@@ZPositive I would love this Manix 2 LW "Compression Lock" design as well, only *with* liners, exactly like the Sage 5 Lightweight w/ Compression Lock. That would be the "Ultimate Lightweight" in their entire LW series. The liners don't add much weight at all & you get a much more sturdy construction at the cost of one ounce, *maybe* . I value carrying my Sage5 Lightweight over my Para3 Lightweight for this very reason & the weight is hardly noticeable in pocket or in hand.. unless you literally hold both of them but it's miniscule.
Glad to see the screws over pivots in the manix! Between this and the Military 2 spyderco’s been making good changes that the community’s wanted for over a decade.
Agree, except they went away from SPY27 in this new "screw construction" model. I'm not, at least not yet, a knife "guru" so I don't know the benefits of the new steel but I'd done enough hearing reviews to be excited about the SPY27 (plus I liked the aqua color making it easy to see where/when I set the knife down on a cluttered work surface)
I got the manix 2 lw in spy27 for 80 at the pawn shop last year. First Spyderco I bought. I bought it with the intent as a later gift for my dad because he said he found a spyderco when homeless and it stayed sharp forever. Probably just a vg10 one but he doesn't like to spend a lot on knives so I decided I would buy it. I want to get the Spyderco endura in k390 though for myself
Finally. Should have been from the inception. I love all my Manix knives. Being a lefty I find its just about the perfect EDC for me. Love to see more Manix 2 Sprints. 😛 .
Wow. Thanks for all the knowledge sir. All other manix videos can go back to their boards. This is it. Its like if you put into words what I felt using the ball bearing for the first time. I couldnt describe it but I knew that was the most solid, well engineered, piece of master craftmanship I could afford. And it was very similarly priced to axis locks with much cheaper build overall. I am extremely pleased with my manix 2 full liners original black satin g10. It only gets better with time and it breaks it. 0 play. The s30v is wow sharp, feels good and extremely precisely treated/crafted. You have to compare blades in real time to truely understand it. Go to a shop and flick em' all. You'll buy a colorado spyderco. If you can afford even the entry models. 10x more worth it than a civivi/kizer/china blade. Barely the price of 2 knives. Benchmade is good but you pay 2 manix 2 to get a griptilian sheepfoot with solid scales. Not worth it. Im more of a flipper/button type, have been forever. But the spyderco hole is just there to stay. They need to expand their ball bearing lines. I would instantly buy a smaller model. If they can pull it on weights. I think for the ball bearing you need more heft to your click so to speak. Heavier metals can help. Hell i wouldnt care if it was stiff. Its the lock quality of the balls we like.
Every single damn question I could think of and two I didn’t even think of! I knew I wanted a spyderco, knew I wanted the manix 2, now I know which one I want. Thank you!
Can the owners of the old rivets models get sets of torx/posts that we need to do what other models have been doing for years? Possibly for a discounted price??? You’ll make a good amount on such a kit!
I am actually giving away several of my other knives this Christmas because I am finding I only carry a few out of my collection among them being my Delica, Shaman, PM2 and Spy27 LW Manix 2. Other then a Benchmade 940, full TI Kershaw Highball Xl and TI Artisan small Arion, all of my spyders made the cut which is impressive to me considering I had knives from Civivi to Cold steel and all but the listed didnt make the cut.
The Manix 2 light weight in CTS BD1 was my first Spyderco, I got it about 10 years ago. I saw a Nutnfancy review on it and was hooked on Spyderco after that. I now have over 20 Spydercos, and slowly adding more. I actually carried that original one today. I also have a GITD Manix 2 XL, a few other light weights, and one G10 version. This is a great knife for left-handers too. Other than the pocket clip, the opening hole and the lock are completely ambidextrous. Of course the clip can be flipped in a matter of seconds making it completely left hand friendly. This design is definitely a win, I have the translucent blue lightweight in BD1N and the blue G-10 in S110V. The lightweight is my work knife since it’s cheaper and the G-10 version is more for on-the-town carry.
I own 2 of the LW models with screw construction. One in CPM S110V and one in Rex 45. My absolute favorite knives. So light and ergonomic with great steel.
Thanks for the vid. About time for the screw together . Now lets get a lighter spring. I'm not weak and the spring is ridiculous. The manix is an awesome knife but way to stiff spring.
First time hearing this... When "hanging" 40' up in a tree, I don't want to have ANY difficulty opening a knife especially with my non-dominant hand... (Rarely use a knife trimming or topping a tree, but ya never know!)
Ok I’m back . Got a third one of these in rex45 from GPknives and it’s so darn good . Even the frn is ok on this one adding to the lightweight design and ergos for a light weight in pocket but packing a big punch if necessary . Just need to offer the Manix 2 LW in K390. I own 6 back locks in K390, along with a plethora of other Spyderco knives, but would love to see K390 move into regular production in models other than the back locks as I feel it has the best combination of edge retention and toughness of all the tool steels currently available.
It appears to me that Blade HQ has a screw together version on their website. It’s the black-out version with CTS-BD1N steel. All the others appear to have rivets still.
Yes, I picked one up in February. I didn't even know it was going to be the new model but I noticed that it was screw together when it came in the mail. I'm looking into getting a Flytanium ball cage lock, and some black screws to make it look a little nicer.
I bought a manix 2 lightweight salt version from knife center. Cpm magnacut and good hardware to match. I'm really excited to see how it perfoms when I i get it.
Interesting history lesson. BTW, the original Manix 2 LW did not have a screw-together pivot pin; I still own one. The pivot pin is not removable or adjustable.
Exactly. The whole thing was "pinned" and also, the very first ones were *not* Full Flat Ground, thet were Saber Ground. I have an original Saber Grind in s30v and then a "translucent blue" BD-1 LW.

A lot of interesting information. I was unaware that SPY27 was derived from VG10. I wish he had gone into the performance differences between the two. I do know the edge retention is better on SPY27.
Bought 2 all black screw together construction versions and both came with the scales cracked out of the box. Only time I’ve had an issue out of around 120 Spyderco knives I’ve purchased over the last 3 years.
I've had a maxamet lw for years and don't really carry it for a number of reasons, mostly maxamet rusts when you look at it and on my personal knife the action and detent are very stiff and unserviceable/un-tuneable. I may shoot spyderco an email and see if they could convert my knife to screws, then I could put it in rotation.
Great idea. I'm in the process of returning a Benchmade Presidio 2 for the Manic 2 LW, but now you've got me worried about it's ease of opening, too! THAT was my issue with the Presidio 2 - very difficult to open & close left handed... I have XL hands but the handle seems a bit too long for my (uncoordinated?) left hand.
Spy27 = PM-VG10... I had no idea, thanks for the insight. Everyone always compares it to the standard S30V/S35VN/S45VN, never knew VG-10 was the base for it
Quick question, are the two injection molded handle halves for the screwed construction model the same parts as the injection molded halves for the riveted construction model? I know those rivets have a very small OD, and I'd guess you need larger holes in the FRN/FRCP to accommodate 4-40 hardware.
Based on homebrew conversions I've seen folks upgrading their own Manixen from peened to screwed hardware: I'd wager you're correct, likely different scales to accommodate the larger diameter screw attachment.
@@randystrand908 You can yes ! There's even a "conversion kit" that was sold in the USA for it. In Europe it's just hard to find things that aren't in metrics system format lol
Good talk really. My one ok two issues with the manix are the relief of the ball cage it really needs 2mm more height. When wet the lock becomes a two handed lock. Also please strive to get one hande actuation. Second issue g10 models have too aggressive jimping.
Greetings I'm in Mexico and have had a vast Spyderco collection through out the years. The Manix 2 Maxamet is one of my favorite plataforms but I really want to change the hamdle material. Can I buy g10 handles and hardware so that I can swap scales and hardware?
Can you swap scales now? Having a hard time finding out if you can swap scales with screw construction now and if so which scales will work with the lightweight version.
So here's my question, can I switch my riveted manix 2 LW to screws over the frankly aweful idea of rivits? It would be really great to be able to clean the thing when it gets gritty or hell even change the scales or ball lock housing if I so choose.
You can only change the scales on the g-10 models. The handle of lightweights are the structure of the knife because there's no liners. Converting a riveted LW to screws would be difficult, as most of the parts would have to be swapped out, as 2 of the screws go in to the spacer that holds the ball lock, so that would have to be swapped for a threaded spacer, and with the way the handle has been restructured to allow screws, you'd have to swap handle halves and basically be putting the blade and the ball lock housing in an entirely different knife.
Screw construction is a recognition that knife people like to tinker and play with their knives, kind of like gun people, imagine that. And maybe eventually NOW that Spyderco recognized that about their clientele, the flimsy excuse of "we don't encourage amateur knife construction" as a response for a request for a replacement blade for a chipped blade on your Spyderco Nilakka, which had various people addressing that particular issue would have more thought and consideration. Not to mention an opportunity to make money and effect a resolution with the end of having a happy customer(s). @@barkingspider2007 Sorry, not quite- I just checked again and they showed a Native 5 lightweight 15V but said it would be expanding to other models as well.
Is there are reason why Allied Weapons Technologies scales fit the regular Manix 2 but do not fit the Manix 2 Lightweight? Are the internals that different?
Not trusting the average consumer to be able to disassemble and reassemble a plastic Manix seems like a completely fair decision, to me. Besides, if you really want one apart it's not hard at all to do. The fact that so many people couldn't work that out kinda proves my first point.
Dear CNYKnifeNut, if that's true, why aren't they assembling ALL their knives with rivets? In fact, The Government should step in and Make all US manufacturers assemble with RIVETS.
I still haven't gotten a Spyderco yet because I find that it is impossible to get the model I want without having to modify it. With so many different blades and handles why don't you just let us custom choose the blade and handles?

They just announced a 15V lightweight! I have the G10 15V as well and love it
@@gjr1974 Manix 2 LW in 15v?
@@barkingspider2007 Sorry, not quite- I just checked again and they showed a Native 5 lightweight 15V but said it would be expanding to other models as well.
Good, Thx
I'd happily pay 10 bucks more for a steel bearing cage as standard. It would just feel more secure long term than plastic.
Is there are reason why Allied Weapons Technologies scales fit the regular Manix 2 but do not fit the Manix 2 Lightweight? Are the internals that different?
Please bring back the magnacut mule team
'leader in the industry using exotic blade steels,' yeah you are.
The LW should of been screwed together from the beginning
Not trusting the average consumer to be able to disassemble and reassemble a plastic Manix seems like a completely fair decision, to me.
Besides, if you really want one apart it's not hard at all to do. The fact that so many people couldn't work that out kinda proves my first point.
@@CNYKnifeNerd Thankfully there are disassembly videos on UA-cam for most of the popular knives nowadays.
Dear CNYKnifeNut, if that's true, why aren't they assembling ALL their knives with rivets? In fact, The Government should step in and Make all US manufacturers assemble with RIVETS.
I just ordered one not realizing it was riveted… most ive spent on a knife so far. Joy..
Should offer a trade in for Screw models from factory.
Manix 2 LW is the GOAT.
Ooh we need an Ultem version to show off the lock mechanism in its full glory😂
Can the lightweight versions be blade swapped into the g10 ones?
Mini Manix please!!!! Although the size is good, the lil native just doesn’t do it for me. I want a thinner blade with the ball lock! Please!
Now i really gotta get a manix 🤣
Great in-depth info but the intro and outro is uncomfortably louder than the rest of the video.
I want a hollow grind manix again!
Now add the Salt with a MagnaCut blade and screw together construction and you have a sweet knife 😊
i wish they'd give the Native 5 all the different steel choices the Manix 2 gets
I still haven't gotten a Spyderco yet because I find that it is impossible to get the model I want without having to modify it.
With so many different blades and handles why don't you just let us custom choose the blade and handles?
Lil' Manix would be a beautiful thing
