I remember going to the arcade with no money BC my moms didn't give me any but I would just stand around the MK arcade machine for hours and watch guys play along with all the other kids ...
I would go with $2 or $5 if I was lucky, and only played 25 cent games so I had more plays and could stay in the arcade as long as possible. Once the money was gone I would do the same thing!
God I miss the arcade. I owned some much ass when I was 11 at mortal kombat. I will tell you watching this really makes me sad because all of the magic in games is gone. Back then when you talked shit or trolled you did it with the person sitting beside you. So you knew not to talk shit if you couldnt back it up. Now days bitches sit behind there mic and talk so much shit because its not real anymore. I miss my child hood so much after watching this. Long live Mortal Kombat in the Arcades.
if you ever come to australia the AMF bowling alleys around here have arcade machines in them, mostly racing , time crisis, and some shooter games, there are also some decent ish arcade games in laser skirmish venues (not sure if AMF bowling is international or not)
My 2 friends and I were Mortal Kombat (both 1, 2 and 3 but mostly 2) champions in our hometown. The arcades were FULL up until about 97 or so. The games people were playing were MK, Killer Instinct, Street Fighter, and Daytona Racing. All of those games allowed multiplayer competition, and it was a big deal at Tel Twelve Mall and Space Station arcade, my two spots to play in the 90s. At Tel Twelve there were two MK 2 machines right next to each other and my 2 friends and I would tag team in a rotation, taking on a constant stream of opponents, most of whom were easily 10 years or more older than us. What was our highest score you ask? Well, on a Saturday sometime in the mid 90s, we won 94 games in a row off of 1 quarter (that was with only 1 friend and on one game). That's 94 different battles against a ton of different people. I clearly remember grown men getting very mad they couldn't beat us. I also remember a skinny black dude came in and did a 13 hit combo with Scorpion. I know, it sounds like bullshit, but let me remind you all of the chips they added to the game; they added I believe 2 or 3 computer chips to the game (MK2) over the course of a year or so that added content but that ALSO added opportunities to exploit small glitches in the game. I believe it was when the 2nd chip was released that I saw the 13 hit combo. We were totally blown away by it because we'd never seen that many before. Anyway, those days spent at the mall and the arcade were some of the best of my childhood, and that win streak was the highlight of our gaming career. We still talk about it today. (If anyone knows about the chips in MK2 that added updates to the game please let me know.)
Guess I'm superhuman. Cool story. In Soflo, the MK machines were all in flea markets. I remember it was so serious, that the players had spotters/coaches between rounds.
I remember when this game was first released at my local arcade, the arcade cabinet had a secondary screen on top, so everyone could see the action. Does anyone else remember that?
James Belkin I remember always going to arcade with a big crowd around street fighter 2 and then one day the crowd was gone to the new game mortal kombat. Me and my friend were glad so we could play street fighter 2. Haha.
@@paulmalhi5003 My fascination with arcade fighters started with SF2 at the local fairy queen. Then while on a family trip I went in the game room next to the pool in a hotel. Saw this weird game called Mortal Kombat that I never heard of. I suspect it was a test location given this was around 91/92. Popped in a quarter and saw the blood and crazy sounds, and was just blown away. From that point on I never popped another quarter into a SF2 again lol.
Old comment, but it's likely that split the video of the cab using the Jamma edge and put it on a secondary monitor. But if that was in 1993, they might have dome something else.
It depends on if you're playing MAME on a classic arcade style monitor or not. It doesn't look proper on anything else. Also, playing the real thing in it's natural environment with strangers in a dark arcade compared to playing at home on MAME - is like the difference between sex and masturbation. You can fall in love with the arcade experience, I know I did.
I noticed that the arcade MK's properly stretch the game's screen cropping out the broken layers and graphics one the far left or right on battle arenas and other places. This is noticeable on the right side on the MKII intro story. I noticed the arcade cabinet in the video doesn't crop these graphics (through other GGA videos). Maybe the screen isn't centered properly or some other reason. If someone has the answer to why the arcade crops properly please reply.
Yeah I've seen it that way in arcades too. Another thing I noticed - in MAME if you set it to 8:5 in the screen tab it looks more accurately stretched. For instance the MK logo or the height of the characters. I think MK games required a bit of tinkering with the positioning in the actual arcades or came with some tinkering by default.
Those guys at 4 minutes in the video that played Scorpion and Sub Zero have to be the world's worst MK players ever. Cool event, wish we still had MK coin op machines in my area. They've all been replaced by bull crap like Fast & Furious and the kind of junk they think kids and old people can handle.

awesome!!! the mk actors r legends.
Why is it that Elizabeth Malecki and Kerri Hoskins don't show up for these events?
that is awesome I live in Halifax nova scotia there is nothing like that around here
I do not remember exactly how it was MK2 in a original arcade board, is there any difference in graphics, sound or gameplay of MK2 in MAME?

Those guys at 4 minutes in the video that played Scorpion and Sub Zero have to be the world's worst MK players ever.
