My sense is that while this is fun and excellent in its own way, their ballroom training (in merengue and even more in other styles) is getting in the way of their appreciating and dancing what I'll call real merengue. Perhaps they are trying to organically evolve merengue - which is allowed and could be good - bringing your personality and creativity to a dance is good - but only if they appreciate real merengue! I myself am far from qualified to say what is real merengue. Any recommendations for videos of real merengue? Thanks. (I won't criticize suggestions.)
@@JonathonNeville I'm sure people think ballroom merengue is fun and of course people are allowed to dance however they want. I just think it looks "unnatural" and kind of awkward. Here is an example of "normal" merengue: ua-cam.com/video/s1Pbl1-onEY/v-deo.html

it is Not merengue...but thats what the ballroom people do, they do whatever dance they want and just call it something else...have you seen what they call tango? It looks ridiculous.
Not authentic in the slightest, Merengue isn't danced with heels off the floor, and the music isn't even real merengue, either. You'll never see club dancers dancing like this.
Cause this isn't the club. This is ballroom. Completely two different settings and expectations. Yes, it's not a traditional merengue song, but they never claimed it was- it's an interpretation. I did fall in love with this for sure!
Great song and dancers 😍🕺💃
It's not bad, it's just not authentic.

Ballroom Merengue, it's hybrid. The basic steps are merengue but the transitions are completely out of tango type dance.

La verdad ignoraba que esta cancion es un merengue...pero si lo es, un merengue callejero como las de Omega el fuerte

Same thing I thought. The dance is beautiful. The song doesn't fit.
