Totally agree. The special effects are great and that score is legendary. When I was a kid, I put a tape recorder by the TV to record the music and then acted out my own Lost in Space scenes with the recorded music on in the background.
I was a 10 year old back in 1965, watching with wide-eyed wonderment at this incredible sequence on a 19 inch BW tv. The shots of the Jupiter II swooping over the alien landscape. The oh-so-cool engine sounds. The music. I was totally blown-away! It still amazes me today all these years later.
I was also 10 and yes, I felt the same emotion over this show. There was nothing else quite like it. I only wish they had kept the integrity of the first season throughout the series.

Phenomenal special effects to think this was 1964 and TV so the budget was a lot less than a movie just amazing what they can do and it still holds up today against computer generated stuff
Timeless sci-fi . The cast and the robot... The interior shots imply that the Jupiter 2 is bigger than the exterior shots show. June Lockhart ,a Goddess of science fiction especially in that silver outfit and the girls... beautiful....! And of course the B9 robot and The Chariot just phenomenal...!

Over the last 3 years, re-watching the show for the first time in decades, on DVD, I was repeatedly surprised by JUST HOW GOOD an actor Jonathan Harris could be, with the right material. At some point, Irwin Allen gave him free rein to write his own dialogue-- which means, I'm pretty sure-- he ALSO wrote the Robot's dialogue-- and note, the Robot ALWAYS got the best lines in any episode, once he developed a human personality. (Smith was the "Abbott" to the Robot's "Costello" in that comedy duo.) But I REALLY wish someone had, from time to time, told Harris "NO" when he went TOO FAR.

@Chuck Mos yea me too. I am 60. I remember watching it on a small black and white TV. I was so in love with the Jupiter 2, I took 24 photos the ship scenes on the TV. So excited, I went to the drug store to pick up the photos and it was 24 pictures of the tv with no picture visible. I was a crushed little boy 😂

Do you ever think about how the planet was blown up at the start of season 2? That girl who was a princess and all her people in suspended animation for thousands of years, all dead. That was brutal.
Isn't it amazing how Don's use of the freezing tube caused the cockpit chairs to disappear. (in order of course to transit to the Gemini 12 footage :) Note the shallower lower hull in the exterior views which did not have room for a lower deck.

It drove me crazy that the door to the launch bay opened straight up instead of sideways. That means the door would have gone through the ceiling and outside the hull. And how is it that the launch bay was on the upper deck when the pod exited from the lower deck? And in the episode "Space Creature," they descended a ladder from the lower deck to reach the power core. What was that, a third deck? Oh, no, it was just the Batcave.

And in the episode "2 weeks in space" ( I think?)...Will actually had the head room to stand up inside his closet to hide from the pursuing aliens...remember??...between decks 1 and 2...great up close shot of his boots tho ....I really wanted a pair when I was a kid!!!!
Great video. I'm old enough to remember when the series was originally aired. I would have killed for a toy or model of the Jupiter 2. Never understood why they never marketed it. Every kid wished they had one.
I searched far and wide for this as well..... no toy model available to anyone back then....even wrote to the local newspaper for help in finding a toy model of the Jupiter 2...no response sadly for a disappointed 10 yr old!!

In Australia it would drive me crazy in the early 79’s...that I could walk into any toy-store and buy a ..tri phaser...and ..enterprise model.But if I ever asked where I could get a..L.I.S Laser..pistol..rifle..Jupiter 2 model..robot...there were just crickets...yet I watched the show every Sunday night..prime time..from 1969.. up until...74....the best vid clip by the way.Thank You for posting....plus I wanted..a force-field..space pod..robot..silver suit....I could never decide which..laser..weapon I preferred the best...all of them.I see on ..the net you can buy..laser replica weapons...NOW..I’m ready for a full power..rifle..so I can blast some lumber mills ⚡️✌️ (early 1970’s )

This was a great special effects scene for its time. But with a limited budget they often reused this scene, played in reverse, to show the Jupiter 2 blasting off from a planet 😉
I like the effect with the retro rockets and thrusters seen on the exterior Maureen closes the view port crash doors as Don enters the freezing tube moments before the crash. While it would detract from the point of view, would be interested if the main view point shutter panels closed at the last few seconds before the crash.
the main view shutters were closed on only one episode I can think of. Not sure which one. It may have been the Crush Kill Destroy Android episode? As he tries to smash the cosmium steel hatch
@@gkprivate433 It's possible the view port crash door might have been closed in Revolt Of The Androids. I'd need to go back see the DVD set I have. They were closed in "Deadliest Of The Species" West energized the force field, and then closed the crash doors.

This musical score & engine sound effects to this show was so great. I had the privilege of meeting Mark Goddard in the 90's and he was the nicest guy. I wish they stayed serious and did not go the campy root. As a child I loved this show.

I love the crash-landing, however it should be pointed out to whoever presented this on UA-cam, that the rockets didn't fire at all, that's causing the crash, so it actually took away of editing this video so it looks like the rockets did fire!
Nothing pissed me off more as a kid because they never made the Jupiter 2 as a model!!!I never understood why!!!! Yet ST toys and models up the ying yang. Awesome Crash landing sequence ! Hands down the BEST scifi spaceship crash in TV History!!! I finally did get my model as an adult!! The chrome edition woohoo!! lol
I also love the scene right before, when Don holds Smith hostage and forces him to order the robot back. "Robot go back to your compartment." Then puts smith into the freeze.
Honestly I didn't notice any difference between the original episode which I saw and this SFX enhanced version. It looks and sounds just like the way I remembered it from years ago. I read the description after watching the video.
I really love the first season of Lost In Space. It was much much darker, grittier and more science fiction than the Power Rangers level show it became with Dr. Smith as the de facto lead.
I used a bottle cap and "flew" it behind the tinsel on my Christmas tree to simulate when the Jupiter went through a radiation storm. The show had its share of silly moments after the first season, but it had some great moments for a child with an active imagination.
Neither Smith nor the Robot were in the original pilot. The network execs thought the series needed an antagonist, and so Smith was added. Jonathan Harris said in an interview that he slipped in comedic moments and Irwin Allen liked it. Then the show just went campy trying to emulate Batman, which had high ratings at the time. The show was basically ruined by that, as was "The Man from U.N.C.L.E.," which did the same thing. Very sad, I think.
@@clauderobotham6261 another Irwin Allen show Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea had a rather good first season with decent story lines. After that it seemed every episode involved some sea monster trying to sink Seaview, or the crew being turned into mutants. They could have done so much more with it.
@@Sherwoody Yes. The first season of Voyage was intelligent and dealt with themes like espionage and brainwashing. By the fourth season, they had a number of goofy episodes like the one with Vincent Price and the puppets.
I'm a very big fan of lost in space love the crash scene major west did a good job taking charge of the ship and the family until they found john Robinson alive and well no thanks to dr Smith. 😃😃😃
Trivia, Jonathan Harris suffered from extreme claustrophobia. If you closely notice his fingers are touching the inside of the tube. He did this to calm himself during this scene.
I wish it would have stayed serious versus the campy silliness format it quickly devolved into via Jonathan Harris. I'll never understand why Irwin Allen permitted the format to change.
The Crash of the Jupiter 2 Is Legendary ..... It's Television History ..... The only other Spaceship Crash On Television or at the Movies that rivals the Jupiter Crash Is the Planetary Crash of The Starship Enterprise Saucer Section onto a Planet In the First Star Trek The Next Generation Film, in 1994. And even the Crash of the Starship Voyager in 1998 onto a Planet in Television Was a Shocker. .. I think Time Travel was involved with the Crash of the Starship Voyager onto an Ice Planet . Seeing the Legendary Ship Come out of the Sky And Crash at Hundreds of Miles an Hour and Slide Onto a Snow and Ice Covered Field And Narrowly Miss the Ice and Snow Covered Mountains of the Ice Planet Was a Shocker and a piece of Television History ..

This musical score & engine sound effects to this show was so great. I had the privilege of meeting Mark Goddard in the 90's and he was the nicest guy. I wish they stayed serious and did not go the campy root. As a child I loved this show.

wow great editing of ship in space from season two and three put with this 3rd episode from season one, Lost in space as a scifi seems so real compared to todays stuff....
June Lockhart and Mark Goddard had good chemistry acting in this Jupiter 2 crash landing, I believe this is the episode that earned Ms. Lockhart her Emmy nomination?
I love the crash-landing, however it should be pointed out to whoever presented this on UA-cam, that the rockets didn't fire at all, that's causing the crash, so it actually took away of editing this video so it looks like the rockets did fire!
Nothing pissed me off more as a kid because they never made the Jupiter 2 as a model!!!I never understood why!!!! Yet ST toys and models up the ying yang. Awesome Crash landing sequence ! Hands down the BEST scifi spaceship crash in TV History!!! I finally did get my model as an adult!! The chrome edition woohoo!! lol

When I was a kid and watched this I always wanted to join them on the Jupiter 2
They did a great job filming this miniature J2 descending from space to the planet surface Still like it in B/W
I also love the scene right before, when Don holds Smith hostage and forces him to order the robot back. "Robot go back to your compartment." Then puts smith into the freeze.
The 97 film and recent years TV reboot just do not measure up to the original. RIP Mark Goddard.

This is great but I kinda miss the canary bird sounding effects in the background as the ship is crashing.
Honestly I didn't notice any difference between the original episode which I saw and this SFX enhanced version. It looks and sounds just like the way I remembered it from years ago. I read the description after watching the video.

I really love the first season of Lost In Space. It was much much darker, grittier and more science fiction than the Power Rangers level show it became with Dr. Smith as the de facto lead.
LOL I practiced that crash scene with my frisbee every day as a kid
I used a bottle cap and "flew" it behind the tinsel on my Christmas tree to simulate when the Jupiter went through a radiation storm. The show had its share of silly moments after the first season, but it had some great moments for a child with an active imagination.

I wonder how the direction of the show would have gone without Smith. It might have evolved into a more serious show.
Neither Smith nor the Robot were in the original pilot. The network execs thought the series needed an antagonist, and so Smith was added. Jonathan Harris said in an interview that he slipped in comedic moments and Irwin Allen liked it. Then the show just went campy trying to emulate Batman, which had high ratings at the time. The show was basically ruined by that, as was "The Man from U.N.C.L.E.," which did the same thing. Very sad, I think.
@@clauderobotham6261 another Irwin Allen show Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea had a rather good first season with decent story lines. After that it seemed every episode involved some sea monster trying to sink Seaview, or the crew being turned into mutants. They could have done so much more with it.
@@Sherwoody Yes. The first season of Voyage was intelligent and dealt with themes like espionage and brainwashing. By the fourth season, they had a number of goofy episodes like the one with Vincent Price and the puppets.

I'm a very big fan of lost in space love the crash scene major west did a good job taking charge of the ship and the family until they found john Robinson alive and well no thanks to dr Smith. 😃😃😃
Trivia, Jonathan Harris suffered from extreme claustrophobia. If you closely notice his fingers are touching the inside of the tube. He did this to calm himself during this scene.

I wish it would have stayed serious versus the campy silliness format it quickly devolved into via Jonathan Harris. I'll never understand why Irwin Allen permitted the format to change.
Always made me laugh that when the Jupiter 2 took off from planet's , it was the crash scene's in reverse.
So him and Deeanna Troy went to the same Saucer Crashing School!
I noticed some shows had the j2 burried others had it gear down. The latter was more believable.

Although much of LIS was scientifically inaccurate, I enjoyed it anyway ( as only a preadolescent kid can )
