    Problem is many of these frame flex repairs aren’t holding up over time. Saw several videos of owners confirming this. The Momentum’s seem to be the worst

    After watching so many video's of so many different manufacturing problems seems like a viral infection in the R V world . I would never buy one of any brand period life is to damn short to put up with such incompetence in every aspect of the problem .Happy R Vying you guys stay safe and happy trails.

    So, great you got these things fixed, however, this does not bode well for the original "Design" of the frame. So how man other units have the same issues...Engineering problems?

    That whole there's nothing wrong but will still fix it as a courtesy thing always cracks me up. That's basically them just weaseling out of taking responsibility for a problem.

    Does anyone make a good reliable rv anymore? I thought GD was decent but missing bolts and all the steel they needed to add is somewhat worrisome. I was planning on upgrading my 2007 Jayco but from what Ive been reading and watching there just seems to be too many issues out there will ALL the manufactures, and Liebert frames which many manufactures use. And Jayco the family owned business is now owned by a huge comgloberant, Thor Industries. I think I’ll keep my old Jayco for now and wait and see who can produce a quality unit or maybe I’ll just give up.. We’ll see.

    I honestly wonder if anyone else (without their own UA-cam channel) would get the same kind of service?
    I'm very happy you're back on the road but it's hard not to think as I am about this.

      There were many rigs there for various repairs at the service center. As far as I know, we were the only ones there with a channel at that time. Others stated the same though, that they recieved repairs they did not request or know about. The Grand Design service center does seem to repair everything they find no matter whose rig they are working on.

    • @HappyPlaceDiaries
      @HappyPlaceDiaries Рік тому +1

    I find it quite odd that they let you film but then later told you that you were not allowed to use it. What did they think you were filming for? They knew you were a UA-cam channel. Makes me wonder what they are trying to cover up

      Right! They let others use footage of their repairs in videos but you're right. There's something they don't want seen with our repairs. Without video transparency, they are leaving themselves open for speculation.

    You guys are happy because they exposed and repaired all the things they should have done in the original manufacturing process? Can you imagine what these repair guys must think of the stock manufacturing? For you to be happy that you bought a POS that was refitted to be what it should’ve been in the first place is…well… can’t imagine the surprises in store for you in the coming months… happy trails‼️👍

    Thank you for posting this and the follow-up. We have a 2022 310GKR and are headed to Elkhart factory for repairs. Have broken all lower filon trim screws on door side, screws keep dropping from somewhere near closet, closet does not close when rig is leveled, and we keep blowing Goosebox pressure relief valves. After watching your videos, I went out today and checked the decals. Same wrinkles but opposite side. We had a major suspension breakdown in Glacier National Park (6 of us with the 8K suspension upgrade). Christine has been marvelous to work with. Hoping we get a similar resolution. Dexter and LCI refused to cover the suspension issues. GD covered it all when we were 2,000 miles from home.

    Thanks for this video. Our RV was in the Alliance RV factory in Elkhart for almost 3 weeks before we even got our first update on what was being done. By that time they had only just started working on it and we had a scheduled delivery date just like you. After 3 weeks they agreed to buy it back but not before trying to bribe us to take down our UA-cam video that detailed all the problems we had. Glad to hear that Grand Design did better by you guys!

    I have a 2 year old Grand Design Travel Trailer that so far has been great. What little interface that we have had with GD has been great. I am so glad that Grand Design fixed your problems and then much more. You didn't buy a 5th wheel you bought a Grand Design and they cam through for you in the end. The lesson here is keep pushing until you get the support you need. GD knows their product and is best suited to fix your problem. RV dealers are overwhelmed and cannot do work in a timely manner if at all. Maybe one day this will improve but for now....

    I own a Grand Design fifth wheel model 320 MKS made in 2021. Customer service does and good job taking care of my few issues and questions. I called G D customer service about one of my support plates bending at the driver's side slide out and told them how I straightened out the bend and added extra support to the plate. I then told them about your last video on your issues on your trailer and suggested very strongly that G D better take care of your issues because their reputation was on the line and bad press can really hurt the brand name. I also suggest to you and your wife attend a G D rally . G D sends technicians to rallies and have good Q and A sessions with good info. P S. I have been repairing trailers professionally for 44 years. I bought G D based on my past experience with C S for my customers and I liked G D workmanship.

    Great informative Videos! in May of last year, my wife and I purchased a new 2022 Momentum 398M. We have had so many issues with this trailer but, GDRV has warranty covered most of the issues. My original list of problems contained 33 items! My second list contained 8 additional items. Our biggest issue has been with the authorized repair center in our area. The trailer has been in the shop for a grand total of about 6 months. We are hoping that GDRV will take care of us like they did you guys. That's awesome that they fixed items that were not on your list. Makes me wonder if ours has many of the same underlying problems. On that note, GDRV has authorized the complete replacement of our generator door and frame. The only way we can latch it is to firmly push the door to the right. The service center destroyed the bottom of the frame and seal when installing the generator. We have Liked and have subscribed to your channel. Your videos are very well presented. Thanks!

      BTW...we also had screw heads popping up through the linoleum in the bedroom. GDRV authorized that repair. However, we've found a couple more in the last couple months. 😟 Our floor in the bedroom is also creaking and getting worse. The repair facility foreman told me that he talked with a contact at GDRV and was told that this behavior is "normal wear-and-tear". I don't believe that because we've only used the trailer 4 times over the course of this past year.

      @TravelsAbound  Рік тому

      Sorry to hear of your similar issues, but we're glad they have stood behind their warranty so far. Those screw heads working their way up underneath the vinyl unfortunately seems to be a very common issue after talking to many of our viewers. We started noticing the screw heads after 6 months and 8k miles into ownership. I wish they would solve this problem across the board. Thank you for the sub and watching! Good luck and safe travels!

    There was a comment that basically said Lippert does most of the frame for the RV industry.
    I have even read about pull behinds encountering frame problems as well.
    I am really glad to hear after a shortish battle you were able to get the problem fixed and that they went above and beyond to really give your beautiful rig a thorough going over and fixed unknown issues.
    We really love Grand Design products.
    I hope for ALL RV manufacturers Lippert can get back on track with a QUALITY frame.
    Sorry for your down time.

Lippert makes all the frames on fifth wheels, my opinion if Lippert built these frames for grand design and did not consult with them on the structural integrity and service life of these campers then they most certainly didn’t consult with other builders!

    Glad you got everything fixed including the stuff you didn't know about. I'm also glad you posted the videos to bring the problems to light as others have done. Sad part to me as a mechanical engineer is these issues shouldn't be happening at all. One RV with frame issues is one thing and deserves a microscopic look to see what happened but multiple RV's with the exact same problem should initial a change in their structural department (or Lipperts) to stop this problem. Eliminating the problem is less expensive and less damaging to your reputation in the long run than continuing to build frames that will fail. One of these days one will fail catastrophically and someone will get hurt. I understand wanting to keep RV's as light as possible however, they are "too light" when they are failing under normal use. They don't have to be built to withstand a nuke attack but they need to be built heavy enough to withstand travel on our roads with a comfortable safety factor, and lets be honest many of our roads are in sad repair.
    My wife and I had a Northwood Arctic Fox bumper pull for 18 years with our 6 kids with not a problem. Sold it and bought a GD 297RSTS bumper pull in May because the kids are out and we wanted a floor plan better suited for two people. All in all it's very comfortable for the two of us but it is one super power hungry beast which I wasn't used to with our Arctic Fox. That's not a defect but rather a difference in design over the last 18 years with all the manufacturers.
    I've had to fix a few "minor" things on it after getting it home in May but so far it's working well. Let's hope it keeps working well.
    1. Had a leak in the shower skylight because the dome was cracked. A little more Dicor and it appears to be fixed. I also went around everything on the roof with a magnifying glass and added more Dicor in several places to make me feel better.
    2. Had a small plumbing leak at the back of the tankless water heater. Less than 1/8 turn on that nut and it stopped. Now I just need to fix the two little particle board baseboards that were damaged but I have a plan for that fix.
    3. Had loose water hoses connecting to the water pump so it was sucking air rather than pulling water from the tank. Tightened the connections and it works.
    4. Fresh water tank would be down by 1/3 to 1/2 when we arrived at our dry camping site after leaving home with a full tank. A little plumbing re-routing of the overflow and vent Pex plumbing to get them above the level of the water tank rather than below the tank fixed that problem. This one should never be a problem on any RV, it should never be plumbed like it was. Gravity works 100% of the time everywhere on the planet and the water would siphon out while driving. I did include this on a review to GD but no idea if it will be fixed going forward.
    5. No access hole from the factory in the side trim to allow me to access the spare tire crank nut with the provided tool without opening the slide over a foot. Picked up a grommet from the local GD dealer and drilled the 1" dia. hole and popped in the grommet.

    We're looking at GD, Alliance, Hensley, and East to West and from the stories you've told and what I'm seeing around the forums says that GD has some serious issues with their production line. It appears they do mostly quality work, but when you see the number of things that happened during the assembly of your unit, it now cast some serious doubts about buying their product. We live in Texas and so a trip to Indiana would be prohibitive just to get things fixed. This is beginning to sound like the experience we are having with Keystone on our current bumper pull. I've been monitoring other Facebook pages of the others listed and I don't see these types of complaints, either because they are smaller private companies and don't ship the volume that GD does. Thanks for the honest review which is probably going to have us looking at our other options.

This company tries to tell people they're a premium product but I think you've shown otherwise. They're no better than any other company out there. They're nothing but marketing hype. Think you guys were the only lucky ones that got a problematic unit? Think they'll get all the other units in their repair facility and do all this extensive work?

    • @caseypries7559
      @caseypries7559 Рік тому +1

      @@mberry7a great question. I think plain and simple it's a lack of training. Maybe some workers who don't care about the product? Some workers aren't as good as others when it comes to skill either and that's just a fact of life. Most of these brands don't do adequate quality control inspections and push it off on the dealer which I've never agreed with.

      From what I've read it's every manufacturer from 2020-2022. It would appear the market was so hot these companies were likely rushing orders and what happens when companies rush things? Is that something you noticed?

    The amount of steel and welding that GD did on your trailer seems to indicate that there is a design issue in these trailers. My guess is that Lippert built the frame based on the information that they were given from GD engineers such as weight, loading expectations, lateral stiffness required, where the tanks will be located, ect. It seems like they under-estimated dynamic loading, such a twisting motion, by alot.
    Glad you trailer is fixed. But, did GD tell you if all the metal that they added to your trailer is now incorporated into the trailers that are being delivered now from the factory. If not, then I question if they truly care about their customers.

      We purchased a Imagine Grand Design travel trailer late camping season last year so we used it a couple of times and winterized it for winter.
      We stored it in my Dads backyard just like we have done for years with other campers never had a problem with Rodents, and never leave any food in RV when not in use.
      Went to start clean up washing the whole spring prep thing.
      When I opened up discovered we were infested with mice pooped peed on everything. They chewed into mattress bed spread, linnins towels and stuff. Had to throw out all probably cost us over 1000 dollars to remedy the situation and replace what we disposed of.
      We discovered with the slides in or out there was a nice hole big enough for mice in the corners if you get down low enough from. Inside you can see outside.
      Noted it with dealer when we took it in for warranty hit list at one year. Was turned down for a remedy for the holes, they said it was the Design to allow for drainage. My opinion poor design the weather strip seals did not cover well enough.
      We have opposing slides so we have to shimmy through up and over countertop someone small agile to stuff stainless steel Wool in the holes to block mouse holes. I also hang cab fresh bags at the out side of the two slide corners to hopefully detour the rodents. We have to do this stainless steel Wool thing Every time we run the slide in or out! 😳

    How do we get that kind of service? Our 2022 Solitude 375RES has so many problems I just about give up. Living room floor was sinking on one side and Mike Thompson’s RV in Colton California stabilized it crooked. I’m afraid to let them touch it again. The dealership we bought it at in Whitewood SD, did good work, but it had so many problems from the factory, they said they were closed October through November for training. Our warranty was to run out in December. We’re full timers and we offered to rent a house for a month, they didn’t want the unit back. Every dealership we call says they only repair three items at a time since we didn’t buy it there. And each time it sits for a month before being repaired. GD doesn’t respond to me when I email pictures, I have to try to get my worker. They’re wearing me out.

    Quick question, if I may. Did Gtand Design themselves do all your repairs or did a dealership do the repairs? Grand Design told us when we were just recently there, that they themselves were no longer able to do repairs, warranty, or recalls at their site. We were in the area to have our MORryde independent suspension installed on October 17th. Huge difference

    • @TravelsAbound
      @TravelsAbound  Рік тому +1

      I bet that independent suspension is awesome! The Grand Design service center located at 5200 Hoffman ST in Elkhart is where we had our repairs done. That is their new service facility and they take care of almost every issue there. But, as we shared previously, the first person we spoke with at customer service told me too that they do not do repairs there which was a lie. If you are still in the area and in need of service I'd recommend calling customer service again. Ask for either Chris (consumer relations manager) or Emily (service writer) and they will take care of you.

      @@TravelsAbound That is interesting because I visited the new Customer service building at that same address and they referred me to Royal RV and Autocenters to do the repairs. Hey guys ! :) How much flex do you think you have in inches ?

  • @dangarcia1989
    @dangarcia1989 Рік тому +2

    The point isn't that they took care of your issue.....although that is great. The issue is, that these things leave the factory in such a state of basically being unsafe, and not road worthy. I think big government stinks, but in this case, I believe the feds start needing to sniff around these RV manufacturers a little more. These things are as long as a lot of semis, and the feds would never allow a semi tractor to be on the road in the condition they sold you your RV in because of public safety. I love RVing, but believe the manufacturers are out of hand now. They through lack of quality control are selling unsafe products, and the regular public is unaware of this transgression. They are the LEAST regulated industry for vehicles that use public roadways, and are taking unfair advantage of it, sticking their customers in the process. Can you imagine an automaker doing this in this day and age where a frame or unibody had to be repaired on their vehicles straight from the factory? Me either! They would be litigated out of business quickly, and rightfully so.
    P.S. One more thing I would like to add--------------->GD orders the frames from Lippert to a certain spec. For instance, they may say they want the frame to carry 18000 pds. They test the frame to insure it does this, then GD orders x amount of frames for their builds. Once GD gets the frame, as long as Lippert built the frames to specs, it is on GD to decide what they put on that frame. Know that if this was a Lippert issue, GD would have no problem recalling the RVs because Lippert would be paying for the repairs, not them! Nope, I have a feeling GD didn't want Lippert to design an upgraded frame they had to pay for, so they pushed the limits on the build right to its tolerance, or maybe even slightly over for the frame design already in their possession. Understand that if this is NOT the case, since Lippert is a huge frame designer for multiple RV manufacturers, we have a country full of modern RVs that are totally unsafe for road use!

    I mean it's great you got it fixed, but it's absolutely ridiculous the way it was handled. We have only owned airstreams and have always taken them back to Jackson Center to get work done. While we've never had anything major wrong, they are always very fast in getting back with us and also letting us stay in it while they worked on it, as we were full time also. We are currently looking to get back to full timing but in a fifth wheel. We have been looking at Momentum from GD but this make me very hesitant. Quite a bit higher priced but the Luxe and New Horizon may be the way we go due to issues like this. I understand things going wrong, but this unit was DEFINITELY not checked over throughly enough before delivery. And then having to deal with customer service like that. Ridiculous
