There is also the fact that it’s hard to compare QBs from different eras. The rules have changed so as to give so much advantage to the passing game and the stats reflect that. And QBs last longer and are healthier because it’s become basically illegal to hit them in the pocket.
That's why Superbowl rings has more weight than stats. Stats will be affected by rules and evolution of the game. Winning has to do with dominating your peers.

As a 54 year old and longtime fan of the NFL, I've lived through multiple dynasties and many great QBs. I was always privy to Montana as a Notre Dame fan even though I am a GIants fan and I still maintain he's one of the greatest. I feel as if the younger generations don't really enjoy the sport anymore as much as they like to argue about trivial things, instead of just appreciating the greatness in front of you. Everyone is a fraud now or was carried by his team or something to that effect. Mahomes is one of the most talented QBs I've ever seen and I just enjoy and appreciate his greatness while he's playing. That's just how I feel. I don't need to debate who's the GOAT or whatever.
I'm 52 and saw all of these guys too. Mahomes is the most "inevitable" QB I've seen since Elway. Maybe he will be the best once it's all said and done, but yeah, it does seem folks don't appreciate what they see for what it is. Bradshaw was my guy as a Steelers fan in the 70s, but is he the GOAT? Who cares?
The best thing about the goat debate is that people like you give us 20 minutes of content. And we all get to argue about it. Like it used to be in the college football National championship debate. Good times good times
I’m old enough to remember the Joe Montana era and, despite me being a longtime Chiefs fan, I’ve always felt he was the greatest QB I’ve ever seen play.
As a fellow Bears fan I will gladly take just one ring from either Fields or Williams to go with at least a 4000yd season and 30 PTD 😭 If only we had the chance to draft a guy like Mahomes… wait, what was that, we did. We even traded up in that draft… and we still didn’t pick him 😡 At least we have the Lions and Vikings in our division… they don’t even have a 1985 to keep going back to 😜
Fellow Bears fan for over 40 years. How have the Bears not even accidentally had a star quarterback in their history? It don’t make sense. They should draft a QB every single draft until they figure it out.
@@jimmyjams9036 another lesser talked about one… 2005 draft all the buzz was “who would go #1- Smith or Rodgers?”. Yes they drafted Grossman in the 1st round two years prior, but he still hadn’t proven anything. We had the #4 pick and despite being terrorized by Favre for the last 13yrs and Manning and Brady showing that you needed an excellent QB to be successful Jerry Angelo said “let’s pretend it’s 1985 again and hope this Cedric Benson is the next Walter Payton.” 🤦♂️ Adding insult to injury they still picked a QB that year in the 4th round, but it was the marvel of mediocrity that was Kyle Orton 🤣 And go figure that guy we passed on would make us yearn for the years when Favre didn’t quite own us as much 😭
I'll never understand why people look at the Dee Ford play, with Gronk bricking the pass off his hands, and react as if Brady threw it directly to the defense
More than anything else, people who obsess over this question strike me as people who are completely unable to just enjoy the moment for what it is. As a Chiefs fan, I'm still over the moon on Mahomes' previous Super Bowl victory because I'm still floored that he did it on one leg. Dude could've retired after that season and I wouldn't have cared that he wasn't the GOAT because I'm not sure I'm ever going to see something more impressive than that in my life. Just savor the moment. You don't need to get emotionally attached to things that haven't even happened yet. It also just cheapens the whole idea of an "all-timer" if you're so eager to apply the label so quickly.
I’m a patriots fan and I don’t think Brady is a top 10 qb all time. Got carried by the greatest coach, defenses, and system in history. Put 10-15 other quarterbacks with more talent and leadership in that system with those weapons/defense, Bill gets more than six with the Pats and said qbs have way better stats than check down Brady ever would. Brady goes to any other system other than New England, he’s a .500 qb, not awful, just average (Kirk, Alex Smith, Tannehill, etc.) and there’s a reason he was a 6th round pick. No talent, hard to work with, whiner, and needed luck to achieve his stats and wins. No goat should have to rely on luck as much as he did. Only raw skill

Good info and good opinions in the video. I agree, Mahomes isn’t the goat (yet) but just let the man play and we will see where the chips land.
It feels sports media has always been like this with QBs that win early. Watch any sports program from the mid 2000s and Brady was already getting GOAT talks after his first 3 Super Bowl rings.
@@mike9031Exactly. Some may find it annoying but the statistics, awards, and rings all prove Mahomes’ historical greatness. He has no peers at the moment. With another ring, he would officially become the second greatest QB behind Brady
@@marcusjenkins5371I agree and Mahomes deserves so much credit for what KC has accomplished despite roster turnover, but I find it annoying when we give GOAT distinctions to guys who’s careers aren’t even half over. There was a time when Manning was seen as a perennial choker, when Steve Young was just Montana’s backup and Johnny Unitas was on the Steelers. All those guys became all-time great QBs in time. On the other side, you have guys like Marino who seem like they’ll own the NFL after 1984 or Aikman winning 3 Super Bowls in his first 7 seasons and never winning a playoff game after that. Basketball/NBA is even worse about this, but it feels like we are so quick anoint someone as ‘a GOAT’ to the point that it doesn’t feel that important anymore. We don’t know what will happen in the future. Let’s see where we’re at in 10 or even just 5 years later. Mahomes may have 8 rings, maybe he’ll only have 3.
@@marcusjenkins5371 no he wouldn’t dummy. Montana is still better, 4-0 in the Super Bowl, threw 100+ rating in every single game, 12 TDs and ZERO interceptions
14:35 I feel the same way about Drew Brees. Guy battled through injuries and shitty ass seasons thanks to poor defensive play yet broke almost all the QB records. But he only got one ring and the most impressive records he had got passed by Brady cause he lasted a few more seasons. Had he gotten that second ring back in the '17-'21 era, I think he'd be recognized more in the greatest QBs conversation. But he didn't and now will be overshadowed significantly.
It really is a stupid argument, especially in a team sport(though baseball is more of a team sport than football). No quarterback can lead a comeback if the defense doesn't get a stop.
exactly. having a goat in basketball makes sense because one player can make all the difference between winning and losing and one player regardless of position can dominate the game individually on both sides of the court. in football it's just stupid to try and say someone is the goat bc there's so many positions and two different sides of the ball. baseball to a lesser extent (I don't think it's as stupid to say someone is the goat in baseball bc players play both offense and defense unlike football)
Which is why Brady fanboys/racists were so desperate to create ones - hence a completely and utterly false rumor about Mahomes "testing positive for steroids after Super Bowl LVII" trended last year! 🤬🤬🤬 That's a blatant admission by those people that they know there's no point in comparing cheaters to non-cheaters!
At least not yet, nobody questioned the pats rings until spy gate got dropped in 2007 and deflate gate happened in 2014 AFC championship the rings they won after we know for a fact those balls were under lock and key
The #1 that separates Mahomes from Lamar and Allen is brains. He’s smarter. Period. He’s got those Peyton /Brady smarts. Talent will only get you so far - gotta have IQ to be clutch.
Its crazy how the Bills are 2 plays away from beating the Chiefs twice but the narratives have no nuisance. I'd be suprised if Mahomes gets more than 2 more Super Bowls tho. So many insanely good young QBs in the AFC. Way tougher competition than what Brady had imo
Love your channel man! Everyone as a fan has bias I like how you use yours as comic relieve while stating the facts. keep up the great content and we will watch!!!
Tom Brady is the GOAT, but Mahomes can BECOME the GOAT if he keeps this up. I lived through watching football from the1970s to now. Montana could still be a valid argument as the GOAT with 4 Super Bowl wins and NO INTERCEPTIONS, which is INSANE, but Brady, in fairness, eventually surpassed him. Mahomes is performing his greatness faster than probably anyone else, though. Because he's so young, yep, he CAN become the GOAT.
I am old enough to have watched all three of them, and going back as far as Bradshaw and that generation of Quarterbacks. Yeah, I am old… but I don’t have Biden brain yet… As of right now… 1. Brady 2, Montana 3. Mahomes … but he’s doing amazing things. Oh and awesome work … Let’s Go Brandon and FJB too.
I cannot agree that any other QB in the league has the mental toughness of Mahomes. You can see in his dimeanor that he never believes the game is lost until time runs out. That SB loss against Tampa proved it to me more than any of his wins. He was determined to win that game by himself even when his team was letting him down.
Age for age, season for season, nobody is close to Mahomes. If Mahomes and the Chiefs have the same success over the next 15 years that’s they had in 5 years, Mahomes will still be the Goat. He has 15 years to accomplish what he’s done in a third of that time. Think about that.

I'm not projecting goat status. If he couldn't play another game he's better. If you put him on the Brady teams he wins put tom on the chiefs he doesn't win shit.
In the super bowl era it's Patrick Mahomes. Not just bc he's my teams QB. The real G.O.A.T is Otto Graham. He appeared in the same amount of championship games as Brady did super bowls. And Otto won the same amount. In only ten years. Otto won all championships with one team. The Cleveland Browns+Otto played when football was extremely rough. Not! the cookie cutter league Tom Brady cultivated. Now that Brady isn't playing he wants to speak out against all the nonsense.
I've been saying this for 20 years. Tom Brady is not even top 5 in my GOAT rankings. The one thing that Brady has that, imho, puts him in the conversation, is his longevity and consistency, not his rings. Rings are a team stat. The list of QB's I'd take over Brady: Mahomes, Rodgers, Peyton, Brees, Montana, Marino, Elway, Young, Warner, Kelly, Moon, Tarkenton, and Dawson. Take any team Brady was a part of, replace him with any of those QB's, and you'll have a better team. I'd go so far as to say that Brady's first three rings, and his last one, were won despite him, not because of him.
@@pfhobia what’s there to refute? Your argument is invalid and shows you know nothing about football. I’m sorry you’re still salty about Brady after all these years. Sad.

His loss to the patriots in 03 & 04 were on him, to the Steelers in 05, to the chargers in 07 & 08, the Saints in 09, jets in 2010. His defenses played good enough to win those games and he didn’t come through. That’s not to say that Brady doesn’t have games like that because he does but he also has a lot more games where he came through than Manning does.
As a football fan I am sick of this debate. I know it gets ratings but football is my favorite precisely because it's a team sport and now they're injecting that NBA basketball star oriented filth into the game of football when the reason so many of us like football is for the teams. It's just tiring.
As a 57 year old, I remember singing a made-up song in slow pitch softball. "Are you the hero or the goat?"?

It's a debate because the talking heads need stuff to talk about
Exactly this. The media need individuals to discuss in order to create buzz.
And most of them think the sport didn't exist until they first saw it.
Your show is so good 😂 keep doing what you’re doing!
I love how every year people like you pick the Bills over the Chiefs headed into the playoffs, passionately arguing that they are the better team and that it’s finally Allen’s moment. Only to retroactively spew nonsense about Allen being at such a disadvantage in roster talent.
I was always told that Ali started the GOAT talk, before Jordan, Gretsky and Brady!!!

There is also the fact that it’s hard to compare QBs from different eras. The rules have changed so as to give so much advantage to the passing game and the stats reflect that. And QBs last longer and are healthier because it’s become basically illegal to hit them in the pocket.
And yet offences were down leaguewide the last two seasons

Old guy here. The best comment I’ve read about comparing Brady to MaHomes is this. Brady is the GOAT, MaHomes is the “little GOAT.”
It's a dumb debate. He's only played six seasons and won 3 superbowls. He's the best qb of his generation. But let's just enjoy what we're watching and let it unfold
The extra game modern players have per year is definitely more about ad revenue than inflating stats lol
I'd rather Mahomes be labeled the goat over brady. Brady was so vanilla and boring to me, while i actually have fun watching Mahomes. I hope he surpasses Brady
He needs 10 SBs and a 3peat for consideration.
One of these debates are ridiculous in themselves. But what has made them ridiculous is ESPN and the endless sports media conversation obsessing on these debates has gotten fans obsessed with what should be casual conversation.
I gotta say it was very special to see Elway present the Lombardi 😂

Thank you Brandon P.! What you shared is very educational and helpful, especially the final drive stats.
I agree it’s the laziest, easiest conversation for these sports talk shows and they do it seems like almost monthly
Not just sports
It’s everywhere
I'm proud of the growth and maturity you displayed in this video ;)
I’m old enough to remember the Joe Montana era and, despite me being a longtime Chiefs fan, I’ve always felt he was the greatest QB I’ve ever seen play.
This truly was one of your best videos yet. Getting really good at this "Balls Deep" thing.
The funny thing is Mahomes would be the first guy to credit his teammates
Give Manning the Pats D every year and he wins more than 7 rings. They were top 10 all but 2 years.
Not to mention Moss, Gronk, Edelman, Welker, Hernandez, Evans, Godwin, the list goes on

As a Bears fan, I will gladly sleep on a Bear mattress. Hopefully the right one arrives the first time lol
As a fellow Bears fan I will gladly take just one ring from either Fields or Williams to go with at least a 4000yd season and 30 PTD 😭
If only we had the chance to draft a guy like Mahomes… wait, what was that, we did. We even traded up in that draft… and we still didn’t pick him 😡
At least we have the Lions and Vikings in our division… they don’t even have a 1985 to keep going back to 😜
Fellow Bears fan for over 40 years.
We had the #4 pick and despite being terrorized by Favre for the last 13yrs and Manning and Brady showing that you needed an excellent QB to be successful Jerry Angelo said “let’s pretend it’s 1985 again and hope this Cedric Benson is the next Walter Payton.” 🤦♂️
Adding insult to injury they still picked a QB that year in the 4th round, but it was the marvel of mediocrity that was Kyle Orton 🤣
And go figure that guy we passed on would make us yearn for the years when Favre didn’t quite own us as much 😭
It all depends on who is the mattress packer, since they own the bears
I'll never understand why people look at the Dee Ford play, with Gronk bricking the pass off his hands, and react as if Brady threw it directly to the defense
The fact you used Adam Sandlers comedy CD shows how old we are
The fact that I laughed and rewinded to listen to it a 2nd time definitely shows how old I am

you're an incredible writer lmao love the content

It feels sports media has always been like this with QBs that win early. Watch any sports program from the mid 2000s and Brady was already getting GOAT talks after his first 3 Super Bowl rings.
@@mike9031Team. Accomplishment. How many times do you idiots have to hear this before it registers?
@@mike9031yeah exactly
I vote this video as the GOAT of videos. 😂😂😂 GOAT conversations are dumber than debating with Cowboy fans. Love ya, Scooter.
Also Mahomes has no controversies surrounding his wins. No Spy-gate, No Deflate-Gate
Which is why Brady fanboys/racists were so desperate to create ones - hence a completely and utterly false rumor about Mahomes "testing positive for steroids after Super Bowl LVII" trended last year! 🤬🤬🤬
That's a blatant admission by those people that they know there's no point in comparing cheaters to non-cheaters!
At least not yet, nobody questioned the pats rings until spy gate got dropped in 2007 and deflate gate happened in 2014 AFC championship the rings they won after we know for a fact those balls were under lock and key

The GOTE solution is a GOAT solution

I just want to stop the video and tell you that I died when you put on the Adam Sandler goat. I hadn't heard that in 20 years and still quoted it word for word. What a gem.
I’m going to guess you’re a fan of one of the teams that Brady routinely throttled for 20 years straight. Show me on the doll where Brady hurt you
