    I'm so stoked on all your content!!!! I've been bass fishing for 30 years and thought I knew my stuff, then i watched my first Tactical Bassin segment and you guys blew my mind. Matt and Tim are by far the best fisherman I've encountered and have a natural ability to teach that's second to none. Thanks so much guys you've totally changed my life and only increased my love for fishing.

    This is why I love this channel tying a FG knot in the boat with wind blowing and all the other things going on it's always been a aggravating task I will still tie the FG knot at home preparing to go fish but if I do have to tie a leader knot in the boat this blood knot is the way to go

      @@dantwaites7097 Try the Alberto knot, it goes through the guides better. It's the second strongest knot besides the FG. FG just takes too long to tie.

    • @codyphillips977
      @codyphillips977 5 років тому

      Dan Twaites personally Dan , I have tied the Alberto a lot and it is a lot more difficult and like Matt said the main benefit to the blood knot is you can VISUALLY see it’s tied right. The Alberto is not that way. The most dofficult part to the blood is simply pulling it down nicely. Take your time it will solve all your issues !!

    • @madknacker
      @madknacker 5 років тому +3

      The uni to uni no doubt works. Most other connection knots are smaller than the uni. So if you have reels with unconventional line guides, like a Daiwa with TWS, you can’t reel the knot into the spool and are limited on leader length.

      improved clinch has been my go to for flouro for the past 3 months and I've landed some central Florida monsters. including a 10.4 pound fish on 12# flouro. I went so far as to test a uni, Palomar, improved clinch, and orris knot all with 12,15, 17, and 20 pound floor after losing a jackhammer. the improved clinch and one other knot (not sure of the name just watched a guy tie it, make a loop on one side, wrap main and tag 4-5 times with loop and pass both tag and loop through loop created at the bottom, cinch and trim tag end and excess loop) and the improved clinch and the other did the best consistently.

  • @punchfukker3383

    Tim, that pre-cinching you do before you complete the palomar knot is exactly why you eat up your leader's length, if you keep the line all open and floppy as you pass it over & around whatever you're tying to, you can then adjust & slide the line down and back to it's contact point with usually just a half inch/inch of tag end hanging out afterwards, I do that all the time with my Egret Baits Kick-a-Mullet Jr's. the main reason I just love the palomar knot as my bait knot is it's "width" with the two loops being in contact with the hook's/swivel's eye, seen so many friends and other people break off simply because their knot only had "one finger" hooked into the terminal point instead of _knuckling up_ so to say.

  • @flannel872
    @flannel872 5 років тому

    My confidence knot and all around connection is a simplified SD jam knot that is more widely known as the hangman's noose. When tying, I draw the main line to scoot the knot toward the eye, then the tag end to cinch, and then a confidence pull again on the main, and then trim the tag. Always use plenty of spit, and check that all the loops have fully cinched. I've landed many a large limbs and saved many a lure on 6lb.

    Blood knot was the first leader connection knot I learned as a kid. I probably picked it up from Field & Stream. I didn't use it for leaders since all I fished with was 12 lb test mono. But since I didn't have my own money or transportation, I couldn't go get a new spool whenever I wanted. If I broke off say 30 yards worth of line, I'd use a blood knot to add more line from whatever spool I had lying around.
    I really like it for using long leaders because it seems to cause fewer issues if the knot is on the spool than other knots I've tried. BUT, I've experienced the knot slipping too bad to cinch down with well used braid unless I prep the lines with a rubbing alcohol pad first. Makes it more frustrating to tie in the field if I lose my leader. I don't know if this is a common problem or just because of the braids I'm using.

    I use the Palomar knot when tying straight braid, no extra steps are required. It holds! Super strong knot. For mono, I use a non-slip loop knot 97.83% of the time. Its strong and adds a lot of action to the bait. For spinnerbaits and baits where I need a tight knot on the bait I use the improved clinch knot mono, triple surgeons knot is the way to go, much easier to tie, you can almost tie it blind. I fish inshore saltwater mostly, big strong fish, and I can't remember the last time I had a knot fail. Just my 2 cents. I am going to play around with that San diego jam knot.

    My 4 I use all the time are double uni for frogs and top water, a snell for flipping and punching, Palomar for T-rig and an FG knot for braid to leader. FG by far the strongest for leader and thinnest but also difficult at times to tie

  • @crowman5936

    One thing you can do to make the knot stronger and help protect it is put a coat on it with a little drop of Loctite Ultra liquid control super glue. Their Ultra series glue is the most waterproof and flexible and I've never had a knot failure with it. I've been doing this for about 10 years with ocean fishing bottom fish that tear line up and test knots to there limit. The coating help the line go through the guides easier as well.

    • @crowman5936
      @crowman5936 5 років тому

      @Rod Royal Yeah I did my checking on their glue on their website to see what the spec's were before I used it. I've caught fish out in the ocean that tested the knots to the max but have never had the knot itself fail. I think the glue jams the knot so it won't slip apart more than gluing them together. It works.

  • @piggie916
    @piggie916 5 років тому

    FG knot is the only braid to FC/Mono knot you need to know. Yes, it takes a long time to learn. Yes the learning curve sucks for the rizzuto finish knot. Once you tie 80, it becomes doable under 2 min and it is by far stronger than any knot you can tie without a bobbin. A doubled up uniknot is my goto, just run the leader through the eye twice and tie a normal 5 loop uni. I've tested all these extensively with a weight gague. Palomar is surprisingly good and so is the SDJ, I find them more frustrating than a Uni though.

    Still will use the Alberto knot but the blood knot is very interesting

    sleeper connection knot is the Shin Fukae knot. Just about as thin as a FG, just as strong, and so much easier to tie correctly.

    I prefer the San Diego Jam knot for everything. The Double San Diego jam knot wins the knot contest every year at the Fred Hall show in Long Beach. Palomar knot can fail if the lines overlap in the hook eye

    Great video! When you say similar in size for the blood knot, are you talking about size in pound strength or size in line diameter?

    What knot do y’all use on a spinner bait?
    Thanks for all the videos that you make. I am 74 and it like going to school everyday!

      With any clear line like mono or fluoro use a palomar so u have 2 pieces of line through the line tie instead of 1

    Saw this vid on my feed and also saw a bunch of message on my FB so I decided to hit FB first then watch this vid. So what do I see as one of the top stories that popped up? It was Ce Ce from a post on Western Bass about her smallmouth. I guess we can all expect an epic video to be coming soon.

    Great video, Matt.
    I’m digging the beard btw...it suits you.
    I know when I grew my goatee out to a full beard, I started catching more fish.
    Research shows that beards hold scent which attracts the Big Girls...and we all love the Big Girls haha
    Keep up the great work, brother.
    Hands down best channel on UA-cam and should be well over 1 million subscribers.

    Hey Matt,
    I appreciate your work in our hobby. Of the 3 mentioned here, what knot do you tie fluoracarbon to lure or a snap?
    Thanks!

    I use the Extreme Philly Fishing Clinch Knot.
    So get a hook and pass the line through the eyelet of the hook that's step number 1.
    You want to do one over the hand knot.
    If you are using braided line or line that is too thin you may want to do two or three over hand knots
    I usually do it two times and it works just fine and this little knot right here.
    It's going to serve as the break for the entire clinch knot.
    So get the hook, Make a V formation spin the hook four to six times.
    Pass the line through the eyelet on the bottom and make sure that the initial knot is all the way to the other side.
    Just pull it slowly and nicely and make sure initial knot that you just made is just below there and boom there you have it!

    For connecting line I use bloodknot and for my bait I use a uni knot saves all my leader if I get snagged but still holds strong

      Stuart Strom Well yeah. You can get away with the clinch knot on mono but I wouldn’t try it on braid. It slips pretty easily.

    Matt-what about using the blood knot for 30lb braid to 20lb FC100? I can’t seem to get the heavier (16lb +) fluoro to actually wrap around the braid. I end up with the braid wrapping around the fluoro and not the fluoro wrapping around the braid. Would love some help as the blood knot definitely goes through the guides better than the Albright. Thanks!
