Hollow Bastion is the final level in Kingdom Hearts 1, plus it is one of the very few levels that are Kingdom Hearts original
Technically The End of the World is the final world in Kingdom Hearts 1, lol.
It also holds significance in Kingdom Hearts II throughout a large percentage of the main plot
Well, up to KH3 there’s been plenty more original worlds since then. Such as twilight town, Daybreak Town, Scala ad Caluim, & the like.
There’s lots of original worlds though.
Traverse Town, Radiant Garden (technically it’s Hollow Bastion but they’re so different you can barely tell), Daybreak Town, Scala Ad Carlin, Twilight Town, Land of Departure/Castle Oblivion, and the Realm of Darkness.
This is the world that Ansem (real and imposter) did his research in, so it’s important in that sense too
There is actually a difference between Hollow Bastion and Dive to the Heart related to Steve’s mining mechanic
The platforms are considered stone on Hollow Bastion and iron on Dive to the Heart
Which I should add is dumb because Kalos Pokémon League (another stage made of stained glass) is considered a stone stage

As a Useless fact it would be cool to share how Sora's inclusion had some "Thirteens" around it, respecting Kingdom Hearts' love for the number 13:
- Sora was released 13 days after the reveal trailer.
- The version of the inclusion of Sora was 13.0.0
- If you count all DLCs and count Pyra and Mythra as separate characters, Sora is the DLC number 13.
- The inclusion of Sora brought 13 New Spirits to Smash Ultimate, those being the 5 skins of Sora and the 8 Spirits from his Spirit Board.
- The name of Sora's stage, Hollow Bastion, has 13 Letters in it (allthough this is a 13 already in Kingdom Hearts, as well as the name of the franchise "Kingdom Hearts" has 13 letters in it and the Middle letter of the name is the M, which is the 13th letter of the Alphabet)

Sora is the 7th DLC Fighter, the ammount of the Dive to the Heart -coasters- glasspanels in-game are a total of 7, and also Hollow Bastion is the altered form of Radiant Garden, wich is one of the 7 Kingdom Hearts original worlds in the Game (someone might say that I didnt count End of the World, The World that Never Was and Destiny Islands, bcuz the former 2 are artificial worlds created with darkness as they are referred as the heartless of all worlds and the nobody of Twilight Town and Destiny Islands is not a proper world at all, since you can't navigate to it on your own)
Also, there is Quadratum and The Final World, but Quadratum is not in the realm of Fairy Tales since it is but a World of fiction, and The Final World is a place where hearts wich are held by someone end after they perish, so it's not a world per se, as it is supposed to not exist

I actually don't mind that Sora doesn't have many Disney references with his inclusion. Smash is a celebration of video games after all. That isn't to say I would've been against it. I'd just be indifferent either way they went. Does kinda show Disney's stingeyness with their properties though.

I agree. My only complaint with Sora is that he has a lot more good music that wasn't included in Smash.
Mega Man actually has something that depends on player color too!... sometimes
His special effect on death is colored gray if it's a cpu playing as him, otherwise it depends on the skin he's using
Also for some reason this only applies in actual matches, not training mode
Here's a small Sora fact: in his reveal video, Sakurai described Sora's seventh costume as "Wisdom Form" (from Kingdom Hearts II), but it's actually a cross between Wisdom Form and his Dream Drop Distance outfit, as seen in his third costume (basically it's his 3D outfit with Wisdom Form's color and symbols -- the "X" on his shirt is the clearest indication). I think they did this because they wanted a second 3D costume, but the game didn't have any alternate costumes that weren't Disney-related.
Actually aside from Tron Legacy's world changing his design I don't think he has any changes in 3D.
Keeping up with the themes, no matter where Sora is, Kingdom Hearts still stays as convoluted as ever. XD

As a massive KH fan, I can say that Hollow Bastion's "story significance" is minimal, but it is definitely an iconic place and Smash recreates it with TERRIFYING accuracy. You could tell me they ripped the 3D model straight from KH1 and just made a few parts move and I would believe that. It's basically a 1-to-1 recreation.
It's definitely the place I think of when I think of Kingdom Hearts. I then think of the Nightmare Before Christmas area but that's more of a Disney location than a Kingdom Hearts one.

Fun fact: I'm a kingdom hearts fan and I can tell you, everything that you see in the actual Hollow Bastion bit of the stage is recreated in *meticulous* detail, right down to the actual in-game level design.
I'm so happy to know that the origins of simple background aesthetics in a Kingdom Hearts stage in smash ultimate is as convoluted and confusing as the Kingdom Hearts timeline. Honestly, it's been perfectly represented once again; good job Sakurai
I still think that the lack of Donald, Goofy and Mickey aren’t the result of Disney meddling and more the Smash team wanting to avoid people using it as proof that characters like Goku or Spongebob could get into the game. They probably wanted to be 100% absolute on their vision of “only video game characters” in-game. I think the Keyblade having the Mickey emblem is just for the sake of accuracy to the design. Removing it would kind of be like removing the M from Mario’s hat.
That doesn't make any sense because if Disney appear would only be as an image, people want Goku and Spongebob in Smash as playable characters, show images of Disney characters doesn't change that, if they use a word from KH that was inspired on a Disney movie maybe you would have a point there, but we didn't even has that.
@@DarkHeartTheEmo Look at it from the Smash team's perspective. If they include a character as just a stage cameo, that's still technically adding a non-video game character to the main game. Sakurai said before that Smash is only for video game characters and since we don't know exactly what he meant by that it could mean that even adding them as cameos would be adding them to the game. (People also tried to claim Goku could be in the game since Dracula was technically a book character before Castlevania, too.)
@@Shi_gai Again with Dracula is different when is just an image is fine, with Dracula was different,they have a design that move and have the attacks and that Dracula is the one from the games instead from the book or movies, besides the way they did this is even worse because what they use is something that is real, like the one with Aqua and Xion and I repeat again those Disney character would not be playable, they would just be an image nothing else nothing more.

Actually, i think it’s not because of Disney’s stubbornness there’s no Disney in Smash
It’s because the Smash team wanted to stay as strictly Video Game as possible, which meant staying away from Disney
As for the fountain of memory things, it’s likely Smash just didn’t want to buy extra copyrights no one was gonna pay a lot of attention to during gameplay

Greninja becomes Ash-Greninja in his Final Smash, Ash-Greninja is literally just a special form for Ash's Greninja, yes, there was an event where you could get him in the videogames, but then the Disney characters should count too anyways, because they're in Kingdom Hearts, a motherfucking game

I think having no Disney characters in Smash may have been a conscious discussion by Sakurai because it would break his rule of Smash being purely being a video game crossover.
Well lucario came out on the pokémon anime First so the rule is already kinda broken
@@dumbmemesidk Lucario's appearance in the anime was meant to promote Diamond and Pearl. Despite appearing in the anime first, it was specifically created as a game character. The same can't be said about the Disney characters, who existed for decades prior to Kingdom Hearts.

the symbols on terra's dive to the heart are a wayfinder (the star looking thing), which aqua gives to him after the birth by sleep tutorial, and terra's mark, which is a symbol that everyone who trained at the land of departure has on their clothes. terra's mark is even in the center of the wayfinders that aqua made

I actually think its the other way around with Disney in smash. Sakurai wanted as little as Disney since Disney is an animation company not a video game company. The Mickey chain would be video game original since its on Soras key chain. On top of that when crediting Kingdom hears Disney has to be involved no matter what

There's one more fact about Sora that you don't know about, if you have Sora holding a Killing Edge or a Photon Sword and do a forward Smash attack, he'll use it with a back hand a good reference to Ventus since he wields his Keyblade back handed
The Dragon Quest music being non remixed is probably intentional due to the composer being notoriously against the orchestral versions being used outside his concerts which was why the trailer for Hero uses the orchestral versions but the in game smash songs are the midi versions.
This also makes Hero's trailer one of the few to use music that cannot be heard in smash alongside Little Mac's trailer, Terry's (with arashi no saxophone) and Jokers
Both Disney and Squenix are notoriously difficult to work with when it comes to their own properties, so it's nothing short of a miracle that Sora ever made it into Smash.
Ironically, it was Nintendo, the absolute strictest company of all in terms of copyright and IP protection, that made it possible. I dunno if this is a case of rivals overcoming boundaries together, or three bulls running against the same brick wall.

The origin behind the Dive to the Heart artwork in Smash is almost as complicated as the plot to the Kingdom Hearts games
I think the reason Disney did not allow Donald and Goofy in Smash is because they are not video games characters. They originated from a cartoon and Sakurai mention that smash is a celebration of video game icon. If they added in smash then people will say "How come they allowed Donald and Goofy but not Goku" also that will break one of Sakurai rule.
Is different because they could appear but not be playable, peope want Goku as a playabe character, if they appear in images is fine as long as they are not playable it still is inside the rules, besides the source would came from the games.

The arrow specifically looks like the movement arrows that appear when you need to move over something that doesn’t involve the normal walking animation, like jumping over something, walking over a tightrope, etc.
7:06 Just a couple of things about this general "Disney acting strange with licensing" section
1. I find it very hard to believe that Disney would opt out of advertising their cartoons to the largest audience in the gaming sphere at no cost to themselves. I assume that, once the Smash legal team was able to haggle Sora for a reasonable amount of money, they decided to not even bother attempting to license hard Disney properties due to the insane cost that it would take. Disney is not the kind of company to straight up refuse to place their IP on certain things for incredibly dumb reasons. The most likely answer is that their shit just costs far too much to license. They could obviously had just given Smash the rights for free, but its Disney, so its not going to happen. Keep in mind that Disney and Nintendo have a very 'cold' relationship at the moment. As such, licensing between the two would be incredibly taxing due to both parties wanting to get the 'better deal.' Contrasting this is Nintendo's relationship with Bandai Namco or SNK. These companies already have steady business relationships with Nintendo, so their immediate goal when licensing material isn't immediate profit.
2. Licensing isn't as simple as just two companies giving each other a thumbs up. A legal agreement (typically following a good couple months of intense legal discussions and bargaining) must be drafted to license the material. Furthermore, its not like a license gives the receiving company free reign to use the IP in every single field that it operates in. An IP license (at least one made by gigantozoid companies like Disney) is typically very strict about what can be made with them. A license to put Mickey Mouse on a lunchbox doesn't mean you get to put Mickey Mouse on a backpack. The coasters were likely the idea of the cafe managers, who I assume had basically no power to request any alterations to the license to include the coasters. The pin badges and posters for sale in the cafes were clearly a more involved portion of the collaboration between Square Enix and Disney, so they could have the Disney characters on them. Why would Disney would allow their stuff to be used on pin badges and posters, but then arbitrarily draw the line at coasters?
In short, Disney's licensing decisions aren't petty, stingy, or nonsensical. They're just trying to squeeze as much money out of everything as humanly possible.

If I recall, Sora's Station of Awakening with the raft and the fruit was also used in the KH concert.
I find it neat that the Inklings match the player colors, albeit out of order and red swapped with magenta probably because Splatoon doesn't have red ink and red ink wouldn't look very pg.
And I'm surprised the Inkling's ink makes Timeless River Sora's face disappear since those usually at least keeps the eyes of the characters affected, but there's probably some weird quirk with that skin. I need to see though if TR Sora has glowing eyes for Final Smashes or parries

I've got one where you have to find what characters have alike: Joker, Pikachu, Toon link, Mewtwo, Marth, Lucina, Sephiroth, Young link, Greninja, Roy, Chrom, Kirby, Shulk, Sonic, Pichu, Snake, Ness, Link, Sheik, Rosalina & luma, and Jigglypuff.

Inkling can also change the color of a Kirby attack depending on a character slot even if it's kinda different because you don't actually choose the color
I'd imagine stage hazards would also encompass any visual distractions, since in competitive matches, even the smallest thing could throw you off your game.
Which is kind of weird since Final Destination, supposedly every competitive player's favorite stage, has some REALLY wild background animations happening in both Smash 4 and Ultimate that you'd think would be just as distracting as Hollow Bastion's thing.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say the scrubbing of Mickey, Donald and Goofy wasn't ENTIRELY Disney's mandate: Sakurai has stated that characters with origins outside of gaming are never going to be a part of Smash. And I guess Dracula KINDA flouts that rule, but clearly Disney's flagship characters are a different beast than Bram Stoker literature.
The Castlevania Dracula has pretty much become his own thing, I think. He's got his own independent lore and all.
Of course the Kingdom Hearts stage has some ridiculous origins. Like the app that is canon to KH3

the kingdom hearts franchise is owned by Disney and that included all original characters, keyblades and worlds, also, the reason why mickey, donald and goofy weren't allowed in smash is because they do not originate from video games and sakurai himself said characters that do not originate from video games are not allowed to be in smash, that includes video game versions of non-video game characters
The fact that Delfino Plaza takes a minimum of 6 minutes to complete exploring 8/9 of the landable areas in Delfino Plaza, is a useless fact.
I love that Kingdom Hearts merchandise and Smash representation is almost as needlessly complicated as Kingdom Hearts itself.

I’m glad that FF7R got some representation in the form of Sephiroth’s tiny arrow having the same scheme as the FF7R UI for blade dash/Octaslash. Granted, it’s a VERY minor inclusion, but it’s something.
Xion got her name from the naming convention Organization members have where they take their true form's name and scramble it after adding an X. Sora -> r o X a s. (Cause X is their letter. And it's also the Greek letter for 'key'. The X-blade they're trying to forge is the ultimate 'key'-blade)
But because the Organizasion wanted wanted a backup keyblade weilder for their plan they created a fake one using Sora's memories of Kairi after Namine stole them (long story), cause memories are super important in KH. She was Experiment Number One or No.1. Or No.i, cause Roman Numerals/ Greek Alphabet are also important. So add an X and you get Xion. It also sticks to the water naming convention that the female characters have. Kairi means sea in japanese, nami from Namine means wave in japanese, Aqua is Latin for water. Shio from Xion (Shi-on) means tide in Japanese.
But the saddest part about her name is how the 'i' in her 'name' is written. It's like an imaginary number. She's a replica. Forged from someone else's memories. When she dies everyone forgets she exists.

regarding your question about the significance of Hollow Bastion, it's actually one of THE MOST important worlds in Kingdom Hearts.
1) it's the place where the Emblem Heartless were originally made (any Heartless that isn't just a black thing with glowy yellow eyes is an Emblem... named for the X'd out heart logo on them)
2) it's the place where all but a few of the Final Fantasy cameo characters are from in Kingdom Hearts
3) it's the second-to-last world in KH1, the second (and hub) in KH2, and an important world in many games in the series.
4) it's the world that the main girl of the main games, Kairi, is from
5) it's the base of operations for the Disney villains in 1 and the former base of operations of The Organization (the villains from Chain of Memories forward in the series)
so yeah... the only place that might compete for importance is MAYBE Destiny Islands (Sora's homeworld, and the homeworld of the series's villain)
Assists triggering the Stamina Easter Egg makes sense, since your party members in KH can theoretically land the killing blow... At which point the same effect occurs. Team members not triggering it, or the pitch-shifting based on size, are oddities though.

This video is a good example of how ridiculous the kingdom hearts franchise gradually has become, if you pay attention to the names of the games you can clearly tell that this series has lots of weird not number title games, basically the most recent game besides melody of memory was 3 despite the fact that it's like the 13th instalation in the series, as well as all the relations and ridiculous references such as the coasters is really crazy and convoluted.
Don't get me wrong even tho it's crazy convoluted and weird I still absolutely love this series and highly recommend it to everyone, just play the games in order of release and you'll be fine, because that's the order the story was written, not linear no no, release dare wise

They edited the actual artwork to make Riku have no cards in his hand so that his hand was outstretched, a very iconic pose of his, it's the spirit in smash too, and his symbol around the station was changed from crown shaped cards to the symbol of the series, the big swirly heart
