  • Part 1. A re-imagining of the first automated test flight of the Jupiter 2 from the original 1965 TV show "Lost in Space."
    Set in the year 2097 at the Alpha Control Shipyards on Jupiter's moon, Callisto. The ship's systems are tested during a shakedown flight before the spacecraft is sent to Earth to pick up the Robinson Family a week later. The Jupiter 2 is the first in a series of ships designed to take families from Earth to the new colony planet in orbit around Alpha Centauri.
    This video shows the launch, attainment of escape velocity from Callisto, the deployment of the ship's sensors and engagement of the navigational systems. Part 2 will take a look at the ship's passenger compartment and feature the most famous crew member, Robot B9.
    All models, animation, original texture mapping & editing by me. Sound FX are modified from the show. Royalty-free music from AudioMicro, since FOX hates any use of their own music, even if it's fair use.... All models created entirely with 3ds MAX. Compiled with AfterEffects & Audacity. EDIT: UA-cam CLAIMS THE MUSIC IS "TEXTURE" BY HEXAGRAM. THAT IS NOT TRUE. The tracks are named "Taklamakan" and "Arctic Voices." IT IS ROYALTY-FREE MUSIC from AUDIO-MICRO.
    Recognition must be given to Art Creber and Robert Kinoshita, the original designers of the Jupiter 2 and the Robot, and many of the props in the show. A sincere thank you for giving us a means by which our imaginations can run free.

    I’ve always loved the series, even though my mother wouldn’t let me stay up to watch it. I had to wait until it was in syndication in the 70’s, and I was a bit older. It was always my guilty pleasure that I kept to myself since everyone I knew loved Star Trek. I always wanted to be Will Robinson and have all his adventures. Many years later when I was in my early 20’s, I was working at a high end restaurant in the mid west. My employer told me one day his brother in law was coming into town, and would be coming in for dinner that night. I asked what he was in town for, and was told “some kind of convention or something”. “He was an actor when he was a child, you might have heard of him. He was on “Lost in Space”. I thought I was going to pass out. I asked “do you mean Billy Mumy?”, “yes, but he goes by Bill now”. I couldn’t believe it. After years of wanting to be this character, I was going to meet him. I not only met him, but got to know him somewhat. He was always charming, polite, and from then on, whenever he was in town, would ask for me when visiting the restaurant. It was a thrill to know him for the few years I was working for his brother in law. He was always very thoughtful, and kind to me. It’s one of the funnier things that happened in my life, and I’ll always pinch myself over it.

It is a testament to the enduring charm of the original TV show and the passion of the fans. I hope I've captured just a little bit of the fantastic design sensibilities of Robert Kinoshita (the designer of the Jupiter 2 and the mighty c57D from Forbidden Planet) I haven't posted new work in a while but there is more to come! :)

    Hi Everyone! I'm frankly astonished that this little video now has more than a half-million views. I created it 10 years ago on a Lenovo laptop, using 3ds MAX as the modeling program, Photoshop to create all the texture maps, Audacity to edit the royalty-free music, and AfterEffects to assemble the animation clips into the final movie. Sincere thanks to everyone who has commented! There really is more to come. I have completed a vastly more detailed 3d model of the entire ship, including the entire lower deck, right down to every button and light. Many still images of this model can be seen at the Lost in Space forum on Proboards.com, and also at Scifi-Meshes.com (where a complete history of the model-making progress is documented in the thread "A New Jupiter 2 that makes sense").

    Dear Haselius00:
    I turn 64 in July, 2021. And, l first saw Irwin Allen's "Lost in Space," all three seasons, all those decades ago, as a young boy. However, this is the first time l have viewed and heard the actual takeoff noise, and engine? emissions of the Jupiter 2 in your presentation.
    Man, what a beautiful craft i.e., disc, in all its glory. Did Irwin Allen know what he created with Lost in Space? Personally, l feel the takeoff noise from its propulsion engine(s)? should have been markably louder. And this includes it's emissions, if any too.
    For example a gross loaded F-111 at takeoff power: max.mil.power, will give you an idea of "Loud noise." I expect the same from the Jupiter 2. No less.
    What a gal. Keep her flying.
    Lastly, about 11 yeàrs ( 2009/2010 ) ago, l bought my young nephew, Joshua, my brother's younger son, he was about 7, a DVD boxed set of all three seasons of "Lost in Space." Man. And, my parting words to Joshua were: this TV Space Show will send you to the stars. Enjoy.
    The music to the opening credits of Season 3, in my biased, humble opinion, blast the opening theme credits of Season 1 and 2 out of this galaxy! Further than Alpha Centauri could be.
    This begs the question:"Why was'nt a movie made of it. I refer only to the 1960's TV show ( Not this recent jump start, retread of a movie ).
    Thank you.
    End.
    .

    I remember because "Lost in Space " was on Wednesday night and my mom was a big fan so I always missed the first part of "Batman ". I still went and saw the movie w/bill hurt and Matt le blanc. Gary oldman is "Dr.Smith" . I also watched the new show, but haven't seen it all

    The remake series of "Lost in Space" should have learnt how the series could have been better - I did not like the remake series at all. Even if they digitized the characters - it would have been better in my opinion..

    Brilliant piece of work! I didn't mind not having the original music in this and rather enjoyed the music you did use. Some of it reminds me of the music that was used in the unaired pilot (which was grabbed from 'The Day The Earth Stood Still'). The texturing and attention to detail is superb! It still retains the flavor of the old show, but is brought up to the present. Can't wait to see more!

The lower deck virtual tour is my dream come true! It is precise to every detail! I always wanted to "get down there" and really see it up close! The elevator test? I chuckle at the radiation hazard sign since Callisto being deep inside Jupiter's Van Allen belt is itself a major radiation hazard. ;)

    • @Inflec
      @Inflec 3 роки тому +1

      Actually, according to a video about Callisto, it is the most hospitable of Jupiter's moons as it has the largest orbit of all four Galilean satellites, placing it outside of Jupiter's radiation belts. Io, Europa, and Ganymede have much higher radiation. So Callisto really is the most viable moon to establish a settlement in the vicinity of Jupiter.

    • @fmlazar
      @fmlazar 3 роки тому +2

      @@Inflec On the rear side of Jupiter, it's magnetosphere is blown all the way out to Saturn's orbit. So it might not be that safe on the night side. Doesn't take away from the fact that the video is one heck of an execution.

    Great Job! If was possible travel into a time tunnel, and return to 1966 (47 years ago) with current technology this could be how the Jupter II should be launched and the whole serie could be more realistic, it was so naive.
