I use the 180 Pro on my Old Town PDL120. I fish for Salmon, Steelhead, Striper, Trout, and multiple Sea dwellers. For trolling at ultra low speed (1.2-2.0Mph) the 180 Pro is much better due to the purposeful calibration of the throttle curve. The 300 has more speed but I can do 5.3 MPH fully loaded. That’s plenty fast since these yaks aren’t designed for speed, and I’m not in tournaments. Also the weight of the battery on the 300 is a lot more , and in the Ocean if you have to right the craft weight matters.

Wondering if the 180 pro setup will work with my Jackson Coosa HD? I'll have to figure out how to run steering cables,

Great idea for a video. I would really have liked to see both on the PWR129 to see the difference or both on the Hobie.
You could do both on both hulls to compare the efficiency in the water. That would be some good data to have

You really need to identical hulls, the speed is dependent on hull design. But I am sure the 300 would out perform anyway.

Add some PB Blaster Dry Lube from AutoZone to the foot pedal tracks of the PWR. It’ll help smooth out the steering. Mine was horrible when I first got it. Now it’s super smooth.

The tests and race compared entire systems. Not just the motor. Hull design and weight are big factors.
I believe a realistic test for the motor would be to have each motor on the same boat(s) with the same setup.
I really like Newport Vessels motors and believe they are easily on par with Minn Kota motors. The motor we use the most is actually a 24lb thrust WaterSnake Asp (because it weighs 5 lbs). It tops out at about 3mph for our 250 lb (without us in it) PA 17T. The same boat goes about 4MPH with the Newport 36lb thrust and 5-6 MPH with the 55lb thrust motor. Battery life drops like a rock as the motor gets more powerful, but the top speed doesn't go up that much.

I am seriously thinking on getting the pwr129 but the new pwr130 seems to be the top of the food chain for powered kayaks since it release.
I run a Frontier 12 with bow motor guide xi3 gps motor and it’s awesome. I just want more room and to run a rear EV outboard on the new one

I have a 12 1/2 foot slayer from native. kayak weighs 100 pounds. I take it in saltwater for Reds flounders and trout. Sometimes get a little rough and windy. I may have to go with the 300 good video. Thanks for your test. I’m thinking of pulling the trigger on it.

Do think about the weight of the motors AND the batteries (and placement of batt) in/on your yak! 36V VS 24V with respective AH ratings. Batt SIZE can also be a factor!
I ended up with the NK180 for my Hobie Outback & a 24V 65AH batt, based on those considerations. It is a good balance for me and my personal set-up. Fully loaded with mod chop in our Texas bay systems, I can hit 5.1 mph, But can cruise at 75% at 4.5mph for long distances with little decrease in batt storage.
Shopped & researched for 2 yrs & got the motor for myself Christmas & NOW they come out the "All Improved" NK180 PRO! Just my luck! 😅

@@nealhagood6792 Same here, buddy...! Shopped and "drooled" for over a year, then last Summer got the NK180 (before the "Pro" model cam out), and have never looked back. Got a ":Post-Christmas" Titan-X and the NK300 this Spring, then had to buy a trailer for it. A little too heavy for me to load in the back of my truck (wait until you're 78 years old, and had the "Kung-Flu" twice...!). Lol Heck, that Titan-X is about 180 pounds "bare-bones" not counting the NK300, a 36 volt battery and a large 12 volt battery for the lights and graphs.

In my opinion it's not about how much it weighs except on takeoff and how much resistance the hull has. On my outlaw 11.5 I get a steady 5 mph out of my MotorGuide 55 lb thrust. I've run it fully rigged out and empty and the speed never changes.

Noticed you didn’t drop the skeg down to get true steering. Looks like it was steering in the up position which is limited turning since it’s up in the cavity

I run a NK-180 on my Crescent Lite Tackle 2 and have achieved 5.74mph top speed. I am using (2) 12V 50ah batteries wired in series, and have them in my front hatch to distribute the weight better. Have you tried putting the 24V battery for the NK-180 Pro in the front hatch
to see if it will help distribute weight better to help the Bonafide achieve higher speed?

Hooking the bonafide foot steering to the motor instead of the built in rudder would dramatically help the steering issue. There are definitely complaints though with how smooth the factory foot steering is.

Great video man. You man my decision much easier as I am considering my next yak and motor. Question - the Tim Percy kit you used on the PA, do you keep the NK300 straight and steer with the rudder or are you using his steering kit? Thanks again for a great video, I liked and subscribed!

In the steering issue because you’re using the rudder and not turning the 180P ? Or does the PWR just have bad steering capabilities?

You just saved me alot of money Brother....
cause now I know an Empty PWR 129 and 180pro motor isnt at all that fast even with someone half my weight.
That 5 MPH will turn into 4 point Something when rigged out.
I have been told the Xi3 on the bow will make the PWR 129 run 5.7 to 6 MPH from 3 owners....
I have the Xi3 already maybe I just use that instead of getting the 180pro.

    Great video, and Thanks...
Like you, I also have the NK300 and an "older" NK180 (pre-Pro Model). The 180 pushes my old Titan 10.5 around 4.7 mph (that's with a fully rigged 'Yak, that weighs over 200 pounds), and I don't know how fast the 300 goes, or how much the Titan-X weighs (but it's pushing at least 300 to 320 pounds, with the batteries and fishing gear and graphs! Stay "tuned"...!). Lol
So glad you did that test, as a Friend is "un-decided" about which he wants to get for his 'Yak, and I'll surely pass this video on to him.
(Ps: I'm thinking you're having cavitation issues with that NK180 Pro, so you might take a look at the depth and angle of how it's mounted!).

Nothing against the Bonifide, but maybe Hobie puts more in engineering, research and development to make them more hydro dynamic. Just a thought, but they've been in the water game longer than anyone. And that's with the NK300 weighing 11 lbs more than the NK180 Pro.

I get 5.2 mph with a NK180 in a fully loaded Crescent Shoalie. Fish finder, 13x16 black pak, 6 lbs mushroom anger with anger wizard and shoot, lots of Yak Attack assessories. You probably need to mess with motor depth and trim.

I''m about to pull the trigger on the NK300, but I have a question. Is there a particular battery I should go with that's more versatile to use when I'm not using the motor? i.e. Something with USB ports, Noqua connections, etc. I'm new to the 'kayak motor game', so I apologize in advanced for the newbie question, but any help is appreciated.
