OMG sootch00, you just kept me from pulling my hair out. Put about 150 rounds through my brand new response. Decided to clean it up and went back to the range today but the bolt wouldn't latch in the open position on the last round. Was baffled and kinda worried. Came home and broke it down and for the life of me couldn't figure out how the bolt latch was supposed to operate. UNTIL, I noticed in your video that the transfer follower piece could fall out. Well, it fell out last night and bounced across the floor and landed in the bottom of a tool box. The room is a little cleaner now as it took me like an hour to find it.
Thanks so much for your awesome videos.😁
Good news, standard AR charging handles will work with the Response. S&W's website also states that standard AR stocks, grips, triggers, charging handle and safety will also work.
To confirm - a Radian Raptor charging handle will not fit on the Response ? Thank you for the video
Any possibility to do a side by side comparison with the JR Carbine and the Ruger Carbine with the Response all in 9mm?
👍🏼
Hello I've got just two questions how often do you think this should be cleaned and can you swap the safety switch for a left and I'm definitely interested in one of these thanks 🇺🇸
How’s this different from the S&W 9mm folding pistol?
one is not an ar and this one is ...
Great review as always! I always look forward to your reviews, sir.
Thanks again for all your time and work!
Thanks Ryan! I appreciate it Brother~
Always a good idea to have a 9mm rifle.
Unless you have don't use 9mm😢
Im with Clint Smith, use a full power rifle cartridge, leave pistol ammunition in handguns.
But Id rather my fellow americans have 1,000,0000 PCCs than no gun at all!
Well good for you.@@channeellll7623
I have been training LEOs, Mil, Bail Enforcement, NRA, State Cert, written a training manual for States for over 50 years. If you own a 9mm pistol, having a 9mm rifle is a good idea. No reply needed, I'm done. @@wbrennan2253
I’d rather buy an M&P 15 sport for that money. Can’t have too many Ar-15’s.
Unless you are in Ma. In MA, this is a good option. AR will cost you 2k easy.
This is a great review that gets into a lot of unique parts and details not covered in any others I've seen. Thanks!
Thanks for watching!
I like my Beretta CX4 (takes Beretta 92 9mm mags). The Response will be nice when it offers a full menu of mag wells. It would make a great SHTF gun, as it could take all the popular magazines. Very versatile! Thanks, Sootch!!!
Unk!!!! Tell Smith and Wesson for crying out loud to make a performance center version of this in 10 mm!! Please. Nice review.
I second that please...
Great vid, would love to have the handgrip hold a spare mag, seems like an easy upgrade
That’s a very good idea actually. Good point.
Yeah, that would have been a solid option. Thanks Squatch
Great idea!!
Checked one out but price point of $799 was too much
Checking the prices ..it just got released and it's already selling at $699 at most places online.

indeed

Great review 👍
Weight reduction to 6lbs is pretty significant. My all metal AR9 with a Faxon bolt and barrel, Anderson lower, lightweight hand guard and 4.5oz buffer is 7.2lbs.
Just don't know if losing 1lb is worth all that polymer. Certainly lowered S&W's production costs I'm sure
S&W should re-introduce their 327 Federal Magnum revolvers
I think that they should reintroduce their classic pistols line, like the 5906.
@@joaopedrobaggio4475 😂
How often do you say this? I could swear I've seen a few different videos where you commented this. 🤔
@@30rdmaga I have never made that comment before
What's funny is I was looking at some Taurus revolvers in 327 yesterday after seeing your earlier comment. We'll see how it goes 👍
Nice review,, but I am not impressed.
I like the concept of an AR-9 and really like the interchangeable mag well. Bring it in at $500-$600 then you have a viable competitor to the KelTec. But….step away from the injection molding machine. While an AR-15 takes the hit in the chamber, a blowback AR-9 takes the hit in the upper. The upper and hammer are going to wear out fast. The entire thing will grenade if the pin holding the bolt together fails. Finally, they missed the entire reason that we buy an AR platform. So we can change out parts to make it your own custom hot rod. This can’t be done with the proprietary parts they used. Excellent concept with poor execution in weird places. S&W needs one less accountant and one more engineer.
As an engineer, thank you for understanding these choices aren't our fault.....
I live in the suburbs having a pcc can really help with over penetration with the proper ammo. Great video Don.
9mm penetrates more than 556
@@kodykernan6917since when?

@@Kiefy6886 since forever. Watch literally any drywall penetration test. 556 fragments, 9mm retains shape and punches through farther

Whats not to like , S&W hit a home run as this is a cool 9mm carbine and one of the best features of this carbine is price , you can spend more and get less however as time move foward we get innovation in a modern package. Personally I went with H&K USC 45ACP I like a lot and both have polymer frames for weight reduction and well built interior parts , Now this S&W brings a lot to the table in a budget friendly package that I certainly would enjoy. I really like my H.K. but it comes mostly with bragging rights only, you still have to buy rails and dot if you want that on your carbine but the 45ACP is a commendable round and H.K. gives you accuracy with its heavy barrel configuration, The are several pistol caliber carbine's out there such as the Beretta Storm 9mm carbine a nice little fifle as well however The Response by S&W is a new idea and fresh modern engineering thats going to be a best seller in my opinion and a pistol caliber carbine is just plain fun and a great self defense go to. Thanks Don for an awesome review 🤜🤛🇺🇸💪😎
Man I wish our gun laws here in Ireland 🇮🇪 were more Free thanks Sootch 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
OMG I love this concept. We don't have Glocks but we have M&P pistols and Sig SauerP320, so I would hold out hope for those P320 mag attachments. Really, the M&P pistols are fantastic and I would probably only use those but were it not for the modularity of the P320 and since wet have invested in that as well I would love a PcC I could swap mags between either platform depending on my needs and the space I am working within. I have some concerns though about the heat and pressure tolerance of an all polymer receiver. I mean, is this thing going to melt or go soft under sustained use? What about pressure? could it handle +P and +P+ or ++P? You know people are going to shoot those out of something like this. Well, I love this idea and will be watching this closely for sure.
Some folks whine about plastic. This ain’t the plastic you use to package milk. This is polymer. Your car bumpers, probably your car fenders, are some sort of polymer. My Jeep is a 2015 / probably a polymer bumper. That bumper is still going strong. My M&P Shield and my M&P Shield Plus and my Ruger PC- all going strong. It’s time for you kids to put them 8 track tapes away and join in the the 21st century. .
I bought this gun a week ago and this video nailed my experience on the range.
One problem found is when I changed to the Glock mag well, I put a few rounds into a magpul 27 GL9 magazine. The follower on this magazine allows the bolt lock to activate with one round left in the magazine. A quick release will load that last round and it shoots.
I compared the magpul follower with a Glock mag and the Glock mag has a dimple for the transfer follower to fit until last round is fired.
I changed back to the S&W mag well and all is well again. I have lots of S&W magazines to use in this rifle.
Ar charging handles do work I have a radian in mine. Just testing it atm
Two problems if you live in Commiefornia . . . you don't get a regular grip (as shown), you get a fat ugly thing which extends your reach to the trigger. I put on a regular AR style pistol grip when in Nevada. then change it back before heading home. Second: you don't get the adjustable stock, it is a fixed version but if you are handy with tools, you can change it (which I do in Nevada) then for my state I change it back to where it is NOT adjustable. As a retired LEO with a CCW, I must keep everything on the up-and-ap.
Can you use 1st gen M+P mags? I live in MA so I have a bunch of neutered 10 rounders
I would love to see this S&W Response Carbine
in a side by side comparison against the
Freedom Ordinance FX-9 Carbine.
Ive seen other reviews thats confirm the charge handle is compatible with some other AR 15 charge handles as well as several other AR 15 components.
A military spec aluminum charging works in the response just fine.
People talk shit about Glock. But the fact that other gun companies make it compatible with their mags says it all. Glock runs the game.
Just needs a binary trigger and you’re all set haha 🎉
EDIT Hear me out what if this is the next step in fixed mag options in California? A removable magwell?
Good review as always but this is a hard pass for me.. Too much money for too much polymer... This past week I just ordered a WASR-9 AK which is all metal just like the standard WASR-10 and was only $415.00 __ Also the fact that a Ruger PC carbine can be had for around $500 and the Kel-Tec Sub 2000 can now be had for around $300
Cant find a Ruger PCC any cheaper, unless used, as the FPC. At least not in Iowa. Be Safe!
Glad you got what you liked, but these are 2 vastly different platforms.
that ruger is heavy tho and people buy $800 pistols made of polymer so it’s not too bad
21C plastic PCC, heavier than 1930s wood and steel M1 carbine in more powerful calibre.
I dont mind polymer, but man ... Thats alot of polymer..... Id rather get a freesom Ordinance FX9. Its around the same Price and its all metal construction and has free float barrel. Oh and yes it takes glock mags
I'd buy it hadn't I already bought their FPC 6 months ago. Now'd be great if they'd come out with an economy AR in 5.56 with similar polymer components but reasonable durability.
a folding 556 rifle like the fpc would be bad ass
I wouldn't mind a .45 acp version since I have a Beretta m9 and cx4 in 9mm but a Glock in .45
talking variation, the .357 could make use of the extra barrel length
A third hand would come in real handy for sure! I love the pistol caliber carbines. Mine I built myself. I put up a video about mine about a week ago.
I'll wait to see if it holds up. Too much plastic worries me.
Great review Sootch! They must have came out with this right when I bought my FPC, I knew nothing of it or would have waited to check this out. One thing you kind of touched on was the upper. I have been wanting to know if it had an aluminum liner tube in it or not, apparently not. I don’t know how this will wear over the long haul. Steel bolt sliding + heat ???? I don’t know. Let alone the flames and heat from the chamber gases flowing right on the plastic? I guess we will see. Can you remove the extractor retainer pin easily (like on the FPC) or is it a roll pin? Thanks for another great review!
He does not reply to his comments
Awesome S&W 9MM RIFLE THANKS FOR SHARING SOOTCH00
Recall the FPC reviewed, has a replaceable GLOCK Magazine block, so all your Glock 9mm magazines can be used with this foldable carbine. Nice Review. I think I will buy one of these kits with both magazine blocks included, $700. I believe the 9m ballistics with a 16.5" barrel increase muzzle velocity to about 1175 fps for quite a punch. if one loads hollow point amo, a Water Mellon totally EXPLODES. I have a silencer purchased, but the ATF is taking 12+ month to approve. I would like to see Smith & Wesson make a barrel and magazine conversion kit for their 5.7x28 amo used in their new pistol. with a 6" barrel the muzzle velocity is 2300fps, out of a 16" barrel the muzzle velocity could reack 3000fps !!
i like how you switch hats when you switch to the Glock mags!
There's only one problem with this rifle it doesn't really fit in a collection and the right place. If you're 1911 guy you're probably going to want to get the original street sweeper Tommy gun to go with your 45 1911. If you're a cowboy action guy you're probably going to want to get the Colt 45 repeater rifle to go with your cowboy collection set. Smith & Wesson should have made it as the folding Caribbean like they're FPC 9 mm so you could have had one in both calibers. IT JUST DOESN'T GO WITH ANYTHING, BUT IT DOES SPIT THOSE FREEDOM SEEDS OUT FAST ❤
QUESTION? How cheap can you go on some form of Night Vision and Infrared that works?
The price is okay. I would pay $700 for this 9mm carbine. Very nice rifle.
I have the FPC and love it. When I went to get a gun recently, I decided on the response. Similar to the M&P FPC but its like the AR and that's what I wanted, but decided to get this one because of the platform and the caliber. I have a lot more 9mm ammo so now I don't have to buy a different ammo for the AR itself.
Thanks for the video, Sootch00
I don't have a Glock or a S&W pistol. I do have the S&W AR15 Sport II. A great rifle.
Looks like it kicks hard for 9mm.
I think it's awesome. I have the Aero PCC in 9mm and it's so much fun to shoot and I like to shoot it in USPSA PCC class. Anyways, I like the similar manual of arms to an AR-15. The polymer is fine. Works for handguns... nice review.
Except that with polymer handguns, it's usually metal on metal as far as moving parts. I don't have much confidence when the bolt is moving on polymer. I would do like you and build an Aero PCC. How is yours working for you?
I noticed the Springfield Mastamped. When is the TN going to be stamped?!
I just got one of theses guns Friday last week haven't got to shoot it yet
Way more complicated mag well swap compared to the ruger!
Best video on this rifle yet
Nice review. Sweet gun. Is buffer tube also polymer?

@sootch00 any rumors if they will ever release this in 10mm?
Great review! I like that gun but I need that Smith& Wesson FPC in my life. 🔫
I prefer the Ruger PC Carbine 9mm Para
I agree. My Ruger seems like a much more durable and reliable firearm. I have the bone stock one that looks like a less threatening weapon.
@@williamhoppe4500 And it's remember me the M1 Carbine in 30 short, my father's gun in Algéria war in 1960
Hopefully they will come out with p320 & Beretta magwell adapters.
It's not new, it's a ruger pc copy. Change magwells
I’d love to see a comparison of the new TNW Aero LTE with the Smith and Wesson
Let's hope it works better than the FPC that blew apart in my face. Smith likes to beta test on the public. Where are ambi controls?
Another excellent review by Sootch00!
That firing pin spring seems like it came off a Bic pen.😅
Thanks Brother!
This looks like 5 different guns put together to make one.....
I still prefer the Sub2000.
The empty chamber flag can be used for the lower pins.
Great video. Thanks for covering the Response. That’s amazing that they sent it to you to keep. Wow.
Great video and thanks for sharing!
💯💯💯💯💯💯
Why is the barrel so long?
bless your heart
As always with you, excellent review. gonna look in to one.😊
Looks well designed. I'd add an A2 flash hider and aluminum receivers though. Then it'd be worth that amount.
THEN it would be worth that amount? It's the price of a S&W pistol but with more material. It's priced right for what it is.
Now that's a nice rifle 🙌🏽
Good review , glad to have watched it before I tear down mine . The chamber flag that came with it serves as a good pin punch by the way. 23:56
A different mag is NOT a different caliber!
Let me know when S&W makes this in 10mm. Basically, this current model in 9mm is merely a Glock on steroids.
once again, not 1 single person can explain what a 10mm can do that a much cleaper 9mm can't do.
@@ACommenterOnUA-cam At mid-range potential, the 10mm Auto produces energy higher than an average mainstream .357 Magnum. The 10mm is marketed for hunting, defensive, and tactical use and is one of the few semi-automatic, rimless cartridges that is legal for hunting white-tailed deer in many U.S. states. In military use, the government of Denmark has issued the Glock 20 to the Slædepatruljen Sirius (Sirius Sledge Patrol) headquartered in Daneborg, Northeast Greenland. The pistols were issued as a last resort defense against polar bears which the unit encounters during patrols. The 10mm is also effective in the case of a hostile encounter with North American grizzly bears. A 10mm has roughly 45 to 68 percent more kinetic energy than a 9mm depending on the loads used. Fired from a 4.6" barrel (such as the Glock 20), 10mm ammo (180 grain bullet weight) has a 1,250 fps muzzle velocity, with a muzzle energy is 624 ft lbs. The 9mm firing a 147-grain bullet (from a Glock 17) travels at 1,120 feet-per-second (fps) and produces 409 foot-pounds (ft.-lbs.) of energy at the muzzle. Fired from a 16" barreled carbine, the same 180 grain 10mm cartridge produces nearly 900 ft lbs of muzzle energy, while the 9mm only produces slightly more than 475 foot lbs at 1073 fps muzzle velocity. Any questions, holmes?
@@ACommenterOnUA-cam Ever venture into bear country, as in Montana or Alaska? Well, your little 9mm will only suffice to make the bear angrier if you use it on him for self-defense. On the other hand, a well placed shot with the 10mm will stop him. All depends on whether or not you want to be on the bear's menu, holmes.
@@fumble_brewski5410 Actually i work and live on Galt Ranch in Montana, its funny you ask and Yes i have taken down 2 black bears with my Liberty Civil Defense 9mm +P ..... it was attacking our 3 dogs and came after us. Took it down with 3 rounds.
Nobody on the ranch carry's anything over 9mm unless we are hunting.
Want to keep running your mouth about 9mm ??

Thanks. How does it compare to the S&W FPC?
this one is an AR build while fpc is NOT .... I own both and love both.

@@ACommenterOnUA-cam Whats that have to do with wanting a 5.7x28 one
Looks good for the money but I don’t need it, timing is everything in life. Thank you for your review!
Why all plastic? At that price they could have made it metal.
Gotta be lighter than my pc carbine. Lol
Great video
I'm too old for that to be easy.
BEAUTIFUL FIREARM 🏆🏆🏆
S&W has also stolen a lot of cool designs
Ease of take down for cleaning is what pushed me to this from Smith's FPC. (Adjustable stock from factory too)
Do I need this? Nope. Do I want one? Absolutely
there are a LOT of things that are not needed.
@sootch00 , Just got ours back from SAW. They have a safety recall. Possibility of discharge out of battery. Took almost 2 weeks to get it back. They changed out the bolt and put a heavy spring in it. Increased the recoil a little bit but it had min recoil to begin with. Pretty happy with the fire arm. Use it for self defense. I don't want a 556 going thru neighbor's walls so I got the 9mm PCC to save some grief if SHTF happens.
I would definitely grab their folding carbine before this any day.
Sweet Smith
Smith and Wesson response to what.? With the market already flooded with 9 mm uppers/PCC, what are they responding to? I guess more UA-cam foolery.
Big improvement over the S&W - FPC Carbine 9mm if you don't need the folding application of the FPC !
Bless you, Sootch, for your EXCELLENT reviews!!!
All the proprietary bits are why I don't like it. It's a 9mm rifle for a reasonable price, but I can't do what I want with it. I had the same issue with the 15/22 at first, but luckily a few aluminum charging handles eventually hit the aftermarket. I think if I get another 9mm, I'll just save the extra cash and go with CMMG. At least they don't cheap out and skip the flash hider lmao
