The days (1980s) when some people were still in denial about the devastating effects of chronic smoking on most chronic smokers and those around them. Had my own “Chariots of Fire” moment around 10 years ago. I used to run cross-country competitively in college. We had a stretch of naturally occurring trails that ran through various farms and towns in a valley area in upstate New York. Open land and crop fields as far as the eye could see. Anyway, a few of the boys and I ran on a section of trail that went through one of the farms. One that had horses, no less. About 4-5 of the horses ran with us for about 300-400 meters before they reached the boundary of the farm and we continued on the trail. It’s an unforgettable moment that I will take to my grave.
Absolutely beautiful blend of synthesizer and piano. Perfectly complimenting eachother. Brilliantly composed! When true talent existed. A long lost art.
Dear Vangelis, I just want to let you know, whenever your soul may be ascending to, is similar to what you left to us in this world. The burning tears that I had for my late father who passed away on January 12, 2020 is the very same as of May 17, 2022. I believe many also felt the same. You spoke of love, courage, sympathy, greatness and hope like no one else could. When it was and will be difficult, you were the father; friend; light; closer to God and to nature itself for every single heart that listened to you. And for that, I really do hope that heavens exist so we/I can thank you there. All that is left is to carry the blissful smile in honor of your existence that happened once in a lifetime. May your spirit of sound never rest and echo for eternities.
Even as an 11 year old kid I found this music, and film, inspirational. 40 years later nothing has changed apart from my knackered knees. Thanks for the memories Vangelis, you were truly one of the greats
Me too. I was 10 and just learning to play on my tiny Yamaha Portasound. Vangelis, Kraftwerk and so many more were huge influences on me and my music. I love cinematic tunes. You can hear a bit of it on my channel. I’m just an amateur though. ☺️

My oh! My. What a song! Timeless masterpiece. I've treasured this song for ages as a child then lost and forgot about it over time, only just to discover it again and have proper understanding of all it's worth...
I am interested to know where you were looking for a whole life
A brilliantly composed piece. Inspiring all of us to succeed, focus and see beyond all obstacles to achieve our goals!
Amen
Wouldn’t work for everyone, but I’m training to climb Aconcagua and Denali this summer. Every day I workout I listen to this song at least twice.
Well I appreciate it as a piece of music it doesn't inspire me to do anything though.

This guy. This score. He got me revved up for big games, races, exams, anything. He picked me up when I was down. He inspired and he soothed.
RIP legend.
We’ve never met, but I can tell we’re similar. Same. RIP Legend.
Legend and thief. Look up the song City of Violets.
You may think you’re cool but you will never be as cool as Vangelis smoking a cigarette after playing the first two notes of this masterpiece👍🏼
Morning jogs on the beach are not complete without this on your headphones! What an inspiration!
One of the best soundtracks he ever composed that won him an Oscar. There will never be another lime him. RIP Vangelis. You will be missed but not forgotten.
So sorry to hear of Vangelis' passing. A treasured childhood memory of mine is watching my brother practice this on the piano when I was barely tall enough to peer over the keyboard. I thought it was beautiful music even at that young age and have loved it all my life, and now my own children do, too. Was really cool to have a run along the beach this scene is from with the family several years ago when we were all in Scotland together. Thanks for all the music and memories, Vangelis.
This is the greatest comment I've ever seen
Vangelis catched the real spirit of the Olympic Games in this masterpiece.
Your comment is the best.
This song always makes me tear up, reminds me of going running with my dad…he was always so much faster, to try to keep up I used to hear this song in my head to push on a bit faster…Even when I couldn’t muster the energy!
This masterpiece is timeless! I will love it forever.
THIS THEME SONG IS STILL A TIMELESS CLASSIC AFTER 40 YEARS.
I didn't realise it was 40 years old...i was a grown man when this movie came out. Somehow you've made me feel old. 🤣😂

Don't smoke, people. It's the opposite you can do to run faster and longer.
Vangelis was a man who loved music and a genius at making it. Glory and grace fills his creations May he R.I.P.
He passed away but his music will keep him alive... RIP Vangelis...
I don't always smoke, but when I do, I play Chariots of Fire on the piano...
And that makes you the most interesting person in the world!
@@kimhorne9381 He just shared only his own feelings.. he did not say "it makes me very interesting" but you say..
@@hakanakinci4816 Hello! Thank you for your comment. I was not being mean to the poster, I was supporting their clever joke. Look up "The Most Interesting Man in the World Commercial “ here on UA-cam and watch some of the commercials. They are very funny and interesting. I was appreciating the poster’s humor and gave some of my own. You’ll understand once you see the commercials. Have a great weekend!

A mis 39 años le doy gracias a mi señor padre que me haya nombrado VANGELIS como uno de mis nombre de nacimiento.
This song brings back beautiful memories of my childhood.
RIP Vangeli, your music & art will forever be with us and even when we 're gone it will carry on in the depths of the cosmos.
Quite literally as he also wrote the theme to the Carl Sagan series - Cosmos!
RIP Vangelis!
Покойся с миром, Вангелис. Благодарю тебя за твоё творчество.
Looking for fame, fortune and glory in 1967, 2 musicians formed a group and started to find what they were looking for a bit later....Demis Rousos and Evangelos Odysseas Papathanassiou ....THE GREAT VANGELIS.
A very sad day for a truly original and most talented of musicians ,the world will miss this great man,R.I.P
Oh WOW! That has given me goose bumps. What a treasured memory. Best wishes from the UK. 🇬🇧
@@Whippy99 Thanks! It was incredible; haven’t had a moment like that since.

Absolutely beautiful blend of synthesizer and piano. Perfectly complimenting eachother. Brilliantly composed! When true talent existed. A long lost art.
The true olympic Spirit is in this absolute mastepiece❤
There's a new contender for Olympics with Epicarus "Quest for Gold" album, but Vangelis will always be the king ! What a masterpiece !
Dear Vangelis,
I just want to let you know, whenever your soul may be ascending to, is similar to what you left to us in this world.
@@final_mile_music9713 Same guy. I can't even remember how old I was when I first heard it. Heard it during the Olympics with mr bean and searched for it for weeks. My soul remembered the song.
That song will always be in my memory, because I am one of many who wanted to go to the Olympics and could not, for some reason or another, but I thank God and life for allowing me to observe the Olympics, maybe not this time I could, but I think that if there was another life or as I grow in my life, I could go or see someone I know, a family member at the Olympic Games, in any sport, today at almost 21 years old I don't want to think that one day I will be there I only leave it to God, and if he allows me with my effort I can be in another sport other than soccer, sad but also, that song moves me a lot, a hug and thank you Vangelis for this work of art, Greetings from Cali, Colombia
Das Auftrittslied von Henry Maske - einfach grandios ! Gänsehaut pur !
Rest in peace, Vangelis! One of the most influential composers who ever lived. May your memory be eternal!
