How does speed Academy not have 1+milli subs is beyond me, from the quality of the videos, the cleanliness of the shop, to the enthusiasm of the guys and banter. Also the CARS!!! The line speed Academy line up of cars is literally the best on UA-cam. I would really love for you guys to do a $1000 cheap car challenge though.

So depressing looking at the JDM market now. These cars use to be fairly obtainable in Canada a few years back before the Americans came into the market. 45k CAD for a RHD TT 6 speed with 150k, a burnt clutch (or worse), and needing engine work is insane.

That funky wiring on the windshield is an antenna for the JDM navigation system. You'll struggle to reseal the oil pan with the engine in place. Combined with the clutch job, it'll probably be best to drop the engine, gearbox and front subframe out altogether and then split the engine and gearbox to do the clutch and refresh the engine on a stand.

7:51 For the reverse there is a little metal plate when you take off the top plastic panel and remove some of the layers of the shift knob underneath. You’ll see a square panel with a little L shape on the right side facing up (if it’s not bent all the way over or installed incorrectly). I don’t see a part number for it from Toyota but if you look up “reverse lockout panel JZA80 Dewla” it’ll be the first picture that pops up. I’m sure other places make it too👍🏼

Yes the engine has to come out in order to change the oil pan. When resealing the oil pan, make sure you follow the Toyota TRSM manual, and use Toyota FPIG sealant.
Valve seals are pretty easy to do.
Use a dab of the Toyota fpig on the front of the valve cover gasket - per the TRSM manual.
I’d say to do cams, as you’ll pick up a lot over oem. Gsc s1 or hks 264 are a good choice.

Down here in Middle Earth, I fix JZA80 Supras and JZX100 Chasers every week. Doing a clutch on a 6-speed Supra is not fun. Your options for getting that massive gearbox to clear the tunnel and the flywheel at the same time are twofold: either rotate the gearbox 180 degrees after undoing the bell housing bolts and remove it from the vehicle while it's upside down, OR reach in through the inspection ports on either side of the bellhousing and unbolt the pressure plate and friction plate so that they come out with the gearbox. I recommend option two.

With the timing belt, valve seals, clutch, probably swapping out the twin turbos, etc. I would think it would be easier to just pull it out for that. It will also give you an opportunity to look more closely at what you have and spot any potential issues sooner.

I'm a fan of the wing that's on it simple yet useful not over bearing. The wing on it now doesn't take away from majestic of the car itself either.

I drove my 98 Supra OEM for 2 months. It hurt each and every day. Finally got down and did the basic bolt-ons BUT ... Kept every single nut and bolt and panel and part even the side mount intercooler ... i mean every oem part that i removed, i still have ...

Even though my original love is, and always will be, the Silvia S14!! 😍😍

Dave, I always thought the duck bill was the cleanest look on these Supras. It really is amazing how much these are selling for today.

The silicone that bulging out of the hose is also a common sight in Malaysia.

Beautiful car guys, very good score! I own a few myself and I can fill you in on a couple of things. To do the oil pan rtv you will need to pull the engine out (at least that's the easiest option). Your diff in the red car is a B03B (the big diff) which is a big win for you. The factory subwoofer was just a tick box in the original option brochures, another decent win. Unfortunately all the worn interior trims have been discontinued other than the shifter surround, which luckily comes with a new shifter boot. The only other part you can buy is the drivers window switch surround, but it's from a s2 facelift model and is a different colour. Once again great buy and I'm looking forward to this JDM legends series!
Edit: The rear cargo blind can also be purchased new as of a couple of months ago when I got mine.

First thing I would do is bypass the clutch switch and always start it in neutral without pressing the clutch

Doing the sump with motor is is possible but difficult.
Would highly recommend pulling it out
Also check to see if the leak is from the front main as that’s a common one with non vvti 2jz. Mint car though 🤘🏼

Wingwise depends on the plans for the gtr! I think the two cars should be pretty matched in terms of aero and aesthetics, so if a z-tune kit is in plan for the gtr than something more agressive should be done to the supra too (ridox??)

Might bee good to yank the motor.... get better eyes on everything. Specially around those twins... reseal the whole thing. Maybe do a headgasket as well... gotta do a clutch and valve seals anyway...

You can do oil pan gasket in car but you will need to raise the engine a bit. Aristo is just as bad if not worse

Sorry to tell you guys its an engine out job for the oil pan leak. I guess you could hoist it up a little and not take it fully out since you guys have equipment but normally engine out. There is an upper and lower pan technically. No gaskets just black RTV silicone.

I guess i got lucky. 98 Supra 6 speed with 30k miles, original and in mint condition for $40k ..
Grandfather purchased it new in 98, had a bad stroke in 2000, passed it down to his son, he had a massive stroke in 2010 and passed it down to his nephew which sold it to me to buy a house back in 2020. Family kept car and never modified it, even the nephew at 25 yrs old that had it for 10 hrs and NEVER modified it one time. He said he knew its value in stock condition so he left it as is.

It won't be a SA build without removing the motor at least twice. Don't worry about that subframe.

  • @321Banditos
    @321Banditos 3 роки тому

nah its the same mk3 to mk4 to change the oil pan gasket you have to pull the motor or drop the subframe, and dropping the subframe a little doesnt help at all either you have to dorp it all the way.

So... Here in Ontario and you just posted a widely viewed video showing you have no catalytic converter... Obviously you have to add one before you can put it on ANY public road or get plates until you get rid of that goofy dryer vent "exhaust".
Unless of course it is going to be a trailer to track toy? (in which case looks don't matter LOL)

TRD wing, hands down. The OEM wing is nice and plays off the curvy, jellybean styling of the MK4 but that TRD wing really brings some structure to that otherwise ROUND ass.
