    We did this at our lvl1 too. Really do have to revisit it from time to time, I dropped into a box and my form was pointed out. You get better but CANT forget the basics....I went straight to the wall and started doing this.

    Has she even considered spinal issues like joint manipulation that may be required to ease of tension and get back complete felxibittly in the back.
    Seems she is just smashing the technique in

    Not judging, asking, is this a " desk jockey" issue lack of structural strength? I install floorcovering for a living. I don't have any of these problems.

      Its exactly that. About 80-90% of new people in my box have this issue in some extent. Since squatting is actually sitting most people forget how to sit beyond the chair. If that makes sense.

    Cherie chan is said to be one of crossfit best coaches. I really like her, i like her husband (have not seen much from hin since regionals) BUT THOSE SQUATS ARE FCKING HORRIBLE. This is dr Kelly Staretts Influence at work here. This is very much his style of squatting. Its sort of a hybrid using low bar technique with high bar position. Overall its rather simple: Just stand up, big breath, and try doing a deadlift with as upright a torso as possible. This uses the hips as a prime mover.
    This is not necessarily wrong, but its fcking horrible seeing how everyone has to do this. Different people need different approaches in Squat form, not everyone needs the same approach.

      +WantedDeaDorAIive What is Starrett's style of squatting at work here?

    • @WantedDeaDorAIive
      @WantedDeaDorAIive 8 років тому

      Kelly Starrett proposes this style of squatting in his book: supple leopard. Given the fact that he is around crossfit for AGES, in addition to the fact that he and Cherie/Matt are good friends, they use his cues.
      He argues in the book about Olympic squats and Knee health, about using the hips (similar to a deadlift/low bar squat). The main point he makes is setting the hips back. You cant sit your hips back during a high bar squat, this will ultimately compromise your position, you have to break at the knees and set your hips straight down. Either one is fine, but i really hate how they (atleast on every video ive seen) force people to squat in that particular way.

    • @trentedwards5005
      @trentedwards5005 8 років тому +1

      +WantedDeaDorAIive The hips are always the prime mover in the squat no matter what type of squat you are doing. Yes you knees will track further forward in olympic lifting and high bar squats but this doesnt change that external rotation at the hips is the main drive of power in the squat.

    • @WantedDeaDorAIive
      @WantedDeaDorAIive 8 років тому

      Thats actually not true. The way its done here loads the hips quite a bit more than what a Olympic style squat would do. A (perfect) high bar squat is much more quads than this style of squatting right here. They squat that way to use more of the posterior chain (because of known reasons). A proper high bar squat will minimize the stretch reflex from the hamstrings to favour quad developement

    • @shadywayside
      @shadywayside 8 років тому

      +WantedDeaDorAIive I've read the book twice, and he does talk about squatting principles, but I guess I missed the part you're talking about where he proposes a certain style of squat. The book is right here on my desk. Can you tell me where in the book I should look please? On page 96, is the start of the back squat section. I don't see where he advises one type (high bar/low bar) over another. Air squat is on page 82, and again, he doesn't bias a particular style.

    how is this teachin anything? youre teaching him a lowbar squat

    • @craigherbert25
      @craigherbert25 8 років тому +5

      So it is teaching something? Your 2 sentences are completely contradictory. Also this is not teaching low bar back squat...there isn't even a bar. It's teaching midline stability in a squat and as you move closer to the wall your torso becomes more upright, which would resemble high bar back squat/front squat/overhead squat positions.

    • @Kiddowesth
      @Kiddowesth 8 років тому +1

      I see your point. squatting against a wall helps the low-bar position and opening the hips and utilising the glutes and hams as prime movers. Throwing the hands up seems to working more OH squat with is another focus.

    • @timm7100
      @timm7100 8 років тому

      "there isn't even a bar" lol the bar position does not make a lowbar squat. the body movement does. oh yeah then explain how you wana perform a high bar squat with your toes against a wall. please explain me where you wanna put your knees.

    • @craigherbert25
      @craigherbert25 8 років тому

      I see your point, but your knees only go a little over your toes in a high-bar (if at all) so perhaps you wouldn't be right up against the wall, but same logic applies to low-bar - where is your head going to go? If they were teaching low-bar there would be no need to go any closer than what they demo'd. The closer the wall, the more the squat would resemble a high-bar and less of a low-bar. Also the bar placement defines the type of back-squat. Just because this guy has bad mobility doesn't mean he isn't trying to improve his Olympic lifting positions. I was commenting that you said "
      how is this teachin anything" then said "youre teaching him a lowbar squat". May not have been what you meant but it didn't make sense.
