The very first time I tried dip powder nails it was a disaster! The instructions were incomplete and my nails were such a goopy mess I removed them right away. Then a couple of weeks later one of your videos was recommended to me and I learned sooo much! I've been a subscriber ever since! Thanks for all your amazing content 👍
So I decided to try again on dip powder. I watched your videos and then tried. I'm still getting very bumpy polish after. I did think that the less product tip worked better, but I still don't know what I'm doing wrong. I'm going to do them again tonight with your instructions on prepping. Thank you.
Hey you, I’ve been using OPI products since about the end of the 80’s…that’s all mother would buy. As for their dip powder, way to expensive, like you said the jars are too big, their brushes are the same style they were using in their nail polish way back in the day. Lol idk if that’s true but it sure looks like. I have my favorite dip companies, and they are all small businesses. Sassy mouth, confidips (lots of solid colors and some very pretty glitter) mamamakesherowndips, and there are a few I look at every once in a while that are from CA. If you have any suggestions please give them to me! Sassy mouth has been the best so far and so I’d like to know your opinion on other small businesses to check out. Of course azure beauty and their liquids is tops. Modalones close second..big companies tho. See ya in your next video!
This system is my favorite! I get an extra week, totaling over three weeks with these liquids! Before, i would get 1.5-2 weeks. I also find the is mani is a lot quicker because i don’t need to build an apex for strength. No apex-less layers-less time for me! I’d be interested for you to put your favorite liquids on one hand and the OPI on the other with no peely base coat, and see which mani lasts longer! Ps I’ll take your liquids since they aren’t your favorite 😉😂
Marla!! How did you know this was exactly the video I needed in my life? My dad unexpectedly passed away almost a month ago (June 13th, heart attack, but he was heading downhill quickly with late stage Alzheimers and it's honestly a blessing that he has been relieved from his suffering). Suffice to say, I've been in a grieving nail funk. This exact process you showed here (ünt on natural nails and dip) is what I was already planning to do when I finally feel ready to play with my nails again. Saving this for reference. Thanks girlfriend. See you around the Mani Fam group 🩷
Oh my heart 😔 we’re in the same club. I lost my dad years ago. I’m so incredibly sorry, sweetheart. You funk as long as you need to. Just know you’re not alone. I’m right here with you 🩷
My heart hurts reading this. My Dad passed away April 2nd 2016. I wouldn't wish anyone this grief an pain. My heart is with you. ❤ I started doing my nails almost 5 years ago and this video is so satisfying to watch as I loooove dip powder and have been doing them on my natural nails. I did mine tonight again with a milky white tone.
OPI is my favorite dip powder! I find the OPI liquids are the only ones that will give me longevity and no lifting, but I have had issues with the brushes getting hard more easily than others. I like the thin layers I get with the Azure liquids, but I do get lifting after about a week when using them. Since I like doing my nails every week anyway, I still use them, but if I need my set to last a little longer, it’s OPI for me! Definitely a personal preference on any liquids, I think. ❤
I really appreciate this video. It's been a hot sec since I did dip, but this was a great refresher and thanks for trying the OPI (so I don't have to!). Also, Chelsea at Sip and Dip is fantastic - both of you are my go-tos for new stuff to try!
Had gel nails for years (always used nail tech). Wanted to try the dip powder. Ordered AzureBeauty to do myself. Just watched your video (several times) and tried one nail (thumb - non-dominant hand). It worked better than I expected. I’ve watched several videos and yours was the most helpful. YAY. I might be hooked and save $$. Thanks!
I bought the OPI dip system about two months ago from Beyond Polish. I haven't used it yet except for the clear. Watching this to inspire me to try it. I've only done one dip set ever, and that was Nailboo (w/OPI clear), and I used peel base. Thank God for peel base. 😂 I am familiar with OPI from their past collaboration OPI by Sphora gel polish system. That was my intro to gel polish and I loved it. I think I have almost every color they put out. I never used anything else until I just bought the Nailboo gel kit a few months ago. Now I want to go play with my OPI dip set. It looks like the powder is much finer so I should get much better results than with the Nailboo dips. Thanks @marlakris!
I've only used glass on natural nails for the last 10 years. Love them! The files are great because you don't have to worry about what direction you're filing with. It's so gentle and I've never worried about splitting or peeling. If you got OPI dip from Walmart, I'm super impressed with your Walmart!!! We here in the boonies barely have any gel polish and only two colors of dip that both come in a cheap system. GREAT info on the top coat. I always have SO much trouble with dip top. I followed your advice about buffing the *&$% out of them, which helped, but the final was so dull. I'll try this activator and then 2 coats next time.
What a helpful video! I have to admit that I've gotten away from dips since I discovered press ons. This makes me want to try again and see if I can perfect nails the way you do. Thanks for this! 💕😀😀💕
I would love to try dip, but afraid of what to do AFTER they grow out, do you remove completely? Is there a way to “fill in”? Would love to learn!❤ thanks
Hey Marla, happy Monday! Thanks for the refresher on dip, can always pick up a thing or 2. Only ever used OPI regular nail polish, not looking to spend that kind of money. Have a great one!
Thank you for this video I still don't know how you put it in your free edge and didn't get it on your skin? II'm new to dip and gel diy and I've been trying to wait for my nails to grow out some more The problem seems to be I break one and have to wait even longer!! If I can figure out how to to the free edge clean I would love to start I watch Chelsea Deview too Love her DO'S and DON'TS section I've shopped and binge watched you both!
Of course it depends on your natural nail length but I find that pulling your skin in front of the nails tight really help to keep product off the skin. Omg Chels is amazing!! I just adore her!
SAME!!!! We watch these videos and feel like we know u guys. For a split second I thought…. I gotta text her, why has this never been part of my life 😂😂😂
Hi Marla. I like OPI. Thats all I was using was OPI Dip, but I soooo agree with you, it takes so long to dry. and very expensive OMG..I was so glad I found you. I started doing Gel CND Shellac and I love it. NOW YOU have me into ModelOne Dip much more reasonable and I like it!!!! I'm going to try the Gel next..... Love you videos so much...... Thank you💓💓💓
Advice please. My husband was talking to me when I was doing my nails. I accidentally used top coat on 4 nails before I realized it wasn't activator. Do I need to remove everything on those 4 and start over or can I save them?
Beautiful like always 🥰 I’m still shy about using the dip powder again…I’ve been using Dazzle Dry. I love polishing my nails. It’s very relaxing especially while looking and listening to nail UA-cam videos!😍 Thank you for all you do Marla!! ☺️
No, Marla, really, say how you feel about the dip base coat 😂 Love your humor as much as your nail content. You make me laugh and there are few things that do of late. TY ❤️
Hi Marla! I don't have a nail question. My question is, where did you get that rose colored ring on your right hand? I couldn't stop staring at it. It is beautiful!
Build is a clear powder. It can be used under color if you prefer to file off and fill in OR over color to protect it while finish filing. I prefer the latter, but it’s really up to personal preference!
Hi Marla! I absolutely love all your videos! I have learned a lot from you. I am super excited to make press on tips work for me. I've been doing dip powder for a few years now and am very fatigued with the application, filing, removal... So, seeing your tips and seeing how fast it might be...as well as easier removal...I was sold! But, my first attempt, I hadn't even got them on yet, and the thumb cracked. I was trying to file it a bit on the side and I noticed a crack going through it. How does this happen on tips? Also, I was holding up finished tips to my nail bed and I noticed how much bigger they were with all the product on them. Wondering if I should have sized smaller to allow for all the dip layers? Would gel not be so bulky? Thank you again, for all your help! You're awesome!
I really appreciate your videos on dip powder. I just started doing dip in January and haven’t had too many problems except for lifting at the cuticle. At about 10 days in I get little cracks on the sides, the lifting starts then a whole piece cracks off. I’ve done all the prep you mentioned. Any tips to stop this? Thanks for all you do!
Hey love! That can be due to the product being too thin in those areas or perhaps during application, you got some product on the skin. If you’re being SUPER careful about your liquid application, then it’s likely the former. Try adding another dip or layer of clear over top. That can help to prevent the cracking issue 🩷
I do two dips of color and one of clear……thanks to your tutelage 😊. I’ll definitely pay more attention to coverage on the sides from now on. Thank you!!
I put my comment in the the first comment in the list with the lumpy bumpy nails, ugh…it’s the second time I’ve done that! On someone’s comment feed. I was reading them and then went straight into my thoughts I guess. I hope you find it 😢😮
I need this color in my life! Also I’m soo happy you have given the glass cuticle pusher a try!! You know I love me some OPI 🫣🤣 I like the thickness they provide but that definitely makes sense it’s not your fav since the Azures are thinner 🙌🏼 both 2 of my fav liquids for different reasons 😆

Power to the nublets! 😂
When I go to the salon for dips, they put my hands in the gel curing device for the top coats. Have you heard of that?
Yep! They’re probably using a gel top coat. I tend to do the same - it’s just glossier than dip top coat

You totally can! It’s just personal preference.
Is the 1st liquid the same as a regular polish?
Noooo (I’ve made this mistake) it’s actually more similar to nail glue
@@MarlaKris oh. Would it be okay to use regular nail polish first, then the base coat? My bare nails are a bit sensitive. 😅
@@Pupperpie you can BUT the dip base and powder won’t adhere very well. They’ll likely pop off within a few days
