WTF? Yeah, I don't listen to CS, and I'm not sure why they dredged up this fossil of a song and put it in my recommended list. Not a bad song, but weird. I've gotten a lot of older song and things showing up in my list lately.

The, "Working Girl," closing credits version along with the post-9/11 USPS Holiday commercial version should be intertwined. The intertwined version should then be available, as a charity single, for COVID-19 relief causes.

Don't you miss the music of the 80's? It had such a joy and hopefulness to it! Even the sad songs had such feeling, such soul in it. There was a genuineness in it that is missing from so much of the music these days!

Always profoundly sad when I see an older movie with the Towers in the background. I remember the morning they were "hit" by planes. I was getting ready for a job interview, watching the news, when they showed the atrocity live. I thought it was "fake," because it just couldn't be real - looked like a movie scene it was THAT horrendous. I went to the job interview, actually got the job, don't remember why because I don't even know what my responses were to the questions they asked - I was just devastated by what I'd seen. Sorry, long answer to your question, but it always breaks my heart when I see an old movie with the Towers & all I "see" in my memory, are people jumping to their death from the Towers.

      @@marcelotortelli800 Not to nitpick but:
      1) it was helped that Grammy Award for Best Song Written for Visual Media category was only established in 1988. I believe many songs would have achieved that stat before if there was a separate category for film tracks at the time.
      2) this song won Golden Globe and Oscar in 1989 and Grammy in 1990 so not the same year.
      3) "The Way We Were", "Evergreen" and "You Light Up My Life" all won both Oscar and Golden Globe as well as a Grammy for Song of the Year each. "Evergreen" also won a Grammy for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance for Barbra Streisand.
      4) "Last Dance" won both Oscar and Golden Globe as well as a Grammy for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance for Donna Summer.
      5) both "Up Where We Belong" and "The Time of My Life" won both Oscar and Golden Globe as well as a Grammy for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals, for Jennifer Warnes with Joe Cocker and Bill Medley, respectively.
      6) "Flashdance... What a Feeling!" won both Oscar and Golden Globe as well as a Grammy for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance for Irene Cara.
So Carly Simon was actually far from the first one.

This song takes me to my Mom and Dad
Young, early twenties. Fresh out of Pedagogics School @ Xalapa, Mexico
They arrived at Mexico City just after WW2. With just a few possessions and
Very little money. Renting an apartment, working hard.
Elementary school teachers. Barely making ends meet.
Raising kids on love and values, and little else.
They gave me everything. I owe them the world.
Everything I’ve come to love and enjoy and appreciate, I owe to them.
Work hard, educate yourself and your kids.

This perfectly represents the zeitgeist of the era. It was when I was growing up. People really did move that fast back then. Mom putting on panty hose and shoulder pads while making breakfast. Dad wearing a suit and running out the door with his suitcase. People were really focused and energetic back then. Felt wholesome, capitalistic and forward thinking. Sad the kids today won’t experience that. Different times...
    Let the river run
Let all the dreamers wake the nation
    Come, the New Jerusalem
    Silver cities rise
The morning lights the streets that lead them
And sirens call them on with a song
    It's asking for the taking
    Trembling, shaking
    Oh, my heart is aching
    We're coming to the edge
    Running on the water
    Coming through the fog
    Your sons and daughters
    We the great and small
    Stand on a star
And blaze a trail of desire
    Through the darkening dawn
    It's asking for the taking
    Come run with me now
The sky is the colour of blue
    You've never even seen
In the eyes of your lover
    Oh, my heart is aching
    We're coming to the edge
    Running on the water
    Coming through the fog
    Your sons and daughters
    It's asking for the taking
    Trembling, shaking
    Oh, my heart is aching
    We're coming to the edge
    Running on the water
    Coming through the fog

Jay MacB I'm from Manchester in the North-West of England and agree with you regarding the range of dialects here in the UK! If I were to just walk three or four miles towards Oldham in Lancashire, even before there in Middleton, the accent is drastically different from where I am in Manchester. The UK must be unique in this sense. American accents are again, varied and many. It must be a similar feeling for an American, say from Washington State travelling to Nebraska or South Carolina - the accent, dialect and even the culture to a certain degree must seem alien. I also agree with you Jay MacB with regards to the south of England; although I don't mind the southerners, the way in which they say certain words is akin to finger nails on a blackboard, plus the fact that they genuinally not as friendly as us northerners - fact! I've visited enough to learn that this isn't a stereotype lol.
What can be said about Carly Simon? She is one of the most attractive and charismatic performers in history. She is also one of those artists that has never produced a bad record and in that sense is the gift that just keeps on giving! Talented, sexy, feminine, statuesque, highly-intelligent, personable and immensely charismatic......I could also be talking about the superb Sigourney Weaver here aswell - my favourite actress, who is 'yet' to receive an Academy Award! I find this quite stunning really. She was nominated for Gorillas In The Mist and Working Girl....but is yet to win one.
Anyway, great comment mate and you're spot on about Carly Simon's dress sense, she always appeared a classy bird......and her hair! Great, great hair!
      Chris (UK).

@@hugowilliams1988Now, people stay in their little "circle of friends" and most of the time, all you see is the top of their heads. It sickens me to the core to live in a society like this.
Back then, society was actually a people society if you know what I mean.
One would call a friend or friends and meet up and hang out together without phone distractions. All conversations were constantly interactive. I really miss all that. Those days have been destroyed with technology.
Don't get me wrong, technology is a very useful tool and comes in handy. Google maps is a good example of this.
It's when people allow technology to take over their lives to the point to where they become very disconnected by others around them. Now, every thing is time, money, time, money, time, money, time, money............ and extremely little social time left in most people's lives. There's something about this song that captures the 80s for me. A decade of hope and progress, but then maybe everyone feels like that as a teenager

Just having that conversation as I was reading the comments. It is hard to believe where we are now versus where we thought we’d be now. 😢

    Lyrics
    We're coming to the edge
    Running on the water
    Coming through the fog
    Your sons and daughters
    Let the river run
    Let all the dreamers
    Wake the nation
    Come, the New Jerusalem
    Silver cities rise
    The morning lights
    The streets that meet them
    And sirens call them on
    With a song
    It's asking for the taking
    Trembling, shaking
    Oh, my heart is aching
    We're coming to the edge
    Running on the water
    Coming through the fog
    Your sons and daughters
    We the great and small
    Stand on a star
And blaze a trail of desire
    Through the dark'ning dawn
    It's asking for the taking
    Come run with me now
The sky is the color of blue
    You've never even seen
In the eyes of your lover
    Oh, my heart is aching
    We're coming to the edge
    Running on the water
    Coming through the fog
    Your sons and daughters
    It's asking for the taking
    Trembling, shaking
    Oh, my heart is aching
    We're coming to the edge
    Running on the water
    Coming through the fog
    Your sons and daughters
Let the river run (let the river run)
Let all the dreamers (let all the dreamers)
Wake the nation (wake the nation)
    Come, the New Jerusalem

What a marvelous song, Carly! In these critical times It is taking on a mesmerizing pull for me. I look for "The New Jerusalem" where peace stand a chance. Thank you Carly.

Yes. I believe this song came from God and Carly was the channel through whom it came. We should all be looking for "another city" The multi -colored cube that hangs in space above the Earth called The New Jerusalem. The final city of God and home for all the Christians who truly worshipped the Lord in spirit and in truth. Anne Charette I hope to see you there. We'll all have new names and new bodies. No more crying, no more dying and no more pain. Just love, peace and joy.
