Honestly shocked this is the creator's 1st attempt at both game dev and animation, the animations just make it ooze with personallity and humor, and the gameplay is just flat out fun and exilerating, no other words can describe it.
Yep the presentation is the cherry on top! The soundtrack is full of bangers too

True passion projects are always amazing because you can tell whether they poured their heart into the project
What shouldn’t go unappreciated is the connection with the fanbase this game has. Over the half-decade of development, there were multiple playable demos and other progress updates.
Tour de Pizza did it- they refined their game and got it out. That hurdle is one that so many indie devs just never get over- and now that it’s out, I can’t wait to see where it goes from here.
That review was very smooth. Very short and to the point with little to no filler just like Pizza Tower itself. The MCPig interview bit was a nice touch btw.

Yeah for sure! I know at least one review brought Pizza Massacre (the horror comic/game predecessor to Pizza Tower itself), though it's odd no one's talked about press related stuff with Pizza Tower. Still, I think it's neat that there's so much more to Pizza Tower that people have yet to learn about.

I don't really mind if the game didn't win an award, since the game award often biased to me. Everyone who have ever heard/played the game knows it's GOTY material. I haven't played it but just by looking at it, the game looks very fun
To be fair goty awards are for AAA companies to pat themselves on the back for their mediocre work and advertise their trash. If you really want something honest you would need to have a separate group made from a community of real gamers and a way for the common folk to voice their opinions as a whole.

actual quality does not and has not played any factor whatsoever in well over a decade
I've boiled it down to why Wario Land hasn't gotten a new game.
It was R&D1's series alongside Kid Icarus and 2D Metroid. But along the way the teams split up and now theres no one in Nintendo who will pitch a new Wario Land.
Miyamoto sure as hell aint gonna do it because he's never been heavily involved. Maybe a supervision for Mario Land 1 & 2
Thats also why the latest Metroid games have outside companies working on them. None of them are solely from Nintendo like back then
So, its either other devs who will do it or the Indie scene. And as we can see, the Wario Land formula still has life to nourish and flourish
The revival of metroidvania’s seems to have spurred Nintendo to breathe new life into the Metroid franchise. Maybe Pizza Tower could do the same for Wario Land?

The question is, is Wario as popular now as before? Warioware took the spotlight before he knew it and Smash Bros gave him that "gassy & smelly" labels

@@indiegameoasisI don’t think Pizza Tower will do it alone, but maybe it, as well as AntonBlast and any future “Wario-likes” that may come out (I saw something a while back from the developer of Duke Dashington about wanting to make a Wario-like) could do it.

Fun fact for those who don’t know: the game engine for Wario Land 4 was also used to make Metroids Fusion and Zero Mission.
The idea of escaping a level backwards to finish it seems to have been heavily influenced by metroid, too.
In his pursuit of making a game similar to Warioland4, a game considered a classic, PTG managed to CREATE a NEW classic.

at some points I believe the dev even reused soundtrack samples from WL4, like the clock's "tiktok" noise somewhere in the middle of "It's Pizza time". What a great tribute

Funny thing. From what i understand this game was also the main composer Ronan "Sauceman" de Castel's first gig aswell.
So we a got a first-time developer creating a game that transcends its predecessor with a first-time composer delivering probably one of the best OSTs of recent time.
Pizza tower is a masterpiece that stands alongside Hollow Knight and Cuphead, artistically and gameplay wise.

honestly, the only thing keeping me from playing this was that it look so crazy I tought it was going to be super hard. Hearing that it's exactly the other way around is so cool.

Pizza tower is a very easy game if ur playing normally but if u wanna challenge urself with getting S and getting every achievement in the game then its an extremely hard game

Yes financially it was a great decision especially since the pandemic but its the most broken inhumane bullshit that I have ever seen.
I think all platformers with Pizza Tower’s sure speed and movement flow would be WAAAAAAY more fun
Pizza tower is certainly a really REALLY good game. However, it has one major flaw that brings it down. It doesn't have Wario.
That's exactly why WL4 is better
One very notable thing that Pizza Tower managed to do better than both Wario Land 4 and the Sonic series, is that:
No matter how pointy and sharp the enemy's weapon is, if you run at them very fast - they will panic for a moment, and you will be able to crush them without stopping the momentum.
Wario land 4 is amazing, made no mistake
But pizza tower is sooo much faster and satisfying, i love it

I had wario 4 and played it on my ds light. The game had a big part of my childhood
Wario land 4 isn't even my favourite on the series, and I think pt is an amazing example of a very polished, fun and addictive gameplay.

Pizza Tower seems like a perfect example of project development philosophy. Work on a singular profound ambitious project, and keep refining, improving and working on it while staying true to the core ideas, ambitions and experiences.

It's funny you say this because that philosophy is also a huge downfall for indie devs. They want to make their ambitious dream game, scope creep and inexperience eventually catches up with them and they burn out.
@@entropywilldestroyusall1323 Well, it's still good for those who are really serious about it. Most game devs it doesn't work for aren't entirely serious about their game. Not to mention that Pizza Tower has been in development for 5 years, with constant feedback from an entire community that also gave him the ability to stay motivated and keep going.
Also remember the dev worked on this game for like 5 years. It was a risky shot, but certainly he learned A LOT of game design and animation on the way to release.

Seems like it took the speed of wario land 4 and wario land shake's more in depth exploration within the format. This just smashes the two aspects together

@@indiegameoasis just by looks. Cuz wario land 4 seems a bit more straight foreward whime shake it kinda slowed it down but asked a slight amount more brain power for finding all the loot. Pizza tower clearly said "ah yes...both."
Pizza Tower actually has less exploration than most Wario Land games, but it takes the transformation system and the speed aspect of 4 to refine the action

Lies. Blatant and proposterous lies. The player has time to be a slave to the combo meter. they have time to frantically try and route while keeping the voracious meter saited, and then when it depletes they have the illusion of choice to hit the start button, go to the "restart level" button, and lose all their progress for failing to meet the ever stringent conditions that Pizza Tower's performance anxiety sim gameplay demands.
This game foolishly flew too close to the (Speedrunner) sun and for that reason, I cannot in good faith ever say it surpasses Wario Land 4. Wario Land 4 never cast judgement upon it's players.

It’s strange to compare this game to Wario Land 4, because it’s like comparing a someone to their supportive grandfather. You’re inspired by him, so what’s the point of saying you’re better than him?
Well, I didn’t say that you shouldn’t play Wario Land 4 or that it’s bad. The goal was more to show how Pizza Tower builds upon that game and takes everything to the next level.
