    Why arching the back is cued, instead of trying to stay neutral?

      is CrossFit, you think they actually know how to coach a proper squat?

      An arched lower back is the very definition of a neutral spine in case of the lower back. It is called the natural lordotic curve.

      @koparkapierwsza8387 3 роки тому +20

      @@superyRun It's called hyperlordosis. Look at this boy's spine when he is standing and right before he is starting to squat - it differs from the spine curve when he is in the middle of the squat and that's wrong. I did the same thing while performing deadlifting/squatting and my spine was hurting. Now when I know that it needs to be in the neutral position it doesn't hurt at all. There is also no word about your stomach muscles and breathing. All this video is one big BS.

      There are natural curves to all 3 spinal areas. The spine is a stabilizer not a hinge joint or ball/ socket. You don't want that sort of movement in the spine during an exercise and especially not under load. Modern living has us in distorted posture. Yes, there can be more instruction on breath ,etc. But first you need the posture, motion movement ie. Knees out. Squats are life-- best to learn them well and properly-- even if it takes a good while.

    Ummm, no. If you can see in the first "buttwink" movement, you can see the buttwink starting when he's going deeper than parallel. When he's "fixing" the buttwink, he is cued to stop at parallel. 99% sure that if he continued to drop he would still get a buttwink. It's essentially cheating, "fixing" without really fixing anything. This was a bad video.

    • @walkingbush5764
      @walkingbush5764 Рік тому +1

      Considering u don't need to go further than parallel it's a pretty good video.

    Ankle flexibility and tight hamstrings are his problems !, id let him have a wider stance get that core stronger. loosen the hamstrings and he would be much better

    • @DavidMcKercher
      @DavidMcKercher 7 років тому +3

      Maintaining lumbar requires a decent amount of trunk stability that most people simply do not have. If you can hold a dead bug for 1 min, perfectly, you can squat while maintaining your lumbar, if you can not, you can not. Motor control dysfunction is neurological, this person is just weak in the trunk.

  • @JohnnyCatFitz

    This is proper squat form. Rather than ' arch your back' the instruction is better to edit *tip your pelvis forward or lengthen the space between your belly button and pubic bone but not tuck your tailbone under. Other instructors explain that this is frequently a mobility/ flexibility issue. Imo learn to deep squat-- wake up in the morning, stretch a.minute or 2 and then deeply squat in the low ' primal' squat for a minute or 2. Do a few minutes each of ankle and hip mobility; be it stretching or strengthening. Test your low back for stiffness. If you can't do cobra pose, straight arms in Prone position WITHOUT your hips/pelvis rising up too- you are stiff! Work on good posture all day. Work in 5 minutes of stretch work every chance you get.
    Squat on!
