One of the most beautiful photo features of the Team Championship picture, on the court after the clinching celebration, was Coach Mazzulla with his arm around Derrick who was standing right next to him. That showed me how much Derrick likes his Coach and vice-versa!

Noa has also appeared on Off the Pike with Brian Barrett, which isn't exclusively Celtics. She's pretty awesome and also, tbh, pretty pretty. Her story about applying to a job at the Celtics in middle school is pretty great.
Noa came out of nowhere because she REALLY knows her shit and does an excellent job of tying in the personality angle instead of just the numbers. You definitely do this as well, John, but as an old-school player and media personality it doesn't come quite as naturally to you as the way Noa does it. I'm looking forward to some John/Tom/Noa episodes next season. Let's go get #19!!!!

Derrick White is the duct tape of the Boston Celtics. Hes versatile and reliable. He can solve any problem... he's super intelligent. He will be an NBA coach some day. Remember you heard it first, from a seventy year old grandma. You go Derrick !

DWhite’s my personal favorite Celtic. Has been since the second half of the 2023 season. He’s a walking Swiss Army Knife with high basketball IQ and guaranteed endless effort.

Agreed about JB. I love Derrick but feel JB would be the more logical replacement for Kawhi. Sports Hub guys feel it's political why Kyrie and JB weren't picked because those two are outspoken.

I’m not sure about that. I am not sure any other team is giving Derrick White the contract that he just landed with the Celtics. He’s really really good and we are all the better for having him but he is not a #1 or #2 option.
Jaylen definitely got snubbed but it wasn’t just this situation, Jaylen should have been on the team to begin with. Jaylen can play guard or wing and does not need the ball in his hand. He has a more all-around offensive game. He plays gritty defense and is bigger. Jaylen should have gotten picked over at least another 2 or 3 players on this team.
Absolutely right about JB. I feel that Jaylen got snubbed for the olympics because he's outspoken on some issues. Same reason the Olympic committee does not want Kyrie.

I would put D. White in the top 50 but barely. He is not better than the #2 option on most playoff teams. He’s not even the #3 option on his own team if everyone is healthy. I would have Tatum in the top 10, Brown in the top 15, Porzingis in the top 40 along with Jrue and then D. White in the top 50.
i disagree. I think it depends on how much you value defense over offense. Alot of people weight alpha scorers too much. You cant have too much of that in a team. You'll need 2 at most. The rest is about surrounding those 2 with elite roleplayers who can scale up their offense as needed while being elite in other facers such as passing, screening, defense as those dont have diminishing returns unlike offense. Theres only 1 ball.
Keeping that in mind, i think d.white's top 40. Hes arguably top 3 role player in the league. Hes the very definition of a role player star just like draymond green used to be.
Jrue and KP would be in tthat top 40 too.

Noa is dead-on. The Celtics' record missing each inidividual star was roughly the same as their overall record ... except Derrick.
They were basically a .500 team without White, before the last few games of the season that Mazzulla wasn't even trying to win.

The backlash against the Celtics, the players, etc. is a few things. But most of it is simple: the Celtics challenge/counter American culture. American culture is all about individuals. Always. Single people DO everything in Americaland: win, lose, lead, change the world, win wars, save the universe. It's mythical at best; utter nonsense at worst. But it's how we think. Sure the Bulls won 6 titles, but really--REALLY--we all think "it was Michael." Think about how much time radio talk show jackaroos have spent telling us that TOM BRADY or Bill Belichick won 6 SBs. Not the other 52 guys who played all those years. In the NBA, we get told again, and again and again that you "MUST HAVE A Top 3 Player" (it used to be Top 5) to win a title. It's nonsense. It's after-the-fact descriptive categorization. Fortunately, people like Brad Stevens (and Sam Presti--look at his comments about realizing the NBA was past the "3 stars" model several years ago) are 10X smarter than the pundits and moved to a better model (only to be punished by the new CBA. Brilliant). You guys are correct: Team USA NEEDS a Derrick White (and already had Jrue Holiday for the same reasons).
Agreed. Heliocentricity, the best player, the individual is celebrated in american culture. The team, sacrifice, egalitarian culture is either shunned at worst or tolerated at best.
