  • First long distance thru-hike, first solo wild camp, first (terribly edited) vlog thing...what's next 2020?! Here's me bumbling around the North of England in search of a good pint and occasionally getting lost in the process.
    Sorry about the bad audio. I'll get better next time.
    Enjoy!

    Congratulations, what a great journey! I did the PWay southbound in 2018 and some highlights for me were: Hadrian's wall, High Cup Nick, Stoodley Pike. There's something just so cool about the three of them! Some things I found tough were the neverending climb up Cross Fell, the gravel road in the heat through Kielder and that annoying traverse from Keld to Thwaite.

    • @AliceBateman
      @AliceBateman  3 роки тому

      Thanks for the comment Alex 😊 Stoodley Pike was shrouded in cloud when I was up there but I also loved HW and HCN! Absolutely hated the gravel roads through Kielder as well. My worst part was the 25 miles between Once Brewed and Alston in 30 degree heat...never again!!

    Well done Alice, it’s 30 years since I did the pennine way but great to see some of the sites again. I moved over to Northern Ireland years ago so do most of my walking over here now. The audio is always a tough one to get good on walks because of wind noise etc. I’ve been using a Rode Go mic with a lapel mic and wind buff . I’m currently doing a video on the set up I use for my walking videos, I’ll post you a link whenever I finish it if you’re interested.

    Only slight critique, and I’m far from being a pro myself, try to get the volume levels more even. I found myself having to adjust each time you spoke so I could hear you and then again when the music came back on so I didn’t disturb the neighbours 😂

    I did 4 days of pennines yrs ago. 12 miler another 12 miler + 23 miler. But the food + water i was carrying + comming of tge walk to get supplys was too mich for my feet to take. Loved it. Wil finish it one day. But my oppinion is to get someone meet you daily with supplys so can carry light. My back pack weighed more than me lol. I met a old giy retired in a pub who was walking 8 mikes a day had hotels booked so carreid really light day pack. Dream but expensive. Im 50 now + would struggle carry all that kit. But like i said if find someone mert you evenings. A day pack + light load really make a masive difference. Be really enjoyable

    Thanks so much for this video! I’m hoping in may to also solo walk from Hebden Bridge to to very top of Scotland. It’s reassuring for my Grandad to see another solo female doing this. Haha, really love the look of your rain jacket. Did it work well for you? And if so where is it from? :)

      Hi Isabella, sorry for taking so long to get back to you! How's the planning going for your hike? I bumped into a few more solo women during my trip and would be great to see more out!! My raincoat was an old season Rohan which they don't stock any more but I loved how lightweight it was. I think their 'Momentum' jacket is the closest to it but very pricey.

    Hi there, brilliant video! Gathering as much info as I can atm as I’m planning my own north to south trip in march!
    Have you any idea we’re I could get my hands on a north to south guide book? Just to save me reading a south/north on backwards!! Thanks! :)

    • @AliceBateman
      @AliceBateman  2 роки тому +1

      Hi Rob, I used the Trailblazer guide book as it had illustrations for both directions but I often found it to be unnecessary weight as I primarily used the OS Maps app. The reason I found it most useful was for checking out food resupply and accommodation options so direction of travel may not be as important in the end. Hope that helps a bit!

      Hi Simon! I did the walk in July/August and had around 5 days of on/off rain. Definitely wetter towards the north of the route.

    • @AliceBateman
      @AliceBateman  3 роки тому +1

      Thanks Gareth! I did it July/August and was pretty lucky with the weather. Watch out for all the hard track around the reservoirs at the beginning of the hike, I think that's what gets most people heading north.

      @@AliceBateman kind of you to reply,
      I tune into many people you tube adventures.
      I am 57 this year and only really started walking since I was 42.
      Never did any big walks though - biggest being in either the lakes or Scotland normally with a mountain to get to of about 12 miles
      With home walks of a maximum of about 16.
      It is my ambition to train my self up so perhaps to attempt Dartmoor from north to south and camp overnight.
      If that goes well then I hope to eventually do the west highland way and perhaps Wainwright’s Coast to coast.
      I can perfectly understand your emotions. I get an massive rush when climbing the fells or being in a huge landscape.
      Like a wave of euphoria that make you cry a little. My missus doesn’t really get it even though she has climbed most of the
      Mountains that I have.
      Once you get the bug at least in my case You are always planning your next adventure.
      We went to the summer isles in 2019 and climbed stac polly and Suilven as well as sea kayaking.
      My next Scottish trip will be Gairlock and I have picked some great mountains in the Torridom area - hope I get there!
      All the best.

    Hi. Lovely video. I wanted to do it North to South next year. Do you recommend it? I've just done 4 days Malham to Tan Hill Inn and loved it but the weather and knees were against me. When did you do this? Congrats!

    • @AliceBateman
      @AliceBateman  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Lucia! I absolutely would recommend doing it southbound. I think it's the best kept secret of hiking the PW that it's easier going down than up 😉 I did this at the end of July/beginning of August and was generally very lucky with the weather, apart from one absolute scorcher that nearly ended me at Alston! Spring would be a good time I think 😊
