There's a crazy video on @TAOutdoors where these people had a bonfire in a park or something, and it had spread over a massive area underground, it was actually insane. He called the fire department and they took it 100% serious, and rightfully so. I'm talking like 20+ meters from the fire pit location it was burning underground.

Good day Greg ........ I am so glad you explained to your viewers this important fire safety tip at timestamp 24:52 ......... I already knew the ground you guys were on was unsafe for fires and was pretty sure that was why you were not going to light a fire....... People do not realize that when a forest fire dies out in the fall it doesn't mean the fire is out as the fire is still smolding in the peat and if there is not enough snow to melt and put it out then in the spring that fire can reignite and start all over burning everything in its path........
I would bring my Butler, chef and Superstore grocers. Yea I know I forgot my dressing gown, but I do have pate de foie gras. Seriously I enjoy your content. Love your dog. All the very best from Scotland.Rab
Really!!! How not to go camping outdoors in your own beautiful forest!! Anyway, I'm so jealous of you living on 101 acres, it sounds so wonderful! 👍!!!
I was happy to find a new adventure! I was really hoping you hooked a little bigger fish. I could have easily watched a 2 hour version? Did DJ get a fish? Your decision to move the fires was IMO a good one. I watched a different survivalist find an underground fire from a previous camper that had traveled quite a distance from the original fire underground. He called and reported it, waiting until they came with water, shovel’s and properly put it out. It was kind of you to let DJ slide on the extra items included with his lighter.👍 Would you ever consider a longer version of some videos (if you have enough footage)? I would love to do a 4 item challenge with you during winter. Off the top of my head I would bring a flint and steal, a saw, a wool blanket, and a rifle. I can make a shelter, fishing hooks & lines, ect but I think those 4 items are essential during a winter trek
Did the other guy tap out? Seems he vanished on his "Fishing Trip" ... Not to say he wasn't seen since the first day and only heard the 2nd... Great Video Greg! Nice seeing you back! Thanks for sharing!
Greg probably told him that the fire he made was too close to his shelter which caused him to have an absolute meltdown since this was the second fire he had to put out.
I was thinking the same thing! Where'd he go?? Just disappeared, no final wrap up or comparison, etc. Probably had the meltdown when his shelter fell apart...Greg mentioned something about that guy's shelter...

That peat mossy ground has gotta be nice to sleep on. Reminds me of camping in the pine forests in Michigan. To be sure about the mossy ground not catching fire we'd dig it down to bare dirt, pile some rocks or thick wet logs on the bottom (which the logs on the bottom is a good trick to keep your fire from melting through the snow and keeping it up close to you in deep snow). But yeah, that peaty ground can be pretty unsafe for fires. But it's fantastic for making beds on.

I really would want to take a slingbow combo. But really depends on situation, location. I go for a dedicated water bottle because my body simply depends a lot of water.

I would travel from the UK to do one of these challenges with you Greg. In the UK it is really hard to find a place that you can camp and start a fire. I've watched loads of your videos, and love them, but I feel a sadness that the UK locks down these activities. I spend most of my spare time on the sea as a lifeboat volunteer, but my heart is in the forest!

Last time I went though; these are the things I brought: 1. Axe 2. Lighter 3. A pack of ham (went great, cooked with wild berries and shrooms) 4. 1 oz of marijuana Best 4-day camping trip ever
I love the fact that you brought up the shotgun for safety and your bear mace because these items should always be in your survival gear if possible. i think people need to hear this more because i got stalked through the woods by a huge mountain lion with nothing to defend myself. Stay safe out there yall!
love how Greg brings 4 items and the subscriber pulls up with 11 (adding bear mace and the pellets from the rifle) - Not a big deal of course, great vid as always!
Always good to see bow drill making and starting a fire with it. Good call on putting out the fire on the moss. I've seen underground fire and it is very dangerous. A lot of water is required to extinguish. There were a lot of fires in my country last summer. We really need to be careful. Interesting to see that Oregon grape is edible. We have it here in Europe as an invasive plant.
I love your videos Greg. I consider myself fairly handy but have learned so much from watching you! Keep up the great work and stay safe friend. Sending this message from eastern Iowa.
Finn is like the ultimate survival companion........doesn't matter which video......he is just sat there with the solution looking all cute.....i imagine his little brain thinking " is this what you need dad?"😊😊😊 and it's because he's been taught properly.......xx
Cudos for handling that poorly placed fire so diplomatically. You're a good teacher. Edit: DJ's second fire wasn't any better though, he's a slow learner! :D
Long shot I know but, Have you ever considered taking a group of subscribers out (Not just the one) maybe for a week or two to see how that'd work out. Each being given their own tasks around camp I would see it as an interesting prospect since you can only learn so much through watching. Being out doing it with a guide would help a lot. This could even be done by a group of guides such as yourself, Fowler and Amos all having competing groups to see who did it better. Great stuff once again Greg!
Would be top of my bucket list to fly over to the rockies and do a survival video with you complete novice and never done anything like it before but absolutely love watching from England uk.
Greg hitting those grapes 🍇 @46:50 reminded me of my grandmother liking sour pickles. "Not dill!" I can hear her, "sour". 😁 Thanks for that. As always, great video!
Sorry to have to miss the premier, but I will watch this video later tomorrow evening. It's always nice to have one of your videos to look forward to. Would you count your 'defender' as one of your survival items? I guess I'll just have to 'wait and see'.
It was nice you brought the man for a challenge. It was a good idea about the fire also, but you didn't mention the move to a new spot, and you didn't include the other man enough in the video. You should have gotten his response to his experience of the challenge, did he catch fish, find mushrooms, was it hard for him also, etc. if your going to do this again, please camp with man, hear his side of the experience. This video was still all about you!
Where did you collect from this video that it was entirely about the other guy? Owen's is showing how to survive with the minimum. DJ may as well brought a RV with all he brought (against the 4 item rule) which takes away from the entire point of the challenge and your request for his experience. He didn't adhere to the struggle of the 4 item challenge and therefore cannot give a genuine synopsis.
I love that he admits when he made a mistake. He doesnt try to cover it up or edit it out, he tells you WHY it was a mistake and how to fix said mistake! A real teacher!

Last time I went though; these are the things I brought:
1. Axe
2. Lighter
3. A pack of ham (went great, cooked with wild berries and shrooms)
4. 1 oz of marijuana
Best 4-day camping trip ever
Always happy to see new videos, esp almost an hour long👌that's my comfort zone right here, one love Mr Ovens👍Thank you sir
I love the fact that you brought up the shotgun for safety and your bear mace because these items should always be in your survival gear if possible. i think people need to hear this more because i got stalked through the woods by a huge mountain lion with nothing to defend myself. Stay safe out there yall!
I do a lot of outdoor stuff, but I think....Bic Lighter, Hatchet, Tarp, Pot. Boom.
Good thing you weren’t hungry enough to eat the amanitas. That would have been an entirely distant video. 😂 43:06
love how Greg brings 4 items and the subscriber pulls up with 11 (adding bear mace and the pellets from the rifle) - Not a big deal of course, great vid as always!
I love watching you and Zach
Pellets in rifle counts too?
Always good to see bow drill making and starting a fire with it. Good call on putting out the fire on the moss. I've seen underground fire and it is very dangerous. A lot of water is required to extinguish. There were a lot of fires in my country last summer. We really need to be careful. Interesting to see that Oregon grape is edible. We have it here in Europe as an invasive plant.
I saw the Oregon grape when I was hiking. It’s extremely bitter and unpleasant and is known to cause birth defects in pregnant women
@@Foxyfreedom Thanks. It's not so harmless then. I will stick to other berries.
Greg. You are. King of the woods. Big Mike from Kentucky. ❤❤❤❤❤. Love watching your videos
I love these challenges. Fish, mushrooms, and berries? Sounds pretty perfect.
I love your videos Greg. I consider myself fairly handy but have learned so much from watching you! Keep up the great work and stay safe friend. Sending this message from eastern Iowa.
15:29 🎉😊 intelligence, knowledge, strength, wisdom.
Another great video. Can't wait for the next one!!!!!!!
Thanks again Greg love your videos knife, Firestarter, tarp, hook
Long shot I know but, Have you ever considered taking a group of subscribers out (Not just the one) maybe for a week or two to see how that'd work out. Each being given their own tasks around camp I would see it as an interesting prospect since you can only learn so much through watching. Being out doing it with a guide would help a lot. This could even be done by a group of guides such as yourself, Fowler and Amos all having competing groups to see who did it better. Great stuff once again Greg!
Logistical nightmare, but man I'm in! Sounds like a great time and a great watch
Not a bad idea thanks.
Viewers be soft, that a lot of couches to haul out somewhere. 🤣😆🤣
I wanna go lol 😂
Would be top of my bucket list to fly over to the rockies and do a survival video with you complete novice and never done anything like it before but absolutely love watching from England uk.
This is his list:
Knife
Steel pot
Lighter
Flashlight
Just my guess
I wouldn’t take a flashlight as the lighter can support heat and light.. take a different item. 😊
My 4 items , Les Stroud, Outdoor Boys , Steve Wallis and of course Greg Ovens 😂
Don't sleep on joe robinet!
Lets go greg stay blessed my guy
Great shelter Greg! Its over the top man😊
So nice of Greg to work with people of special needs.
good stuff Greg!
😎
Greg hitting those grapes 🍇 @46:50 reminded me of my grandmother liking sour pickles. "Not dill!" I can hear her, "sour". 😁 Thanks for that.
As always, great video!
Sorry to have to miss the premier, but I will watch this video later tomorrow evening. It's always nice to have one of your videos to look forward to. Would you count your 'defender' as one of your survival items? I guess I'll just have to 'wait and see'.
We missed you Greg... much love from România 🇹🇩❤
He didn't adhere to the struggle of the 4 item challenge and therefore cannot give a genuine synopsis.
coolest guy ever, love you man
