Download Opera GX for FREE: mtchm.de/o79pf EDIT: Gonna address some comments I've been seeing. 1. Apparently that Puff tech is not only useful, but generally common knowledge for a lot of folk. Didn't know about that! When I was more involved in the competitive scene and actually watching the game, Puff wasn't a part of the viable set of characters, so I'd never learned about this tech. Pretty cool! 2. For the Mii Brawler tip, no that is not rage. Rage is not present in Training Mode unless the "staling" option is turned on (which it wasn't) 3. People are saying that Olimar's Pikmin do more DAMAGE when they're fully bloomed. I guess this would mean, faster ATTACK speed? Though on Twitter, I've already seen someone confirm that the Pikmin are faster in run speed too, very slightly. It's crazy. 4. Yes, this video isn't as comprehensive a list of interesting tips as it could've been. I tried my best to make a good selection, but I tried to avoid any information that I've already gone over on the channel, as well as some information that I just didn't think was interesting enough. It's hard to determine what to include and not include in these types of videos, so I normally just go with my gut, and how surprised some of the facts made me. Glad to see a lot of people learning various things, though! Thanks for watching :)
Just want to point out that Steve has 60 tips, which is the most tips for any character. That includes Pokemon Trainer (32), Hero (33), and even Kazuya (52).
Jigglypuff’s tilt on side b is actually extremely important. Tilting it up when hitting shield can make many out of shield options miss Jigglypuff, and hitting people with downward angled pound can have different combo routes than upward.
Shows how much I know! I don't watch a lot of Melee, and in the times I watched more competitive Smash, Puff wasn't a part of the typical character viability charts, so she rarely appeared. This combined with how I rarely ever use her, and I just never knew about this! Super cool to see that it actually has really important use, thanks for the reply!
Fun fact: Dr. Mario is one of the only characters in Ultimate to have one of their tips changed in a patch. In vanilla Ultimate, one of his tips referred to his down air as "Bone Drill." This is likely because many tips were ported from Smash 4, where his down air was a spinning drill kick like Jigglypuff's. Since Doc's down air was changed to a stomp going from Smash 4 to Ultimate, the name didn't fit anymore, so a patch later on changed the tip, now calling it "Clear!" in reference to a defibrillator.
8:52 Mii Brawler's Counter also has differences depending on if they're grounded or not when countering, though it doesn't effect launch power or damage, but instead launch *angle*
The counter grab hitbox is drastically bigger when used in the air, to the point where it can outrange byleth forward smash Idk man, the way this character is programmed is so wacky
10:06 there was an event challenge in brawl that required you to keep a few Pikmin alive until they bloomed, I remember just because of how long it took me as a kid haha
About the Jigglypuff Pound fact, Izaw showed me that you can actually tilt it towards Jigglypuff to decrease the distance or away from Jigglypuff to increase the distance. And yes, tilting pound does affect some rest combos :)
I only learned about the headshot of Marth Neutral b a week ago as well haha I would recommend anyone looking to use Kazuya or complicated characters to look up the tips because not only does it tell you the inputs he can do, but all the minor effects such as if it has invincibility on any spot or things like that
@@kdevelopergw Obviously. But he's saying it's neat because R.O.B. is a robot, and thus using programming language in the name of a move makes total sense.
i mod the game sometimes and aerial attacks are always named internally using the structure “attack_air_(type of aerial here)” n for neutral air f for forward air hi for up air lw for down air and b for back air so the fact that rob’s nair is officially named “airN” makes me very happy
Did you know K. Rool does a flip in his down air? It’s just another missable animation. Also Mii Brawler punches twice during thrust uppercut, delivering another blow for the final hit.
I'm surprised to see the Jigglypuff pound mentioned here. I thought this was common knowledge. In Melee, angling it up is required if you want to jump from the bottom platform of Temple to the upper platform. You could also use this technique to just stall in midair. She'll lose height, but very, very slowly. If you want to time out a match, this is a great way to do it.
I believe they were in Sm4sh so maybe they just copied and pasted the tip even though it's no longer true. Course I could be wrong and they aren't invincible in Sm4sh either.
Onslaught is more complicated than that, actually. That "Aura" effect will go away for a bit of time after using the move once, and it'll become a normal weaker move for some time. I don't know why they implemented such anti-spam for the move when it already has so much endlag and doesn't activate on shield, though.
my favorite tip is the one for Dedede Inhale (Neutral Special) - *Dedede is already perfect,* so his Inhale won't copy abilities. Instead, it has a longer range than Kirby's.
When you mentioned Fox's Up Air, I remembered that the sound effect for when the move connects is unique compared to a lot of his other moves, and smash moves in general, but it is shared with his down tilt, another attack which uses his tail (I think, correct me if I'm wrong)
Pound-stalling has been a really important part in Melee's competitive scene (the mostly bad, stalling one) and I'm genuinely surprised there's still people out there that DON'T know that you could tilt Puff's Side B
Fun fact about the blue coming pikmins: in brawl there was s mission for that. You needed to keep all 6 pikmins and make them survive till there floor wer bloomed
Fun little tidbit of Robin stuff from my experience as maining the character: Tilt attacks make it so you automatically use bronze sword in the air, but pressing both A and B automatically makes it a Levin attack, even if you have the setting off! I know from trying to disable it because I always panic and press b while doing aerials even without a jump
12:40 another fun fact is for some reason onslaught's final hit sets your weight to 100, which results in certain characters, like bowser, dying before fox does
Here's one that I found recently from Sora's tip list, if you use Sonic Blade (his Side B) off-stage and keep holding B during the third dash, Sora will automatically be sent towards the ledge.
When the onslaught boost is ready the Mii Brawler's foot will glow pink for a moment. It's good to keep in mind because as the tip says, the boosted version has a cooldown.
Rising Pound is actually very well known... in the Melee community. It's so broken for recovery that it allows Jiggs to make the Temple Jump in reverse.
Did you know Steve/Alex have the most tips listed with exactly 60 entries? It covers lots of details even some competitive players don't know! 26 Tips on Neutral Special (More than some other fighters entire tip list) 10 Tips on Side Special 5 Tips on Up Special 6 Tips on Down Special 7 Tips on other attacks like ones that use iron or tools
9:44 The tip mentions movement speed, not thrown speed. Pay attention to when the flower Pikmin and non-flower Pikmin are thrown together, and you can see that the Flower one comes BACK faster in comparison.
A random facts about in game tips that are just flat out incorrect could be fun… Like the one about Luigi’s final smash in the video for one, the one about Charizard’s invincibility during his uptilt, the one about the number of games that actually have Link’s name in them, and probably many more that I don’t know of
It was 5 games Link had his name in according to the tips, right? There was Zelda 2/Adventure of Link, A Link to the Past, Link's Awakening, A Link Between Worlds, and Link: Faces of Evil on the CDi. Oh, Link's Crossbow Training too. That's 6, 7 if you wanted to count the Link's Awakening remake.
I don't know if you've already covered this in the Random Smash Facts series, or if you will continue with it, but here's a fun fact about Spirits: The Azura Spirit increases Weapon damage output and movement speed, and takes two slots. However, both of her effects are worse than those provided by Spirits that give only one of them and take just 1 slot each. That means you're better off equipping a Speed-increasing Spirit and a Weapon-boosting Spirit than equipping Azura, both because you get better effects from them AND because Azura's Spirit inflates your Spirit Power way more (which makes you potentially get worse rewards). Well, at least this was the case in 2019 when I last tested it, but it's likely that it has remained unchanged after all this time, as it doesn't seem like they tweak Spirits.
They do tweak spirits sometimes, but I don't know if they've ever changed support effects. I remember seeing that Soma Cruz and K.K. Slider got their stats nerfed in a patch (I understand nerfing Soma but I have no idea why K.K. was nerfed, it isn't that good of a spirit)
@@supernutz1262 Yeah, I know about those tweaks to Soma Cruz and K.K Slider, but those were super early into the game's life-span. K.K. Slider was nerfed because his display Spirit Power was higher than that of Tabuu, which gave rise to many memes about K.K. Slider being stronger than Tabuu according to Smash Ultimate. So I guess the devs caught that and decided to nerf K.K. Slider's stats to have his Power Level decreased below that of Tabuu. [Note that Tabuu's stats were always higher than those of K.K. Slider, but the latter has a built-in effect, and that effect inflates its Spirit Power; this caused K.K. Slider to have more Spirit Power than Tabuu, despite having lower stats. With the nerf, K.K. Slider's stats were decreased in such a way to have his Spirit Power remain below Tabuu's despite the inflation provided by his built-in effect]
Something I never knew 'til very recently is that Shulk's counter attack has two variations. If you hold forward when it's activated, he'll pass the opponent then hit them backwards.
@@weegee61 The reveal trailer that came out in 2014 or so? I didn't have internet back then, my dad is a caveman lmao. Even if I did see it, I'd probably not remember anyway. My memory is really bad.
You'd think I'd just know about the mechanic given I have 2000 hours in Ultimate and probably had 1000 or so in 4, but I feel like I have never seen anyone use the backwards counter. No cpus, no real people, so I figured I'd share in case there were people like me who still didn't know. I mean, there's a lot in the game, you can't ever know everything.
I don’t know if a lot of people know this but Dedede can regrab gordos by either hitting attack or side special as the gordo comes back at you. The grab range is about the size of his ftilt and goes a little bit behind him too. You can also regrab the gordo and throw it behind you if you do a cstick ftilt in the opposite direction or bair at the right time. It’s really helpful and can sometimes be better than just shielding the reflected gordo.
I've got an interesting character tip! If you play Smash in Japanese, Bayonetta's long hair costumes will have her speak in English, whereas her short hair costumes will have her speak Japanese. That's why Bayonetta shows up twice in the voice sound test screen!
Isn't it the other way around? Not fully sure which one you mean but by long hair I'm guessing you mean the Bayonetta 1 outfit and for short hair the Bayonetta 2 outfit aka her default. If so then it's the short haired that has the Japanese clips while the long hair has English, and the reason why (I think but don't quote me on it) is because Bayonetta 1 was actually not dubbed to Japanese and had only English for voiceover while the second game did get dubbed. Neat little detail for Japanese gamers to appreciate
3:00 idk if you all seen the neutral air of yoshi because this is what shocked me the most. I always thought yoshi uses both feet to kick but it's only one big foot and the other one is just on the side which looks really awkward
Pikmin blooming was a thing since Brawl, and there was even a whole challenge dedicated to keeping a collection of them alive long enough for them to all bloom. And yes, it does affect their speed.
For Ice Climbers' Iceberg vs Polar Bear launch power, it could be an instance of "base knockback" vs "knockback growth". It looks like the Polar Bear has more base knockback, making the tip true at low percents, but the iceberg has more knockback growth, making it stronger at higher percents. Maybe it's an oversight/oversimplification in the wording of the tip, or maybe the iceberg was buffed at some point in development and they forgot to apply that to the polar bear as well.
I’m fairly certain the change in speed for Pikmin with flowers refers to when you whistle them, how quickly they return to Olimar. I’m slightly less certain but still convinced that a flower pikmin has less startup and less endlag on aerials.
The only reason I knew Fox used his tail in his up air, was because I was making a spirit team for him, I added foot attack, and then realized part of his up air wasn't powered up
Hey im not sure if you pointed it out in a previous video, but the tips with Pikachu and Pichu's side B moves being enhanced with a smash input also applies to Luigi as well. He goes further than normal
With falcos blaster, it actually used to be WAY faster back then. I feel like they decided to tone it down but still keep it there, just to make sure he isn't totally changed.
I main Roy/Chrom and Robin and I had no clue about their weak Ariel counters and Robins Ariel A+B commands. This was very informative and maybe might win me a game or two with this to be honest.
Did you know there is an other version of fighter tips/techniques menu if you go to *HELP* in the dashboard in the home menu, then go to *TECHNIQUES* and it will lead you to a list of listed moves such as fundamentals like rolling and perfect shielding, as well as unique fighter abilities It even comes with animated GIFs as demonstration!
its pretty cool that characters have a head hitbox, i was thinking of a move for golisopod based on throat chop where if it hits the head, the target crumples, good to know thats a realistic possibility
Actually important gameplay facts I didn't know until years into ultimate: -to make MegaMan walk with the leaf shield like in smash 4, you have to hold the b button in. I thought for a long time they just reworked the move so he instantly shot it out -Lucario and Shulk's counters have 2 variants depending on which direction you hold. -Greninjas counter attack angle is based on what you input, not the inverse knock back angle of the attack you countered
Only knew that Mega Man one because of the amount of spriit battles Mega Man is in. Super weird that they changed it, especially considering the weird start-up and the fact that it's called leaf-shield.
Before watching this video, something tells me I'm gonna know a lot of these already because I like reading the tips EDIT: okay i did not know of luigi's vacuum, the polar bear hitbox, roy's counter, robin's final smash, sephiroth's final smash sorta, and mii brawler's onslaught. I think these are still good results since I knew pretty much everything else lol
I knew of most except Luigi's vacuum, Captain Falcon's pose, Roy's Counter, Mii Brawler's first Side B being stronger by their damage (I know it has a cooldown to regain its power too which is indicated by a purple flash, idk how much common knowledge that is) and Sephiroth's status limitations. I did read all the tips a while back out of boredom but I forgot a good chunk, and it was halfway through Fighters Pass 1 so any DLC after that I'm not so sure. I probably should read them again
So I knew about the Fox up air, but Bayonetta having that timer effect was completely new and it just makes me appreciate this game more. Same for the Pikmin blooming thing even if it is very subtle.
Every time I hear the outro I have to pause the video to make sure there isn’t currently an unannounced storm going on outside my house because the side of the headphones that the thunder noises come through is in the same direction of my window lmao
I also kind of found out that the little spike from the Mii Brawler's onslaught ability before the final kick, can actually meteor off stage, but the knockback is the same no matter what percentage the other character has.
Ex-Puff Main (Now Secondary) here! Pound up/down drifting is used in 3 regards: - Spacing her side-b’s if she wants to be close to the ground for follow ups - Combos (e.g. Pound Up can lead into D-air easier than Pound Neutral) - Recovery, Pound’s animation stops her where she is and lets her move again, so Pound Up is used for higher vertical gain
I know this is an old video, and people have probably already mentioned this, but in the Pikmin games the flower mechanic is also present. It's also rather important - it increases their speed _and_ strength significantly. The speed difference is rather obvious when you get a group of leaved pikmin and a group of flowered pikmin to follow you. The flowered pikmin will follow much closer to your player character, basically matching your speed or even surpassing it, while the leaved pikmin will lag behind significantly, as they are a bit slower than you. The strength buff is very useful against bosses, and it's well worth getting flowered pikmin, or at least budded ones, before any major boss fights.
I knew for the fox up air fact because the sound effect made me think the first hit wasn’t his foot. I find it interesting how the sound effect made me understand how the move works
this was a pretty cool video, I would only say that I feel like it should have been a little longer there are some other facts that I think are pretty interesting but I'm not complaining anymore than that

Something I never knew 'til very recently is that Shulk's counter attack has two variations. If you hold forward when it's activated, he'll pass the opponent then hit them backwards.
They legit show that in Shulk’s trailer
@@weegee61 The reveal trailer that came out in 2014 or so? I didn't have internet back then, my dad is a caveman lmao. Even if I did see it, I'd probably not remember anyway. My memory is really bad.
You'd think I'd just know about the mechanic given I have 2000 hours in Ultimate and probably had 1000 or so in 4, but I feel like I have never seen anyone use the backwards counter. No cpus, no real people, so I figured I'd share in case there were people like me who still didn't know. I mean, there's a lot in the game, you can't ever know everything.
@@Perisqinkle That's weird because I believe it's more powerful it just has a higher chance to miss
shulk with the crossup
7:29 it’s actually only one frame less at the end as well. You forgot to account for the next shot coming out a frame earlier.
Onslaught also has a sort of cooldown mechanic. When Mii Brawler’s foot glows, that means it’s at max strength. It’s a weird move.
I never knew there was a kick to fox’s up air honestly. I just thought it was a tail swipe with two hits for some reason
@@ManuCarrotman312 Whoops! That's what I meant to type. Thanks for pointing that out!!
I actually thought Fox's up air was ONLY a tail hit. I had no idea he kicked during that animation.
Bruh
🗿
The only reason I knew Fox used his tail in his up air, was because I was making a spirit team for him, I added foot attack, and then realized part of his up air wasn't powered up
You didn't mention marth's side b angled up "netting you kills" tip
Marth's up angled side b kills at like 400% with the tipper.
yeah, I was also curious as to why they used that wording. I think maybe they mean you can follow up the Up-B with another attack or something.
2:52 I don't even play this game and I knew this, because it's been like that ever since Melee.
Ditto
Hey im not sure if you pointed it out in a previous video, but the tips with Pikachu and Pichu's side B moves being enhanced with a smash input also applies to Luigi as well. He goes further than normal
11:27 I also didn't know that the clock animation showed the time left, you are not alone
3:20 I straight up never noticed this
4:04 Cool transition
This was very cool and helpful, and I’m proud of you going a little outside your comfort zone (not entirely, but it’s different enough). Very epic.
I always love seeing my favourite UA-camrs get sponsors.
marths tips also state that dancing blade up 4 is a good kill move, however it doesn’t kill pichu at 200
Don't worry, I didn't know the Witch Time visual had utility either :)
This is the first time a sponsor has been useful that applied to me. Thank you
Okay, I think the Opera GX browser is the first UA-camr ad that has actually worked.
Did you know there is an other version of fighter tips/techniques menu if you go to *HELP* in the dashboard in the home menu, then go to *TECHNIQUES* and it will lead you to a list of listed moves such as fundamentals like rolling and perfect shielding, as well as unique fighter abilities
It even comes with animated GIFs as demonstration!
11:42 I have been playing Bayonetta for years and I didn't know this. This actually helps a ton now that I think about it 😭
By the way, the Smash imput side special works with Luigi too
I'm here to make fun of you for the Bayonetta thing.
You FOOL!
its pretty cool that characters have a head hitbox, i was thinking of a move for golisopod based on throat chop where if it hits the head, the target crumples, good to know thats a realistic possibility
12:14 Sans' head on anyone or anything other than Sans himself is just so cursed
The thumbnail is amazing!
Actually important gameplay facts I didn't know until years into ultimate:
-to make MegaMan walk with the leaf shield like in smash 4, you have to hold the b button in. I thought for a long time they just reworked the move so he instantly shot it out
-Lucario and Shulk's counters have 2 variants depending on which direction you hold.
Before watching this video, something tells me I'm gonna know a lot of these already because I like reading the tips
EDIT: okay i did not know of luigi's vacuum, the polar bear hitbox, roy's counter, robin's final smash, sephiroth's final smash sorta, and mii brawler's onslaught.
It took me 3 years to find out that Diddy holds his hat at the peak of the Peanut Popgun, very small but cool thing to look out for
I also kind of found out that the little spike from the Mii Brawler's onslaught ability before the final kick, can actually meteor off stage, but the knockback is the same no matter what percentage the other character has.
8:13
"Snipin's a good job, mate."
Marth: i stabbed him in the head!
Kirby: yes, but actually No
12:13 There's also the rage mechanic to account for, so it's a bit harder to say how much the move is actually boosting the knockback.
For the last tip it could just be affected by rage
3:57 No Smash That Like Button Segway? 😢
Just want to mention Kirby doesn’t need a whole head hurtbox, he needs every help he can get
You should make another video like this, even if they’re just lore-based tips!
5:30
And changing the direction doesn't affect the hitbox of pound. It just changes where she is. But it is widely known and used for puff players
I did know about Marth’s headshot mechanic, as well as a bunch of other things, but I didn’t know about a good amount of things here. Awesome.
Yes, professional jigglypuffs do use rising pounds, but I don't know about lowering pounds.
The levin sword tip was honestly mind blowing
I love just going through the tips sometimes
Another fact about mii brawler onslaught, the move actually ignores weight entirely, meaning it kills pichu and bowser at the same percent.
wow
Ex-Puff Main (Now Secondary) here! Pound up/down drifting is used in 3 regards:
- Spacing her side-b’s if she wants to be close to the ground for follow ups
- Combos (e.g. Pound Up can lead into D-air easier than Pound Neutral)
- Recovery, Pound’s animation stops her where she is and lets her move again, so Pound Up is used for higher vertical gain
Here's a tip for you, you can make a custom stage with wind going upwards to test out aerial tips so you don't have to precisely time it.
I knew for the fox up air fact because the sound effect made me think the first hit wasn’t his foot. I find it interesting how the sound effect made me understand how the move works
The onslaught mechanic is probably just rage.
rage typically doesn't have that big of a impact least not for a midweight
You can have rage turned off in training room
Hey, I used to think Donkey Kong's down air was a punch for so, so, so long
one of my favourite tips is the one for King Dedede's Inhale telling you that it doesn't copy abilities because Dedede is already Perfect
Bowser Jr always took more damage on his head, I guess he's not special
10:24 I'm pretty sure that's just how fast the tome recharges, still pretty cool to see Robin featured in this video!
But the tome doesn't charge if its not depleted, unless the final smash is used. Also, nosferatu takes what, 40 seconds?
this was a pretty cool video, I would only say that I feel like it should have been a little longer there are some other facts that I think are pretty interesting but I'm not complaining anymore than that
I find it weird that Luigi tips still say his Down B can go higher by mashing. It doesn't do that in Ultimate. I hope they fix this bug/typo
Congrats on the Opera GX sponsor. It's been my favorite browser for a couple of years now 👍
Oh, I've been using Opera GX for quite a while now, and was sad they didn't have a mobile version before. Really nice to see that they do now. Also, nice sponsor lol
Really cool to see a video on in-game tips too. I love going through them sometimes, and it's hard to catch everything in one reading session.
I think the olimar tip is referring to the pikmin following olimar on the ground
2:30
Also works against Zelda's final smash
Nice move putting a video about using tips right by the end of November
I was excited for this
Also wow I'm first
