Commies either trading up with the Bears for Caleb or taking Drake at 2. It would be hilarious though if JJ somehow jumped to the top of the draft boards. Trade up with the Bears and draft McCarthy. 🤣

@@leehurst172he’s running the Ditka Offense of the ‘80’s. His stats were similar to JJ’s
My take on McCarthy is this: If he is brought into the NFL and developed behind another starting QB1 (Green Bay's process, as an example) he could turn out to be a good QB. If he's just thrown to the wolves too early he'll probably turn out like Zack Wilson.
This is what me and the other Michigan fanbase has said. He will need time to develop and get familiarized with this level.
I'm ngl, the lions could draft him and he could be really good. Jared Goff is an elite passer and could definitely teach JJ some things. We also have a very strong run game that's actually the exact same as the michigan run game. Monty is a short yardage back like corum, and Gibbs is a shifty and electric back like Edwards. If McCarthy develops under goff we could have something special.
but then again we dont really need a QB and there's nothing wrong with goff tho. it'd just be nice to have mccarthy.
Nooooo way he's a punk like Zack Wilson. Zack Wilson is cancer, he's too immature to ever be an NFL starter. JJ is a winner, period.
So what you're saying is that the Jets should draft him. So he can study behind Aaron Rodgers for a year.
That's the usual story isn't it, sit behind and learn. Thing is, NFL starting QB's were dropping left and right last year, so the chance of having to start even as a rookie is always going to be there. True, there are better situations for rookie QB's but in the end, you either got it, or you don't. Look at CJ Stroud as an example. At the same time you also have the Josh Allen example, where it took him a couple years. Whatever the situation, coaching, management, fans, ownership need to give them time. Seems like 2 years is the standard lately to either show it or not.
The McCarthyism reference was gold 😂. Hopefully he doesn’t cause a red scare..
There was no “scare”, he never missed once.

This is where you can't make a stupid Tom Brady comp just because they were both at Michigan and didn't do a lot in college. Brady was part of a 2 QB system but had flashes in college of being a comeback king. He also fell because of his horrible physique and concerns about his athleticism. 6'4 3/8", 211 lb is pretty thin.
Brady was also drafted by a Super Bowl roster and only played because Pro Bowl caliber starter Drew Bledsoe got injured, a similar style of dropback passer meaning they had a quality OL in place. I highly doubt JJ goes to a quality roster, and highly doubt he gets to sit and develop.

As a Michigan fan, I could see JJ going to Broncos ngl
Saaame.
Why would the Broncos draft Desmond Ridder 2.0? I've never seen a guy get more praise for riding the coattails of his teammates. Take away Blake Corum and Michigan goes 9-4 with wins over the insignificant. Let's also not forget the Connor Stalions situation and how much he may have benefited from CHEATING! Take your asterisk and stop trying to convince people that Zach Wilson, I mean Trey Lance 🤦♂️ Paxton Lynch..? JJ* is anything more than a paper tiger 🗑

He...didn't have limited starting time in college? Two seasons and 28 games. He started more college games than Mahomes, Allen, Stroud, etc. Not sure where you're getting "limited" starting experience from.
Michigan fan here. I can say that the JJ experience at Michigan is unlike anything I’ve experienced as a sports fan. Michigan’s identity as a power run team meant JJ never really needed to put up numbers but I’ll also say if Michigan was down late I trusted JJ entirely to make good reads and the right throws.
The McCarthyism bit was unexpectedly hilarious

So you logic is that a QB can only be good in the NFL if they are "losing QBs that lose" in college?
The point of meditation is shutting your thoughts off. It's underrated.
Brian Greise 2…. Wait for his back up!
For those born after 2000....Brady was Greise's backup
Glad your voice is sounding better Perna, great vid!
As a Michigan fan, he hit the nail on the head. JJ isn’t a bad player not in the slightest, but I think he needs a great system around him for him to succeed. He had arguably the best RB in the game and a top 5 O-line while at U of M.
Seahawks maybe at 16
Assuming that someone needs a great system because they had one is flawed logic. As the video stated, the number 1 QB in the country on 3rd down was JJ McCarthy. That is what matters in the NFL. Who can move the sticks. JJ has NFL level arm talent and is faster than average. Whoever drafts him will draft the QB who wins a Super Bowl.
Best QB in the draft. His clutch factor is what separates him from the rest of the class.
This always happens. Remember Zach Wilson? Stock rose with combine and it failed.
Totally different quarterbacks
Poor kid was drafted by the jets i hope he gets a chance somewhere else just to see.
@@brianjamds6617 Yeah Wilson was a lot better than him in college. That doesn't mean he won't be better than Wilson in the NFL, but their stats in college aren't even comparable.
@@TheClhWarrior
Totally different offenses, too- you need to go deeper than surface stats for a true comparison. McCarthy was much more efficient and accurate than Wilson in their final college seasons. He has comparable arm talent and better mobility than Wilson.
That said, I think McCarthy is probably the #1 pick and would’ve entered the league as a better pro by staying in school for one more year.
@@TheClhWarrior bro didn't play in like 8 4th quarters. His stats would have been insane if they wanted to pad them
A big reason why he has so few stats to count on is because he was regularly being pulled in the 3rd/4th quarter when it was clear that Michigan was going to win. If people recall before all of the Connor Stalions stuff, people were complaining about Michigan’s “cupcake” schedule. It took until the 6th game of the season for a team to post double-digits against Michigan (You go Minnesota, putting up 10 against Michigan’s 52!) and 11/15 of their wins were by 3 scores or more. While he easily could have stayed in the game and pummeled teams harder than they were already being pummeled, he chose to prioritize his health over his stats by not unnecessarily risking injury when the game was already won. I think that’s a big part of him that’s not being widely reported, which is the fact that he’s a complete team player. He’s had it instilled in him that sustained winning is the ultimate goal over personal accolades or stats, and the possibility of him being a self-interested diva seems extremely unlikely.
I doubt he had a choice, coaches make that decision and you better not be talking back to Harbaugh.
no one talks about this but instead slobbers over jayden daniels stats when he was playing in the 4th quarters of an fcs game and a 60 point blowout of army lmao
Bro really put cupcake in quotation marks as if michigan didnt have one of the easiest schedules the past 2 years 😂😂😂
Mccarthy is ass dude. He got carried by his defense, Corum, and cheating. Look what happened to him in the TCU game with no Corum. Look at how he threw for like 20 yards in the natty 😂
McCarthy ain’t an nfl qb I watched him play a lot of football the rest of that Michigan team is why they won
@@yearofthedawgs8581 I put cupcake in quotation marks to quote what people were saying, not being snarky about it. The entire next sentence I wrote after that proved my intent. Nowhere in my comment did I say that it wasn't an overall easy schedule.
For every bad performance you can bring up, I can counter with an incredible one. Look what he was able to do in 2022 against OSU without Corum. Look what he was able to do in the CFP against Alabama. And even then, in those games that you mentioned, JJ threw for 343 yards and 2 TDs against TCU and won a national championship against UW. It's certainly not JJ's fault that he had an incredible team around him.
And the accusations of them winning because of an easy schedule *and cheating aren't tenable. If you want to accuse them of winning a national championship because of their easy schedule, it wasn't because of their cheating. If you want to accuse them of winning a national championship because of their cheating, it wasn't because of their easy schedule. Stalions' actions were widely known and reported on by the MSU game, which from that point on was the decidedly non-cupcake part of the schedule. PSU, OSU, Alabama, and UW, with honorable mentions to Iowa and Maryland. The hardest game before the Stalions' revelations was Bowling Green. If you want to knock Michigan for something, pick one or the other because both at the same time just doesn't make sense.
I hope you like him because he is going to Denver
There’s just no way he falls that far down the draft 😅 they will have to trade up if they want him

I like JJ McCarthy the first time I saw him. He's better than most people think.
As a Michigan fan, McCarthy is one of the younger prospects in the draft. Also, he needs to sit behind a veteran QB and marinate first. I prefer him to be backing up Stafford but he'll be thrown into the game immediately on the Vikings, Raiders, or Broncos. That's my prediction
Why would you want to draft a Stafford replacement, dude is still elite and his arm is still the strongest in the league
@@halwa9528I would love for him to shadow Stafford, Rams are great at drafting and McVay is an amazing coach that's why
The Vikings sit their rookie QBs for as long as they can. He will sit behind Darnold, no matter how bad it gets unless Darnold gets hurt.
That russ fumble kills me lol😂
I believe JJ is gonna be a chameleon. He gonna be as good as his weapons, coaching, and defense(Brock Purdy esc). He is not a difference maker, he’s a late first round pick at best for me
So a first round pick isn’t a difference maker?
@@ryanlink8699 Not all of them. Also I said he’s a first round pick at best. Maybe a team that wants to develop him from like 27 to 32 would take him if they feel like he won’t be available at their next pick. Jalen Hurts was a 2nd rounder, now he would be a top 10 pick in his respective draft if u redrafted his class. It’s just not something I think a QB hungry team in the Top 15 would use their pick on JJ ( if they were smart) I think JJ’s range is between late 1st round and late 2nd round.
@@Money21415Tom Brady was a 6th rounder so...
You’ve just described all QBs. It is, after all, a team sport, and without time to throw and guys to throw to, all QBs fail. What makes a difference is how well QB uses the time and space they get.
McCarthy is an upgraded Brock Purdy at least physically.
Much stronger arm and quicker.
Justin Simmons Vid when?
Vikings fans here?
Maybe I’m crazy but I bet McCarthy is going to and up being the best Qb in the class
As a Michigan fan, I love that everyone is overlooking JJ. People think he’s overrated because he didn’t throw for 4000 yards and 50 touchdowns in a season. He has a total 75% completion percentage, undefeated against all rivals in his time as a starter, a 3 time Big Ten Champion, Rose Bowl Champion, and National Champion. What more credentials does he need to lift his stock? The draft is a joke.
I havent been watching football to to long but i definitely see draft as a joke.
you know, actually throwing the ball? 4th round talent being overhyped by everyone.
Dude wake up! Perna just dropped his JJ McCarthy video!

Looking for how JJ responds to chaos. See 2022 Michigan vs Ohio State in the Horseshoe. JJ carried the load when he had to in the biggest game of that season to that point.
Wheres my bbq invite pernee?? Those wings looked frickin GOOD!!
You failed to mention he is the only QB in this class who ran a pro style offense his whole career at Michigan which requires alot of checks at the line and changing of the plays and protections.
Man, thanks for the show.I never laughed too hard in my life.Dude you should be a comedian
JJ needs to go to a team as a QB2. Dude could be amazing but will probably fail if he is thrown to the wolves.

JJ McCarthy went to a high school which is like 20 mins away from where I go to school so it’s kinda cool to think that this guy might’ve played at my school. I’m routin for this guy, wish nothing but the best for him
Really reaching there 😂😂
Another factor in McCarthy is that Michigan's defense was so incredible for much of his time as the starter that he was rarely ever in a position where he even NEEDED to be in a shootout with another team. About the only time I can think of where he was in that position was in the 2022 CFP against TCU (which was perhaps fittingly his only loss as a starter and where he threw two back-breaking interceptions).
McCarthyism - wow that was a long way to go for that joke and I appreciate it 😂
Those lines you put up scream red flags for me. If I were a talent scout in the NFL, I'd go with someone more proven. There's a reason Alabama QB's don't typically work out.
I love how you always say time to go balls deep 😂😂
McCarthy looks like Sean Astin in Rudy
Mccarthy could easily become the best QB in this draft, or the biggest bust in this years draft, and this is coming from a Spartans fan.
He will bellyflop like no other quarterback if he goes to Denver. Anywhere else with an actually competent wide receiver might do the trick
McCarthy doesn’t make me feel his greatness.
He feels more like Connor cook.
Cook may have beat Kirk cousins’ win record at msu, but I never felt he was that good.
McCarthy feels similar to that when I watched him play.
It’s pretty easy to tell what QBs will succeed based on personality and psychology. Caleb Williams is on cloud 9 going to a bad franchise, so that’s an easy one to predict. McCarthy is gonna have a welcome to the nfl awakening that may derail his confidence. Daniels will struggle with pocket presence. Drake maye will probably be the most dependable and Bo nix will be the next Mac jones. Over the last decade the only QB I didn’t predict well was stroud and that was only because of my doubts on the Texans. I’m a giants and and we are better off getting a receiver in round one and going for a qb next year. Oh and I was a little wrong on Jamais Winston back in 2013. I thought he was gonna be out of the league after like 5 years
He reminds me of a mixture of Brady and Mahomes with the running ability of Vick.
(And I'm an unbiased Michigan fan)

As a Michigan fan, I can honestly say I think he'd be good with the Broncos. He is a capable passer, he's got the speed to run when he needs to, he rarely makes bad throws when tasked with throwing it. The stats aren't mind-blowing because he wasn't playing the full game half the time. Any time we got a big lead over lesser teams he was being pulled to let the backups get some reps. And when you have such a strong running game, you don't need to throw the ball a lot. I'm sure he'll do fine as a mid-1st round pick, maybe even late 1st at worst. The Broncos could benefit from having him there to hold down the fort, it's just a matter of can they not ruin him.
Brandon “I promise to get better at butt stuff” Perna

He can't throw to the left very well. He's OK at best.
I wouldn't bet on him to succeed in the NFL, I'd lose money.

I don't know shit about college football but I saw McCarthy's championship run this year and I'm a BELIEVER. Super talented player and thrives under pressure. Hopefully the Broncos can snatch it without paying up too much!
What i like about him is his feistiness, you kinda see it in his eyes. I do consider experience as a top 3 quality in a college QB entering the NFL, but at the same time i think he has the tools and the mindset to succeed regardless. Herbert didn't have the experience in anything resembling a NFL system either(Oregon tamed him like a zoo animal) and he was good from the get go.
Alright Perna. You've convinced me on this guy
I know everybody talks about the TCU game in 2022… but besides the 2 pick 6’s (one of which was a play he hated but the OC was an idiot) he kept bringing the team back and the defense kept selling. I think that game shows his grittiness and potential to be more than just a “game manager”
I take JJ as the first quarterback off the board. There's just something about him. I think he's going to have success
I love the idea of him sitting behind cousins!!!! Falcons would also be a good fit.
If I'm JJ McCarthy, im hoping and pleading for the Vikings to get me. Stacked receiving core, great line, will probably get a solid RB option in FA or the draft. Perfect landing spot imo.
JJ was better than Brady at Michigan and has elite potential. He shares alot of the traits Brady has in his demeanor, he’s not a diva, doesn’t care about his stats. If he goes to the right team he’s gonna be a pro bowler. I’m an avid Michigan fan and I can tell you he’s the real deal
