I recently stopped getting my gel nails done professionally to save money, but realized that my naturally thin nails are too sharp for my eczema - whenever i scratch myself, I end up destroying my skin or bleeding. I just tried using dip nails to build an apex at home, and now my nails are thick enough to where I can't accidentally injure myself while scratching. odd benefit to an apex, but it's been very therapeutic to be honest. thank for your the guidance! the dip method is SO much easier for me to do than gels.

Super helpful! I'm learning all I can before my dip kit arrives as I've decided the nail salon's i've gone to just never do it how i like - and i'm always filing them again when i get home, or adding glitter to them when they grow out. It feels like a waste of money each time.

I change my nails every week, but I know if they were longer they’re probably pop off quite often. I need to try my peel base. I have a bottle, but I never think to use it until it’s too late.

That curve is gorgeous! Every time I try this method my nails crack on the edges because it isn’t thick enough. I have the most flimsy paper thin nails due to my auto immune disease. But if I make it thicker, I need to make my apex thicker too so it still has this shape. Then it looks ridiculously thick. 😭 so I’ll admire from afar
A lot of this is trial and error. We all have such different nails so what works for me may not work for most and that’s ok! Play around with different techniques and im sure you’ll find your perfect rhythm! 🫶🏻💞

That is simple but pretty. I’ve found that even when I first started growing my nails I have to use apex method. But with more layers. Cuz I have super flat nails. I think u are correct it depends on the person and their nail type.

the ÜNT peely base is out of stock since months. A quite nice peely alternative is the MAYBELLINE Dr.ResCue. It's just 7 or 8 ml but it works great. 🤷♀️

Great video! Did you say that you encapsulated with gel based, wiped tacky layer then filed? I don’t think I’ve caught that in your previous videos. Wouldn’t it just file off?
Yep exactly!! And nope! It’s just meant as a barrier between the file and the color. If you need more filing, I would suggest 2-3 coats of the gel base just to protect the color. Or you can use clear dip powder. Dealers choice! ❤️
Good morning Marla! You mentioned Virgo & Gem and Halo Taco peel base as alternatives for UNT. In an earlier video you used Mani Boss peel base. Of those three do you have a favorite? I’m so sad UNT has become unavailable☹️, it’s the only one I’ve ever used.

I am going to try this. For some reason I keep getting a dip in between my cuticle and where my nail tip extension is. I have tiny nails and I don’t bite them but they are very hard to grow I have to use tips just to get them the same length as your nails.

That’s mainly used under nail polish, as nail polish tends to be a very thin overlay. Gel, acrylic, etc isn’t as thin and doesn’t require ridge filling, as it’s all covered up 💞

I adore the ünt peelable because it works much better for my nails than Holo Taco. Have a reserve of Vanessa Molina Peel Off Free Ammonia that I’ve never tried so I better give it a shot now. 🥺
Hey Marla, so I got a cheap dip kit just to check it out and see if it's for me because you make it look so easy 😆 So far I like how hard it gets cuz my Naturals are super thin, but it looks like I have to activate in between layers or else it never dries. Am I doing something wrong or is it just because it's a cheap kit?
Serious question: My very first dip polish I had done in a salon and they destroyed my nail! I've learned and now I'm doing my own and the first third of my nail is healthy, but the other 2/3 is horribly destroyed to the point that I have spoon nails. So, instead of doing that partial initial dip, can I use it side to side to fill the spoon part, buff and shape gently, and then use this technique?
That’s the million dollar question! The answer is a simple one. Keep everything as clean as possible! Wipe the brush on a clean paper towel after it touches the nail. Don’t dust excess powder near the bottles. Say a prayer to the nail gods! 🙌🏻

I never got to try UNT peel off base, and it’s still unobtainable as far as I can tell. I picked up Sparkle & co’s peel off base. Do you have an opinion on that one? What are your back ups to UNT? Have you tried any peel off gel bases that require curing?

First, your quite funny about, you do you. Secondly, I'm nervous about using a peelable polish. I'm fear my nail will come off too soon. I get you leave edges but that's why we rough up our nails for product to stick. I know this has nothing to do with this video. This is the first one I have watched.
I can 100% appreciate your fear. And it definitely happens! Peel base is really dependent on your own body chemistry and water - the more oily you tend to be, or the more water exposure you have to water, the more likely they are to pop.

Hey love! I’m sorry if I was unclear! You only need activator if you’re using dip liquids. You don’t need it for gels.

Is there another method to build apex without dip? Gel polishes? Dips seem to dislike me 😔
You can definitely use builder gel! Gel polish isn’t thick enough to build with
Hey Marla, so I got a cheap dip kit just to check it out and see if it's for me because you make it look so easy 😆 So far I like how hard it gets cuz my Naturals are super thin, but it looks like I have to activate in between layers or else it never dries. Am I doing something wrong or is it just because it's a cheap kit?
Which kit was it? I’ve used some that are like that - they’re horrible

@@MotherTruckinReptiles it’s likely a bad activator. There are way better kits! Grab the modelones or beetles on Amazon. They’re both great!
Serious question:
My very first dip polish I had done in a salon and they destroyed my nail! I've learned and now I'm doing my own and the first third of my nail is healthy, but the other 2/3 is horribly destroyed to the point that I have spoon nails.
So, instead of doing that partial initial dip, can I use it side to side to fill the spoon part, buff and shape gently, and then use this technique?
Yes! Absolutely. You can build your nails however you see fit! You can use the dip kinda like spackle to fill in my dips in the nail.
what thin file do you use for the cuticles

What was the gel top coat you used and does it require curing
That was modelones gel top coat and yes, it requires a lamp to cure! 💕
How do you keep the brush from getting hard from the powder?
I use Kiara Sky and wonder if the one you use would be better….?
That’s the million dollar question! The answer is a simple one. Keep everything as clean as possible! Wipe the brush on a clean paper towel after it touches the nail. Don’t dust excess powder near the bottles. Say a prayer to the nail gods! 🙌🏻
You cured the glitter section before you put the gel base on right?

I never got to try UNT peel off base, and it’s still unobtainable as far as I can tell. I picked up Sparkle & co’s peel off base. Do you have an opinion on that one?

Ooh yeah.. don’t use the sparkle and co one. I have tried gel peel base.. didn’t really work well for me. I’ve been loving the revel peel base lately tho! Lmk if you need a link or a discount code!
@@MarlaKris all my dip products are from revel so that works perfectly! If you happen to have a link, that would be terrific. Just curious: why is Sparkle&Co's version a no go? (I had a nail pop off after 24 hours, but I applied the peel base too generously. It is ok to use this one until I get the revel peel base? Or is it damaging?🤔

Hi ! I think in video you mentioned you encapsulate with gel, wipe and then file/buff? Why would you file/buff down the gel layer ? Or file and then encapsulate ?
I use the gel to protect the color so when I file, I don’t remove any pigment off the nail 💞

First, your quite funny about, you do you. Secondly, I'm nervous about using a peelable polish. I'm fear my nail will come off too soon. I get you leave edges but that's why we rough up our nails for product to stick. I know this has nothing to do with this video. This is the first one I have watched.
I can 100% appreciate your fear. And it definitely happens! Peel base is really dependent on your own body chemistry and water - the more oily you tend to be, or the more water exposure you have to water, the more likely they are to pop.
I want to see a video of an apex created on someone who doesn’t have one. This is not that. Disappointed
