    Thank you for the tutorial and info. Just one note (from another UA-camr ), set the recording video to mkv, then there is an option to convert that file to MP4 afterwards (so you don’t loose the whole recording).

      Thank you for your comment and support. Appreciate your suggestion, yes, in the back of my mind there always a chance the recording can get interrupted. And MKV should be the file format to consider and use. I will definitely consider it. Thank you again. 🙏

    Is it true that with Elgato 4K X you may use MacBook display as an external HDMI monitor for PC or PlayStation 5 via passthrough?

      Hi, thanks for reaching out. I have not tried it. I think it’s possible but with delay/lag. You may want to take a look, there are discussions on Reddit for the HD60 X (which has the same passthrough tech). I could also provide you with the instructions on how to, if you want it.

      Hi, thanks for reaching out. There are a couple of things you could try on your PC (source). Do one at a time and test it.
      1) Try (at first) not to use wireless Bluetooth headphones.
      2) [This worked for me] Go to Control Panel > Sound > Go to the Recording Tab > Right click on your Microphone that is listed with Game capture 4KX below it and click on properties > Listen Tab > Listen to this device (Or if the Mic is off, turn it On)
      3) Check Windows doesn’t mute the 4KX: Control Panel >
      Hardware and Sound > Sound > Recording devices, right-clicking on the HD4KX > Properties > Levels.
      Let me know how it goes.

      Hi, thanks for reaching out. Try a couple of things here (whether it’s seem relevant or not, and for each test it before going on to the next). It’s a known issue going back to the HD60x
      1. Try (at first) not to use wireless Bluetooth headphones/sets
      2. On PC (source): If you can, go into settings and turn ON mic
      Or
      Go to Control Panel > Sound > Go to the Recording Tab > Right click on your Microphone that is listed with Game capture 4KX below it and click on properties > Listen Tab >
      Listen to this device (*Or if the Mic is off, turn it On)
      3) Check Windows doesn't mute the 4KX: Control Panel >
      Hardware and Sound > Sound > Recording devices, right-clicking on the HD4KX > Properties > Levels.
      Let me know how it goes.

      Hi, thanks for reaching out. Can you try another recording software, even theirs? What about just plugging in without using OBS, you should get a white solid light. And I assume you’ve tried unplugging and reconnecting and even rebooting the computer. If it persists, I would contact Elgato. Or maybe consider replacing it.

    Is it still worth getting the 4k X even though you can't record HDR on Mac OS?

    • @TossSong
      @TossSong  2 місяці тому +1

      Hi, thanks for reaching out. Yeah, it's a bummer the 4K60 Pro can't record HDR footage on Mac, that's for sure. But even without the HDR, that card is still an absolute beast for getting those crispy 4K 60fps captures on both Mac and PC. Unless you're specifically needing that HDR pop for your content, I'd say it's probably still worth nabbing if you want to future-proof your capture setup. The 4K quality alone is just so clean.

      @@TossSong No problem at all! I’m going to be recording PS5 with my MacBook M3 Pro using OBS, I’m going to try to see if I can record with HDR with the 4K X using Parallels Desktop since you can emulate Windows from your Mac with that software. I contacted Elgato and they said “We can assume that this is likely to work if the video input supports it.” But they said they haven’t tested it yet. I’m just trying it out of curiosity.

      Hi thanks for your comment. I assume with an adapter, it should. I found a Reddit user who got it to work with his HD60X (without audio) on the GameCube, and since the 4KX operates the same as the HD60X and the GameCube and N64 having the same Multi-AV output port, you may want to have a look:

    You didn’t show any of the input configuration for the 4K X in OBS. If you did you would have seen problems, like a lack of rec.709 and other problems with the selection of the video transport stream. You also did not show anything to do with the recording codec and the bitrate options etc.

    It's a shame though, I bought the 4K X to try and record 4K60 on my Mac, but it isn't powerful enough :/ (Currently using an M3 Pro 12/18 config) - However, if you have any solutions to record in 4K60, i'll take any info, cheers!
    EDIT: To add info, framerate when recording 4K60 is very choppy. Tried many encoders but none seem to work.

    • @TossSong
      @TossSong  15 днів тому

      Thanks for reaching out. If you’re using OBS, make sure that OBS is up-to-date. Sometimes, performance improvements are included in the latest software patches. Also lower the output resolution in OBS settings or try recording at a lower framerate to reduce the load on your system.
      Use Elgato’s Software: If you haven’t already, give Elgato’s own software a try, as it may be more optimized for their hardware.
      Close any unnecessary applications to free up system resources.
      If these don’t help, it might be worth reaching out to Elgato’s support for more tailored advice if you’re committed to recording in 4K60.

      I’m a little confused now about how you connect them. (Don’t forget you could always see the instructions that comes with the 4KX.) So, I use HDMI IN on the 4KX (from Gaming PC or Console). And HDMI OUT on the 4KX (to the Monitor). Then the USB-C to my MacBook. So the MacBook display could be the “monitor”, but I use the One monitor for both by [switching] between two outputs (ports) on the monitor using the remote control. Hopefully this makes sense.
