- Lost In Space. Jupiter 2 comes in for one of their typical landings but avoids the usual crash.

Gotta say it, to thus day, John Williams’s scoring the landing and take offs of the Jupiter II was the COOLEST THING EVER!!! Even modern CGI in the “Lost in Space” revival can’t touch the orchestra swell as the shop glides thru space with the rotating, blinking lights🤗
I loved Lost in Space but would have liked more take offs and landings of the Jupiter 2 in the series. It's such a cool spaceship.
Originally the Gemini 12 was never supposed to fly after the original crash landing. That's why pilot seats were never part of the original upper deck.
Yes it was I was creative as a kid when I tried to build one for play
the special effects were too expensive
and doing episodes entirely inside the Jupiter II was too boring - have to interact with someone besides the crew to have a plot/story line
Exactly just recycle footage of landings and take offs wherever you are and just edit them so they appear like whatever planet you are on that week. Maybe film like two or three landings/take offs and use for entire show.
I don't know how long it took me to first realize that the takeoffs were just the crash landings in reverse but it was still great.
I liked watching Lost in Space as a kid but wanted to see less camp and more space. It seemed the Jupiter II was always on a planet and hardly in space.
The premise of the show was "Swiss family Robinson in space", just surviving on the one alien planet.
It was a monster/alien of the week show. But they did do the green lady in space.
It was all budget driven. Probably cost a lot to film the space effects back then. I noticed they also reuse the landing sequence a number of times though out the series. Same rocks and landscape. I still love the show almost as much as when I was a kid.
Top-notch miniature effects, especially for a limited budget in the mid-1960s.
"Get this thing on the ground! Batman wants these computers back!"
You know with the movie and the reboot.
Just stick with the original show
Every time she went down like that I always feared this might be the crash she wouldn't survive. She must have been well built.
Nice job! Really enjoyed that.
Me too
I'm showing my age (and probably my "preferences"), but June Lockhart was a smoking babe in that tight silver spacesuit back in those days......
only 41years old
@@mickfizz1 Back in those days, she was phenomenal for a woman that age! (Neither I nor most of my friends at school had mothers who looked anything like that!) She had a lovely speaking voice, too.
@@clauderobotham6261 yes i agree
Hot in those poptart space suits lol
Oh, yeah, I remember thinking she kept up with her 2 "daughters" pretty well for a mom.
Forgot the landing gear.
nope..'' hard landing''
That was good. Nicely done. Keep it up you guys, you’re doing terrific.❤️
That was different.... I like! 😃
They flew into different time zones, I see.
Great job!!!!! Love the Jupiter 2 crash landing even as a kid ,you even got the GIANT in there that was really cool. 🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗
Beautifully done.
One of "Crash Dons" safe landings!! Huzzah!
I bet aliens are saying "Crap, we violated the prime directive. These people created TV shows that show our ship design."
Dr.Smith violated every directive. Prime or otherwise.
The best effect of the whole series
I keep looking for the wire, but I never saw it.
OH the good old days before digital effects!
Those weren't the good old days believe me. But in this rare sequence they managed to pull it off. They managed to keep in from bobbing around like a flimsy toy.
Season 3 - when the Jupiter 2 actually flew - and Penny became hot.
dear, sweet Penny, oh the pain.
A good thing to since there wasn't a whole lot of thinking going on. Notice how the females were all clueless in the original, but all geniuses in the remake? Except Judy.
they never really learned how to land very well
did they?
They probably cut corners with landing training as they would only need to do it once and likely by autopilot upon reaching Alpha Centauri.
they landed with the gear down a few times
once on Earth around 1930 something....
@@kenwittlief255 1947, hence the beginning of the spate of UFO 'sightings' in the US. Eh, it fits in with our history, sort of, though they landed in Michigan, not Roswell. 🙄🙄🙄
The thing had landing legs that only got used now and then.
I like how the ship has landers on it, but when it lands it always seems to dig a hole to land in.
0:42 the giant watching the Jupiter crashing is cool
crunchy on the outside, soft and chewy on the inside
LOL
@@m_hub3957😅
The way they landed that ship is like RV owners constantly backing their trailers into trees.
And when Irwin Allen was working on this project, he would film various scenes like one in B/W and in color, because he already knew that he was going to change it over the color, if you remember when the first season started out black/ white
And most of the footage we see of the Jupiter 2 coming in for a landing here is the "color version" of what we see in black and white as the first crash landing in season 1! Allen sure made his dollars stretch!
@@mirozen_ Had to make those dollars stretch. Not as much budget to work with meant working harder with what they had and look at the results it got! Bravo!
The used a wire for that shot. Not too shabby for 1960s special effect.
Same footage of the original crash landing. It was a good sequence, I guess I don't blame them for reusing it again and again
Proof is in the pudding that season one was shot in color just broadcast in black-and-white.
I could never work out how the bottom half always ended up under ground :-)
This thing is like the Tardis. Much of it doesnt make sense dimensions-wise but the whole things still fascinates me.
I always wondered how they didnt totally waste that rotating structure on the bottom with all those crash landings...and you cant exactly go to a home depot, radio shack or autozone for parts either
It was the 1960s. Cut them some slack.
Controlled landing much?
I think all of their landings were crash landings. Just like SpaceX Starship.
I always wanted to ask this question in the 3rd season why was John Robinson in the pilots seat where major west always sat what they do change the ignition switch lol
John Robinson was a geologist. He knew nothing about flying a spaceship!
Also Guy Williams made demands to continue in the role in season 3 (he was unhappy with the show)and one of them was he demanded a close up in every episode. I'm not making this up.
@@The_Jupiter2_Mission Presumably there would have been some cross-training in case Major West had a cold. Evein Will flys the ship in one episode in the third season. And the ship was designed to fly autonomously after all.
@@The_Jupiter2_Mission I don't blame him, season 2 was awful. 3 had some pretty good storylines though.
Much better than what was actually seen on the TV show!
Never understood why that ship always had to crash land
GOOD TIMES. VERY VERY GOOD TIMES. I WATCHED IT ON TV A LONG TIME AGO.
The ship fly very good. Hope they have a safe landing. Renee
Love those landing sequences!
Danger Will Robson danger
Robinson! The Robot was the star of the show along with Dr. Smith and his insults. 😂
The crash sequence for its time holds up all these years. Still quite impressive and compelling.
100% agree! the visuals and Sounds of that ship coming in over that rocky terrain is epic!
Quite Excellent!
The LIS special effects team created what I consider THE greatest effect in that ship crash in the history of both movies and television....and not a bluescreen or computer was used
The music made it frightening!! 😱
John Williams. Love it as a kid and still love it today. The brass section was the clue the monster was coming.
Can you try to get the first season on DVD because I found seasons 2 and 3?
You gotta LOVE that the designers of the Jupiter 2 had enough foresight to include a little compartment & seat (with folding accordion door!) for when they were joined by "Debbie the Bloop"!!
''thats a thrilling bit of news ''
Awesome 👍🇳🇿
Now THAT was a NICE landing!
But it landed on its belly?
@@krane15 Yup. It landed on it's belly, no landing gear required. lol
Did you notice it landed on a flat area of land, but when you see the other side with the door (hatch) the dirt was up to the base of it as if the ship sunk into the dirt a bit.
When I was little I watched this show, and it really thrilled me to no end. I enjoyed the off world adventure and the girls Penny and Judy were cute I thought, plus a robot that had skills.
I Lovr to see it land.😘😊.
The Jupiter II is Wild
It has Advanced Propulsion
It's Incredible
Why was the cyclops monster from the Pilot Episode in this landing on a different planet 3 years later?!
Lax immigration laws.
No, that was his twin brother. I get them mixed up too.
very clever editing here David .. were is the long crash landing sequence that you did ?
Remind me what was it?
@@The_Jupiter2_Mission ... much of season three footage of many approaches all combined with dialogue at times included. from visit to a hostile planet and flight into the future etc etc
@@mickfizz1 Likely The Complete Adventures Of The Jupiter 2. A crude old one.I need to redo it with HD images and re-scored. Worth revisiting
@@The_Jupiter2_Mission yes please..'' do more '' .... love the ''direct angle of descent'' .. too
Would'nt landing on the Power Core wreck it ?. Looks a bit rough to me.
In episode 1 of season 2, they take off as the planet explodes. One explosion nearly blew the power core off. You can see it flopping for an instant as the ship moves across the screen.
Great compilation. And it works well together, too. That shot at 00:52 was from the recent re-staged recreation wasn't it?
The landing of the Jupiter 2 is reversed in regards to the thumbnail.
They were Lost in Space yet for 90% of the show they were stuck on that stupid planet.
Every time the Jupiter two took off, you didn’t know if it was gonna make it and every time it landed it crashed.
I guess the Jupiter 2 hadn't had its landing legs installed yet. 😁
The landing legs, as you call them, were seen in episode two. That was the episode when they landed inside a giant spacecraft and Dr Smith used his laser gun on some alien life-forms that chased them all back to the ship.
Cannot land on them in motion like that. Only a gently controlled landing would work.
Actually, they did. But they were on the other model.
I a big group fans would get together and do lost in space continues , like what was done for Star Trek continues would love it . instead of just leaving them stranded on a junk planet
Need LIS back, with better CGI, less infantile plots AND with the same - please! - the same retro look! ... The SAME Jupiter 2! - with the same feel for a cozy and cuddly Winnebago-like ride with family and friends through the galaxy! ... NOT the PC-Lectures through Space and a creepy thermostat-looking Jupiter 2 of the recent Netflix series!
I agree. Keep it both retro and current (it can be done if the writers are sharp enough). Keep Smith a man but he decides to be helpful at some point so the family doesnt kill him. We saw whispers of this in my friend, mr. Nobody but then Smith became a mincing ponce fairly quickly.
@@nunyabizness6595 How was he helpful in that episode? His idiotic avarice nearly resulted in the death of everyone. If I'm missing something from the plot, please, refresh my memory.
No CGI, please!
i loved the pirate episode...he has a robot parrot...so cool:):)
Special effect sound when vanishing.
Dr Robinson landed that ship like a butterfly with sore feet!
How did u create that close up scene at 53 ?I don’t think I’ve ever seen that
It is an outtake clip on the bluray edition of the series. I reversed the clip.
Amazing
They sure sucked at landing that thing. Next time extend the legs.
Meh, there's no talking carrot to greet them.
I recognize that same stone tower.
Very nice, I like it very much.
What, they landed on the same planet??

I always thought that Robinson being the in charge of the entire mission, played more of the pilot of the Jupiter more than west did
In the original pilot episode, both West and Maureen were PhD scientists.
About time Maj. West & Dr. Robinson learned how to fly and land the fucking J2 craft WITHOUT crashing it.
Jeez-Louise, Mal & crew on the 'Firefly' series had way more problems with their 'Serenity' ship than these lost '60s folks. Obviously better training and better technology. ... ;--/)
Good luck 🎆✋
Non working astrogator - this never gets old - I would run home from school to watch this ship land and take off!
I don’t remember the chimp at all.
They found Debbie in season 1, episode 3.
Well that was dramatic
I always loved that music cue that played at the end of this! 🎵
Marvelous! Thank you
I always thought that Mark Goddard was one of the most handsome actors. Love his voice, too. Wish I had both to make women swoon.
Saudades!!!
Wait was that Godzilla?
The Giant that Will shot with a laser in season 1, episode 4 has made an encore appearance.
@@warrenhoffman2006I remember I was stoned and making a joke
Loused in Space.
Major West was the worst pilot in the universe - as I recall, he only managed to 'land' the Jupiter 2 on its landing gear twice - all the other times he crashed it - it's a cruel world.
LJ Da Silva, That contention is really BS. He could hardly be held responsible for the crashes on Preplanus or the 2nd season planet (I don't think they ever gave it a name). Both of them were Smith's doing, by way of sabotage and hysterical mania which led him to f**king up what would have likely been a stable orbit. If you can cite any instance that West's abilities as a pilot were genuinely shown to be at fault, it would be quite interesting.
Hated this show!
You hated the show but felt the need to post that hate on on a video about the show? wtf?
Why are you here?
