  • Day 9 - Keld to Reeth, 11 miles.
Waking up early for me I packed up my rather damp tent in a swarm of midges and was back on trail by 7.30, heading out of Keld's pretty village and briefly joining the Pennine Way at Kisdon Force. The flow was awesome due to the recent rain, so that was a real treat when I reached the Swale.
A gentle climb took me to the fork of the Red Route and the Blue Route at Crackpot Hall, this time I opted for the Blue Route and was really pleased I had. The walk to Muker was awesome, some of the prettiest landscape I've had the pleasure of walking through. Swinner Gill was stunning with its many cascades. The patchwork fields with the many barns dotted the bottom of the valley, tree-clad hills and craggy tops framed it magnificently.
Eventually, I left the side of the Swale at Ivelet and headed to Gunnerside, both cafes were closed, which was a shame. The village seemed deserted apart from one child on his mountain bike.
The climb up to Low Row Pasture was steep but the pasture was a beautiful lawn mowed by the many sheep grazing up there.
The hamlet of Blades was my next encounter, an eerie place high up and remote. I then wended my way through fields and back along the Swale towards Reeth, the sun finally popped its head out for that last few miles.
Now arriving at Reeth, a pretty spread out classic Pennine-like village with a vast green and marketplace with three hotels, a couple of coffee shops, an ice-cream parlour and a couple of local shops. Sadly only slightly spoiled by the vast number of cars parked up.
I got to the Kings Arms and they very kindly made me some lunch past their normal hours. I sat eating a rather exceptional cheeseburger and drinking my pint of Theakstons deciding where I would stay, at the local campsite or carry on another 3.5 miles. It was then I noticed the vacancies sign and enquired, they gave me a good deal and I soon found myself in a pleasant room and the chance to recover from what had been a rather exhausting last 30 hours.
I explored the other hotels and the green that evening finding Reeth much to my liking.
Filmed on GoPro Hero 9 and edited in Filmora 12.
    Music from Epidemic Sounds.
