As always I appreciate your time and thanks for watching.
Great information.. While I enjoy videos that are more directed at how a knife looks, the action, the prestige out of pocket (wow factor), there is nothing that replaces cutting data in my opinion. I think of a knife as a blade with whatever variations someone uses to open/close or present the product, but when it comes down to it it's a blade. For cutting importance only, I'd say it's about 60% blade, 30% handle ergonomics, and 10% for everything else combined. Your data based testing is my favorite starting point on steel composition, treatment, and geometry. Thank you, Jim
Nice! Looking forward to the top 5 favorite steels video
Man that full size Adamas is big. I have the mini and i love it! I probably will change the angle on mine too. The coating coming off don't bother me. I like the used look.. Thanks for the testing👍
I feel bad about the wear, any way to reapply the coating?
Tell that to Lyn Thompson that 3.75 inch is the big blade for you lol
Im very happy with the performance and ease of sharpening on my cruwear mini
Take care G
Sounds like some pretty good results! Thanks for the info G!!
You're welcome, thanks for watching JB.
I love my mini o. I’m a lineman and that’s my all day. I skin wire with it both copper and aluminum. Open packaging. Cut plastic riser. Cut off all kinds of stuff. I don’t use it for a pry bar but almost. Sharpens right back to shave in about 20 seconds on a ceramic and gets used the next day. Love it. Probably my favorite work knife I’ve ever had.
Mini adamas?
@@BumphreyHogart yes
I know this video is pretty old, but I have the mini adamas and I have it laid back to 15 degrees per side and polished to a hazy mirror and I have never been more impressed with any steel. I used it to Jimmy a lock at my job, which is blatant abuse. There was very little edge damage and it stropped back to sticky sharp. I also used it to cut open bags of salt and not a speck of rust. The same salt bags spotted an s35vn kizer with less use. For a non stainless cruwear holds up great for me
What did you use to sharpen your mini adamas?
@@pcxdrone well worn dmt diafolds up to extra extra fine and then stropped on 3,1,.25 and.1 micron diamond compound on leather
I am quite skeptical about steel claims coming from Chinese manufacturers. Please take it with a grain of salt and I don’t mean to say all manufacturers from China will be dishonest. I believe honest test, use , and experience from the community would help us with informed reviews to avoid such shady model products.
...Yep. I bought a Kizer fixed blade in S35vn : completely unimpressed.
About 1/8" of the cutting edge broke off. Extremely chippy.
Fu♤k China made.
Cast your $ ballot with " USA MADE " , because every purchase is an election.
@cubancigarman2687 1000% I have kizer in '3v' and it preforms like a low grade d2 knife.... it's more than likely d2
Great video without all the nonsense stuff you usually see in these reviews. And all the information I needed that for me. Will help me buy a knife I want to use.
I'm glad you liked it, thanks for watching.
Loved your review man. The pacing was great. I can’t decide between the full and mini.
Great video I always love your test! I have that same exact knife and the cru-wear pm2. I love cru-wear it also is one of my favorite steel out right now!
I'm glad Cruwear is finally catching on in large scale. Very happy to see it in regular production offerings.
Can't wait for this one while I'm flicking the Mini Adamas🤙🏽Thanks Man
You're welcome
I just bought one of the full size auto Adamas knives. I really like it but for one thing. The release button is really hard to activate with my right thumb. That is to say on the right side of the knife. Now when I use both the thumb and the finger at the same time it is very easy to activate. So by that I mean using both sides of the activation button at the same time, top and bottom as I hold it. I am hoping that will smooth out with use. I may put some of my shotgun grease in the parts that catch and release to see if that helps.
Great test, I appreciate the work. Also, I love your Pug. They’re awesome little companions.
Thank you
I bought 2 of the Mini’s and after I tested the black one I sent it off to get reground and I also swapped the thumbstuds because the cone shaped ones hurt my thumb
If the outer edge was rounded over that cone thumb stud would be nice.
Who did you send it to for regrind?
@@optimuscrime608 I sent my Benchmade to BGM Knives www.bgmknives.com/
I've just come across the video. I was interested in buying an Adamas, but reading some of the comments, I think I'll just stick to my fixed blade Hogue knives. Mine are not used to cut paper or boxes but if hell goes to a handbasket while working I cannot have a critical failure. Thus Hogue, fixed blade and they are excellent knives.
Thanks for sharing and keep up the great work!
Much love from Switzerland
The Manix 2 is, IMO, the best EDC knife out there. Fits the bill in every aspect for a badass rugged carry!
I noticed what you said about the AD 15 carrying like a normal knife. I have carried mine in shorts and dress pants with out any issues. The AD 15 carries great. I was looking for a deep carry clip. I'm going to leave the OEM clip on the knife. Thanks again for the video 😎👍
Same here. Normally i don’t go for large heavy folders but the ad15 does carry pretty well for the size/weight.
That's a great point on balance of weight in the pocket being so dependant on clip style. I've never seen anyone else comment on that which is strange since its such a huge factor.
My XM-24 with the stock clip carries better than my Ti scaled Manix 2 with a deep carry clip, and my XM-18 carries just fine in basketball shorts because of how well thought out clip position is on the model overall.
Those are some great results from both knives. Benchmade has had their issues in the past, but on the whole their heat treating is pretty great.
Looking forward to seeing the numbers for custom Cruwear!
I love that steel to the point I've bought 2 knives from a Benchmade. I wish i could have a fixed bushcraft as well
Lot of work! Appreciate it.
Thanks for the Great info! 👍👊
You're welcome
I've got this exact same knife and let me tell you, from my experience sharpening it once I laid the edge back a bit I put a mirror polished edge on it and it was nice and all but not as sticky as my cruwear exclusive para3 but then I went and resharpened it with a tootsies edge and man oh man is it scary now! They do seem to like a toothy edge though for sure!
What’s a tootsies edge?
Yeah.... what's a tootsies edge?
The adamas is friggin awesome though, the tip is a bit too chunky for me so the shaman is the sexy middle ground in my opinion
I feel like people complaining about a six ounce knife is laughable. Carry 2 lbs of gun and ammo and ANY pocket knife is pretty unnoticed in comparison
Thank you, I am looking forward to that steel video 👍
You're welcome
Why do you show yiur wrist in between cuts?
Testing the haur shaving to see when fine edge is done
I heard these were so sharp, if you cut yourself you won't feel it. the only time you'll know is if you see blood, or the blood goes icky. I had a friend who had a spyderco crew wear blade Like one in video. and they had no idea till they felt the blood go sticky.
I’ve got both the full size and mini with Cru Wear and am actually considering buying the auto… I’m a diehard Adamas fan…
Fixed blade adamas with aftermarket scales 🤤
Thank you for the excellent and informative video. I'm new to sharpening pocket knives. I have a RAZORSHARP knife sharpener. Do you recommend whetstone sharpening over RAZORSHARP?
I personally would not use that style sharpener. For basic to mid tier steels a King K80 would be a great place to start. Being new to sharpening you have all the options open to you. All have some type of learning curve and I did a few videos showing other ways to use a bench stone and keep your angle while you learn. Once you have it down a few different grit diamond plates will sharpen anything and you will already have the process down.
@@Outpost_76 Thank you very much for your reaponse. I look forward to learning. Enjoy the rest of your weekend.
What pocket clip are you thinking about putting on the Adamas?
The standard BM clip and if I don't like that one the split arrow has always worked well for me.
Thanks for these tests. How you liking the para 3 rex 45? A few weeks ago said you would be trying it out again.
I'm going to use a Rex 45 Manix next. I'm still carrying Cruwear so I haven't changed my mind on Rex 45.
@@Outpost_76 awesome thanks, im new not sure if mentioned before, what is your preference para 3 vs manix 2?
Thanks for the video 😎👍
You're welcome
Hi. If you don't mind me asking, what system do you use for your sharpening?
I use the KME for all the test sharpening with the few exceptions I've done freehand.
I've looked at both coatings and the black coating seams more ruff but may stay on better.?
That I can't say
Whoeee! Gonna gave to get one of these!
It's a good one for sure.
I really wanna see the comparison between Manix 2 and Mini Adamas.
I may pick one up to see how it compares. I think it would be smaller than I like.
Did you test the hardness of this adamas?
I haven't yet, I will get around to it and put it in a hardness video.
Great video! Do you have any thoughts on micron diamond versus cbn stropping? I use diamond lapping pastes with good results and have some powdered 2 micron diamond coming tomorrow. I'm going to try and make my own spray emulsion for a strop.
You have to be careful on what liquid you use. It has something to do with polarity. I’d contact “Gunny’s sharp talk” to ask what to use. As far as diamond vs CBN, they’re practically the same. The biggest difference is poly-diamond vs regular diamond. Under magnification poly diamonds looks like gravel (sharp, irregular, angular) and the regular mono diamond are like river stones (smoother, like a rounded down cube)
Not all diamond or cbn is created equal. So many variations. Overall cbn is more expensive and diamonds can't be used in high speed or high heat operation like cbn can. Pretty large topic that is more for a discussion on a forum where you'll likely find a lot more info on.
What is the numbering on the spyderco blade ??
The 074v
It's a collector club number. The 74 is the person's number and the V is a variant of the original.
@@Outpost_76 thsnks
the mini vs the manix 2 would seem to be a much better comparo
It probably is but the mini isn't one I wanted due to its size.
Would like to see a favorite knives video. Thanks for all the info
I've thought about doing one of those as well.
Crazy.
You have a year update review?
Not currently but I will have a whole video about multiple Cruwear knives including this one soon.
Try some spine whacks on that Adamas or some light buttoning in soft pine lol they certainly screwed up a great platform by taking steel off behind the pivot where it holds the knife open...
I'm going to do some more testing type stuff so I don't want to spoil it.
That manix was a Knifecenter exclusive with smooth black g10...that's not carbon fiber. I'm sure you probably realised that afterwards.
This is the 2014 sprint run Manix that had gray diamond pattern g10. I acquired it with carbon fiber from an S90V/ cpm154 Manix and pit the smooth g10 on a while back. I do have the KC smooth cf Cruwear Manix as well as the KC smooth g10 Cruwear Manix.
@@Outpost_76 oh I see
Now I actually own both of these I have a KW ex para3 cru and the mini Adamas cru, also have an unused manix KW ex like this one but I was wondering how they would fair up against say a bark river in cruwear 🤷♂️🤔 always wondered how well Stewart does his heat treat and if it is any better than a reg production knife seeing how his are a bit closer to a custom being handmade and all...
Take a look at what Roman found with some BRK M4. Good hardness at the spine but around 10 points softer at the apex. Is that a one time thing I don't know. If someone has one I can teat I will but I won't be buying one myself.
Bottom line no matter what knife you get yur getting a great steel that'll last a long time. I chose the adamas bcuz I needed the toughness. I use it for alot for fishing and hunting.
what do you use to sharpen them?
Unless I note that I've done one for a test freehand all testing is done with edges from a KME using diamond plates.
Great vid sir, feel much better buying this blade! Terrific work. 🇺🇸
You're welcome and thank you.
3:08 "Like the video please"
Why no DLC finish for adamas tho :(
How long did you record your slicing test? I couldn’t stand watching all that for so long. Goodbye
Wtf is he talking about? Total length of his strokes to sharpen?
Total feet of cardboard cut before it gets too dull.
I prefer my shaman Z WEAR
I know many like the Shaman. Just too many things I don't like about it to take it over the Manix or Adamas.
Dude I really wanna get this information but Holy hell you put a lot of words in your video that don't need to be there. It was painful listening to you explaining everything so slowly
Benchmade coatings don’t last at all. Idk what they do differently but they are all weak. I love the knives but hate the coating.
I'll never buy another Benchmade, regardless of any results. They lost my trust a long time ago.
Going around youtube and telling the world what products you won't buy seems like a fun hobby
@@CNYKnifeNerd thanks
@T.J. H Benchmade are not great knives. I don't want poorly heat treated steel with burnt edges, axis locks that break, off center blades and poor qc. Plus the massive map pricing added to them that vendors requested. Na I'm good. This usa company needs to do better to earn my dollars.
@T.J. H no shit Sherlock. I told them straight to their face they are a budget brand posing as a high end brand.
@T.J. H lol I'm not angry
First! (Again)
