonomically fit a human foot for their health🥴😩

I felt like the stolen shoes said a lot about the ‘friend.’ Like ‘I come over to celebrate you and yours and one of YOUR PEOPLE stole from me’ Seriously, tf?!
Why didn’t she ask around? You know who was in your house…then balk when Carrie is like nah girl I’m getting my shit back in some way, shape or form.

you're totally right! the fact that Kyra, Carrie's friend, didn't do more to help find the stolen shoes seems really off. I think Kyra was secretly jealous of Carrie's lifestyle choices and probably really frustrated with her own life and released that whole anger and frustration on Carrie

When my mom was in her thirties she watched the sex and the city every night while it was on tv. I wasn’t allowed to watch it cause I was only like 4 or 5 years old back then. But when my mom went to the kitchen to crab snacks, I went and hid behind the sofa and watched it with her secretly (although I kind of know that she probably knew 😅). Anyways my mom will be 60 next year and because she loves shoes, I had an idea to gift her those Manolos so that once in her life she could have the shoes that Carrie did. I think it would be nice😊
Have to find a better job maybe 😅

I think it didn't fit the political climate of the time. The late 90s and 00s were the time were pop feminism widely meant, women don't need anything from men or they are gold diggers, as women were still trying to prove they can in fact be independent. I suppose the writers thought it would be too controversial.

I know it's out of topic but one of my favourite styles is Samantha's in season 1.
If you rewatch the breakfast scenes she often wears sneakers and when I noticed it took me by surprise because I always remember Samantha as we know her in later seasons (wearing luxury brands).
I will always love first season style. 👠

Small note at 9:27, but Big and Carrie were not engaged when they started apartment hunting. It was after he said that he “got it” in reference to the dream apartment that Miranda mentioned that the apartment would belong only to him and not Carrie. Then Carrie brought it up to him and they got engaged. Otherwise, great video 😊

hi, thanks for pointing that out! You're absolutely right about the timeline. I just saw the Galliano documentary, so I perked up at that detail about the dress Carrie ends up marrying Big in - showing how you can actually believe his designs are vintage from their craft, and also his rare but stunning wedding dresses made for close friends. The Vivian Westwood gown is obviously to die for, but I forgot about the sheer elegance of Galliano’s Dior 🤍
