Description:
In 2017, Team Cherry launched Hollow Knight, a game that redefined the Metroidvania genre and captivated gamers worldwide. Over seven years later, fans are still eagerly waiting for the next chapter, Hollow Knight: Silksong, but Team Cherry has kept updates scarce, leaving the fanbase in a mix of frustration and curiosity. Why has Silksong’s development taken so long, and why has Team Cherry remained silent?
At major gaming events like Gamescom 2024’s Opening Night Live, Silksong dominated the conversation despite not even being present. Host Geoff Keighley even issued a pre-show warning to fans, reminding them not to expect Silksong updates.
In this video, we explore the possible reasons behind Silksong's delays, how Hollow Knight’s massive success may have created new challenges for Team Cherry, and why this situation isn’t as unusual as it might seem.

Commenting cuz we Need this video to get out there. People seriously need to chill out. Per Hollow Knight’s success, they’re expecting that we’re expecting a banger…and they’re trying to top one of the best games of all time. A small task huh… So please chill and just Let. them. Cook.
Ts is never dropping, I played HK during Covid and ppl were expecting it soon. Over 4 years later and…
fine i'll install it, bought a year ago
I hope silksong doesn't came out after gta 6 💀
I gave up on it. There's no way the game will live up to its 6 year hype. The game is on such a pedestal now that I just don't think it's possible unless they do something to completely revolutionize metroidvanias.
I have a feeling its gona be released close to GTA6, repeating history, lol - still looking forward to this game, one of the best i have played, and the soundtrack i still listen to
Honestly, the best thing I think Teamcherry can do is stay quilt for a long time have people loss hope it will come out and have all animosity die out and that's when you release it because the fans including myself have put such big expectations on it I think it will just fail and instead of it being seen as a great game because people will say I waited this long and that's all there is. I really hate this approach because I want it to come out soon but I also know I will hate it if I if my expectations are too high.
little does he know of balatro
The real reason it's taking so long is because they're still designing the hundreds of alternate costumes for her
What about balatro?
3rd sequal co op mode you play with both
Just let them work, what's the problem. The game will be great
Basically Team Cherry suffers from the simplest and most common problem in software development - gold plating... and since they are an indie company they won't hire an expert product manager to fix that exact problem and allow development to flow well.
Can't wait for team cherry to watch the video to know how they should work.
i ated the soirce code :( sorry
Ive quit the game, and never had an urge to return
I’d be totally fine with team cherry just saying “finally, here’s the game, now fuck off.”
I am watching this video, but i have never played slay the spire
I'm gonna be so happy when silksong finally releases in 2035
Team cherry can really solidify themselves with silksong, or really screw this up with a long wait. Now keep in mind some gamestake 10 years to develop and get released
best video about this on the internet
So no game because these terrible developers have too much money and actually suck at a fundamental aspect of their job which is FINISHING THE DAMN THING. I'm a 3D artist, I freelance, and I make a great living out of it. One of the aspects of my work that I'm the most proud of is FINISHING STUFF FASTER THAN EVERYONE ELSE. That's fundamental. These guys can't do that, they suck at their job. I'm legit not buying silksong even if it launches tomorrow, sorry.
At this point I hope a team gets silk song and makes it from scratch I bet not only it would be better but they will finish sooner lmfaoo team cherry 🤡🤡🤡
I did quit... So nah
Balatro, please make a development story video just like this one
I'm not even hyped for it anymore. I'll wait until it goes on sale if it's more than 15$
I quit the game after killing the heart boss thing
If only all the Silksong copers can actually watch and finish and understand this video...
Silksong is Generation Z Half Life 3.
Tbh, while keeping quiet is always a pretty good idea, in this case I think having fed the fans just a bit at the beginning and now just being almost entirely quiet is the best marketing strategy for SS.
Team Cherry is almost making themselves like Ubisoft, and make their goodwill rot and their company to die
As a person who knows how long it would take to create hollow knight with a small team I can wait I’d rather wait then have them cave in and become a crappy game. People don’t want it to come out asap they want to play the finished product asap. Which is just greedy like people don’t understand what a small team means last I checked it was a total of 3 dudes lmfao like calm down
BUT I WANT IT NOW😠
Good good and fkcing good. This is exactly what they should be doing, working on the project until they feel confident and have it perfected. It's why hollow knight was such an amazing game, they are not going to release in an unfinished state and God forbid they get rushed by a bunch of impatient children like every other dev studio into releasing something they weren't comfortable with but the masses wanted it. Take your time, this game is going to be incredible and I'm more then willing to wait.
prefer monster train over slay the spire, will probably never play slay the spire again. juvenile click bait.
oh yeah team cherry works slow lmao
Dread was not vaporwave it is the fastest selling 2D Metroid game at 60 dollars. Dread was being made already.
I understand them taking the time needed to produce it which is fine I just don’t understand how they had enough content in 2019 for that entire demo but still havent finished
At this point i think Team Cherry will drop SilkSong out of nowhere a wednesday or monday early morning just for fun, like "let's drop the game when everyone is working, sleeping or at school then when they come back they'll receive a surprise"
It is way to unfair to expect a 3 people team, making a fully hand drawn game, which is expected to be (at the very least) 12-20 hours of pure gameplay long, to just release it in like 4 or 5 years. Big AAA games tend to be in développement for like 2-3 years sometimes, and even 10 years for some, so it is unrealistic and inhumane in many ways
+ AAA games has like 100 devs or even more working on, Cherry has at minimun 3 or if they hire some external devs for some stuff like 10 or so. Our expectations are too high for that small team, let them cook at low fire, the dish will be worth the wait
@LynnLyns good cooks know when the steaks are at their perfect point
Based on their bragging about working overtime to get the original Hollow Knight out the door, I'm chalking it up to scope creep and poor project planning tbh.
Silksong is all the Hollow Knight we played along the way.
Great video! I think Team Cherry should take their time and release the game whenever they feel it's ready. That being said, I think there's also a bit of an element of growing hype and anticipation so the longer they take, the more unrealistic the fan's expectations could become. But I'd rather play a game they're proud of than something they released because of external pressures. Fan pressures were likely a big factor in releasing Cyberpunk, and we all know how that went... Let Team Cherry cook.
They don't, the end.
What are the games in the beginning of the video? Want to check them out
In other words, dont expect the game to come out until Hollow Knight begins dipping in popularity and sales and they begin running out of money.
Half-Life 3 is my white whale, but Silksong is definitely a close runner-up. Duke Nukem fans will tell you, be careful what you wish for.
People complain when games get released as buggy messes. but turn around when dev time takes longer than 4 seconds. the game will come out when its ready, and we should be happy for that, rather than having to deal with years of patches to fix game breaking bugs.
yo dude you kept going on about entirely diferent stuff, on a big tangent and I almost didnt notice! great video
metroidvania jar?
I really enjoyed this video. Thanks!
