Two years later this motor is going strong ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxBZWgzfpS2Jj7JqIHyaSZjyVHNUgCKCBf Just uploaded a video of it after 2 years. We use it probably a dozen days each year on our small raft.-original review- We got this motor the other day and tested it out. I don't have anything to compare it to, but it seems good to me. It has all the features advertised - the motor housing is metal. We will see how it performs longer term and I will revise this review if needed. Some initial observations:- Good thrust, moves our boat around really well- It comes with a circuit breaker but no switch - so there's no way to kill the motor other than yanking the connection off the battery. I installed an inline switch.- The mount bracket is plastic and I worry it might break- There are a number of plastic parts that I worry about, but the most important ones are metal or some kind of composite
Mass of a boat doesn't affect speed in linear way. It can create more drag, but hull shape is more important. Inertia can actually help you maintain speed when there are waves. We need data like, how many kW it uses per hour, and how many N is thrust force.
1hp is the same as 750 watts, so this motor's peak of 1300 watts is really 1.75hp (except without the losses for turning the shaft and lower gears as well as the water pump). The motor housing looks blimpy and the prop too plasticky, but above the water it looks absolutely gorgeous.
Should try the hangkai 8hp electric i just picked it up for $500 and its pushing my 14ft jon boat at 7mph the quality is much better than their lower hp engines it's actually not any louder than a normal trolling motor
Thanks for making this video. I had the NT300. But had to send it back. Prop wouldn’t turn when I powered it up. It definitely has the feel of a quality built product. Yes, it’s made in China. But Newport Vessels has excellent customer service. It’s going to go on my 15 ft Fisher Jon boat. That only weighs about 275lbs. To see it push your heavy 16ft with 2 adults at 6.2mph was impressive! Can’t wait to see what it gets my boat up to. My replacement is due in February. I have a 36v 50ah ionic that should provide good run time.
Man that stinks! I'm sure you're looking forward to getting in on your boat. My dad and I did another video (i'll release first of february) we put it on his 14' flat bottom jon boat ad got it up to around 6,5MPH but I'm sure it's possible to go a little faster in a boat more designed for speed.
Bro, I'm so glad to see you and the " Ole Gunny " back out on the water again, Also appreciate the input for that Vessel electric unit, I'm looking to buy one this summer, keep the vids coming and ps, glad Gunny finally got some up to date cover, Semper Fi !!!
This is great. I have a 14 ft aluminum v-hull and want to dump my 9.9 horse Mercury. Tired of it running crappy. How long did the battery run before you ran out of charge? 60 minutes? Any information on speed vs. batter length?
Thanks for this great video. I am looking to buy one of these for a paddleski 437 inflatable boat. There is 20.5 " from the top of the transom to the surface of the water. Would it be possible to know if this great NK300 which has a 24.6" shaft option would work or is this shaft to short? Would it be possible to know what is your boat transom height? Sea Eagle (paddleski ) recommend 30" shaft length like the torpeedo but I really like the price of the NK300. Thanks for your input and help!
Thanks much for the detailed video. By any chance can you tell if you can put a cabled or remote controlled steering with this outboard ? I have a small 12 foot boat, with a toyish pilot house. Would be cool to control it sitting in there. Thanks.
@@GeorgiaBassmaster thank you. Do you think there are connections available for a mechanical steering system/kit readily available from Amazon or West Marine to attach to this ? Thanks.
It’s better than all the knock offs for sure, I’ve had several. Your only better motors are gonna be torqueedo and epropulsion and that’s a big price difference.
I FISH ON RIVER IN KAYAK I WAS NEEDING SOMETHING TO GET ME UP RIVER WIND THE DAM IS GENERATION, DO YOU THING THIS HAS POWER TO PULL ME UP RIVER WHEN WATER TO FLOWING? THANKS
An if u do the math i can get a lithium battery with a 80lbs reg troll motor an bet it last just like that one an have almost the same power yeah for way less dude 😂😂😂
I have no problem with people that like the electric motors, I like them, but I do wish they would be more honest about them and stop lying about the HP. That motor IS NOT a 3hp motor. The specs say 1300 watts, so it is a 1.743HP motor. As for claiming it is equivalent to a 3hp that is simply false. There is no equivalent. There is just HP. If you want to speak about torque fine, but that electric motor IS NOT a 3HP.
That's what the manufacter claimed and I was just saying what they claimed. The speed is equal to a 3HP gas. We have electric only lakes here so you can't run gas motors.
@@GeorgiaBassmaster I said that the manufacturers are lying about it. I assumed you did not know about how to figure HP or about their lie. I do not believe you that it goes as fast as a 3 hp gas model. At least not a major manufacturer like Yamaha, Mercury, or Honda. Many of the off brands lie about the actual HP even in the gas models so if you are comparing it to one of them then yes it may go as fast as a improperly advertised gas model. My point is that people do not overspend to get something that is less than they were told by the manufacturer.

That boat is the same specs as the small pontoon Im building. Thanks for the review!
Slick boat motor and all in all looks like a good one I'll use it.
Nice! I just got a 86lb. Hopefully it’ll do good. Not ready for Lanier but it’ll do well on black shoals

I didn’t run it 60 mins straight. I’ve ran it 25-30 mins straight to get to my spot and then fish and go another 30 mins etc etc….
That is one fast trolling motor Georgia B assmaster🔥
Do you think if you this was used on a Saturn 15 ft inflatable, will it go fast?

E uma boa aventura 👍bom de mas lindo lugar
That thing is sweet bro!!!
I think so too!
Vey nice man. I'm debating between a troller and this 3hp for an inflatable dinghy. What type of battery set up do you have/need for it?
I have a 36 volt lithium battery
does it say what the thrust would be? Would be nice to compare to a trolling motor.
86 Pounds of thrust is roughly 1.5 HP so you would need 170 pound thrust to be around the same.
As of today, this Newport NT300 is up to $1200. Is it still competitive with other 1300Watt trolling motors?
It’s better than all the knock offs for sure, I’ve had several. Your only better motors are gonna be torqueedo and epropulsion and that’s a big price difference.
Looks just like a torqueedo
Hello, would you recommend a marine deep cycle battery on the motor?
Sweet!!!
Can’t wait for the pig factory!
Thats not the fastes outboard motor on battery but it looks very nice😮
I dont doubt fedex threw it on the porch
Which battery did you go with?? The 40 or 30ah
30AH
Hey man if you would to buy 2 of them and twined them on the back of the boat would it go twice the speed ?
Does it have a reverse
yes

Oh for sure 100%
If you order it code (GEORGIA) saves 10%.
It’s plenty powerful tho.
1300 watts is 1.74 hp
The horsepower is converted at the shaft or the prop, just like I can take a particular cc motor and tweak it to be a more powerful horsepower motor.
What's the max voltage these can take?
It takes a 36 volt battery.
Put an electric Elco 50hp on her.
If they would send me one i would lol

You’re not that smart lol. 3HP is equal to about 150 pounds of thrust…. 80 pound thrust will NOT go as fast.
2+2=4 if you didn’t know.
There are 745w in 1 electric hp, at 1300w this motor isnt even 2hp
It's equal to 3HP in speed not direct wattage.

After efficiency losses a 3hp engine at the crankshaft is probably making 1.5 at the prop friend.
