Raw and dirty. Just like it should be. Cheers.
Rob Castro If there was a menu for music I’d ask for it to be raw.
Nailed it!
Blast the volume with 0.75x speed.

For those who think this is nothing special, you completely miss the point of blues music. If you judge a blues guitarist or artist based on technical wizardry, then once again, you miss the point. Blues' beauty lies in its simplicity. Nailing the feeling of blues is far more important than how fast or complex the riffs are. Gary has got that feeling. You can tell he's listened to A LOT of blues just from this simple video. That's how you learn that feeling. If you want 'wizardry', listen to Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, and Eric Johnson.
Timo Arthur abso-fucking-lutely
You timo blues junkie. Best comment, you´re down to the earth
Awesome.
I like how they back each other. That’s what makes e blues fun with your friends. You got each other’s back like your supposed woman.
Yep, kids think good means speed, but without feeling it may as well be a robot.
One of the best 12-bars I’ve ever heard. Simple, unhurried and magic in every way. Huge respect.
This very good. The best 12 bar iv heard is SRV with acoustic
I love how Gary slowed his bros roll a few measures in hahaha
This is mediocre at best.
Simplicity heals the soul
So simple yet so effective...this is what all music should be like
not that simple man try replicate his soul plaing just now you may come close but never will be able to as its not youre soul but if you play with ur soul ull get something no one else can replicate
@@jungleninja8415 when you cut it down to its roots it is actually quite simple, although you do have to be skilled within your fingers, it is really only one person playing rhythmic guitar through 12 bars while the other plays blues licks. However this can not be replicated easily as you have stated, the feel that Gary is putting into the blues licks along with the other dude keeping the beat and filling in for him is nothing short of remarkable. But the idea itself; of the 12 bar blues is quite simple
nah, music needs to be as diverse as possible, there is place for both simple and complex
@@internaut4257 Agreed. I love the blues but gatekeeping music isn't the way.
If you fine this is simple, you must be a very good guitarist yourself!
I feel like I'm going through the south, on a bus, staring outside the window while these two are jamming at the back.
Works well as lyrics for this jam xD

At 79 years of age I’m loving this music!
That has to be one of the best blues I’ve ever heard I’m a fan now
Oh man... you ever heard of srv, hendrix, John mayer, clapton. If so. . . I sound stupid. . . If not. You're in for a ride

There's a reason one of the guitar legends asked him to tour with him. He's as authentic as they come!
who was the legend who asked him to tour with him? I’m just now discovering gcjr idk what rock ive been under
@@lilplanet9906 probably Clapton G Clark opened for him on a couple of tours! He is very talented, and the next generation of Blues musicians!
@@John525C also, The Rolling Stones as well. Alamo all the legends are showing love. It’s good to see. They’re not easy to please haha

Because he is predictably boring, wont cause any headache for the hosting band.
Gary Clark is a ridiculously underrated blues man
Amazing man , was in that rhythm with mind ,body and soul loved it respect 🙏 god bless
For all of you guys saying GCJ isn't technically as good as his contemporary blues artists (as in slow speed), just remember that blues was born out of the most average people that had a gift for creating emotion through song. BB King started playing guitar bc his pastor played guitar, and he learned practically everything from his cousin Bukka White, no books, no learning about modes and complicated chords until near the end of his life . His playing is much slower than SRV or Clapton, but guess who idolized him? Fuckin Paul Butterfield and Bloomfield. The theory is that over time, to progress the genre, musicians began to employ more technicality, not to throw the older players in the dirt, but to continue their legacy. GCJ is raw, and from what I've read, grew in the same isolation as the early blues players. Derek Trucks, who played a solo basically at B.B.'s speed in front of him, was told by B.B it was "the best he ever heard it". Does that mean I think SRV or Clapton or Mayer is bad? Absolutely not, Clapton is my favorite guitarist of all time. It's two different styles of improvisation, and I don't think it's fair to say one is better than the other. And to be quite honest, in this clip GCJ has a Big Bill Broonzy vibe, one of CLAPTONS heroes
The thing about Blues is, I love the old stuff, because it was kinda new then. I don't like blues now, (no offence to GCJ) because it's literally things people have learned but they're putting several licks together in order, that has already been created. A lot of guitarist knew this a LONG time ago and changed it up, like David Gilmour, Hendrix, Jimmy Page etc. Blues is something of the past, but not a reason to hate it.
Ben Turner C Sa
I can tell you are a guitar kinda guy.
@Ben Turner
I literally thought to myself while GCJ was playing that he plays acoustic blues really similar to Big Bill Broonzy! Glad to know another blues brutha has my back on that shit and that I'm not the only one picking up on that! peace
I'd say robert johnson/freddie king combo
My grandpa use to play this on his gatar every day and night my grandma loved it I did to I miss him so much.. He and my grams passed away all i have is memories of them but this song he use to play helps me cope with their lost i miss them so much my heart hurts.. 😭❤
Sorry for your loss
Sounds like you need the blues yourself ! And This is a simple 12 bar blues. Even if you don’t play guitar now you can learn it really quickly, Literally a few hours and you will be able to at least play along. Give it a try I’m sure your grandpa would be stoked if you picked it up
We're gonna be talking about Gary Clark Jr. decades from now like he's a regular ol' guitar legend (he is already to me).
As a Asian who 'learned' listening to blues music in d 70's as a teenager was a radical change n deed for me, I banned all my sisters n bros not to use my player with local song records. I grew up with rock n' roll n blues music. Now I m still dig rock n' roll n blues music. Blues gives me a momentum in life.
This is the blues... 12 bar acoustic delta blues is the best ... I can listen To this shit all day ... Lightnin hopkins

very nice of Mr.Clark to let this guy jam with him...and film it too...
Clark's fingers are just so dang long...I got to wonder "what else COULD he ever do?" ...this man was born to play guitar!
This is so Hot it burnt my ears.... What a performance.
Nothing beats 12 bar beat blues... And it's not going away..
The Blues comes from the Heart of Lifetime Hardships, and Struggles that your Inner Soul can capture and express through Music
Playing using the guitar as voice to talk and answer playing how you express yourself is where i want to be. I have only had short experiences of it over years. I have great admiration for the guitarist that truly play with their feelings. One comes to mind
David Gilmour
Saw this man in a small amphitheater in NC…and you could literally walk up to the curtain of the stage. No security gate or wall, and let me tell you…he and his band was them MF’s. They was like that. Great night. Great music. Great show.
I've had the pleasure of seeing the lovely Mr. Clark several times. He continues to evolve and grow musically. I look forward to seeing him whenever he comes to town.
hes ok over rated
@@jaybarrslino9729 there's no such thing as an overrated blues player in 2021, unfortunately blues is a dying breed, and Gary is one of those people "carrying the torch of rhythm and blues rock and roll" as srv used to say. Im just glad people like gary still exist.
@@zackgibson3389 I like Samantha Fish better. Better guitarist, better singer and younger...she'll carry the torch further.
The best thing about a good blues jam is that it can turn into a conversation with no words. This was bloody amazing. Ausgezeichnet for our German colleagues! :)
This sounds like what the guitars first language would be. Like it's the fundamentals of everything and it's feeling the guitar out as opposed to just making it do what you want. It also feels like the strings are connected to his soul.
Blues is deep music, it's born out of pain and suffering and resilience, as well as the ironic beauty of sorrow.
It may be difficult for some people to empathize with the literal history of the blues, but anyone can empathize with that screaming sadness, that gut wrenching rage at the hopelessness of our situations. 😊
All those ole Delta legend blues man and even modern blues man, just keep it alive an healthy. just feel tha blues brotha
It's nice to see The Blues come home.
For those who claim that GCJR doesn’t know how to play the blues.
#1. You’re not a guitarist/musician
#2. You’re a hater.
#3. You haven’t seen him live.
who the hell says that?
@@BKInbound no one. just a mad kid
I don’t think he’s particularly good, but yea he can clearly play. Just because someone don’t think someone is particularly good doesn’t mean that he’s a hater. This is coming from a guitarist/musician by the way

This brings me way back to when I was young and my kid brother used to play this for me after we'd shoot crabs off the end the barrells of our bb-guns and climb the cliffside with the guard rail rope back to the wayside house. Grey skies. All blue after sad American summer afternoons at the baseball diamond. Love it.
Hes just the BEST bluesman today!!!

He has more swagger and cool in his fingers than I have on my whole self.
such a simple sound...but what a sound it is.
Amazing, out of this world, back to my roots.
Nice -- acoustic 12-bar blues as it should be. Will keep coming back here.
At first I thought this was a cover or Pride and Joy by SRV. But this is just pure blues and it's amazing!
they got the blues!
Just love this music that's great Colin UK
Some years ago, I was in a bar/restaurant in Florida with my wife's family and they had an old black musician playing the blues in the corner. It sounded a bit like this. My father-in-law (who is more into classical music) turned to me and asked if the music was authentic. I laughed and said it doesn't get any more authentic!!!
Hey Gary... great musicianship and technical mastery. I'll be listening to you!
I will always love this sound.
It's just gorgeous.
I could sit and listen to this while sipping on wine all day !
Every great blues riff was just touched on in this little jam session 😂🤟
