Novak Djokovic had one of the greatest tennis seasons ever, winning the australian open, french open, and getting to the us open final. He went 65-9 that year in total and won 7 titles. He beat every member of the big 3 in big tournaments that year beating federer in the australian open semi finals, nadal at the semis of Indian Wells, and murray on the australian open final. Even though he lost to wawrinka in the us open final it is one of the best years of novaks career, the highlight being him winning the french open to complete his career grand slam.
I think you’re confusing 2016 with 2015. 2015 was way better for Djokovic when he won 3 majors, the ATP finals, 11 total titles, and a 82-6 record. In 2016 he was only good up until the French Open. After that he fell off pretty significantly. He lost in the third round in Wimbledon and lost in the first round in the Olympics. The only reason he made the US Open final was because many of the players in his draw withdrew from injury and Wawrinka beat him fairly handily in the final. If anything 2016 was almost like 2 seasons within 1. The first half of the year Djokovic dominated with wins at the Australian Open and French Open and in the second half the season Murray dominated with wins at Wimbledon, the Olympics, and the ATP finals.
2016 started with David Bowie passing away (on the heels of Lemmy dying in late 2015). Nothing good happened ever again. They were the glue that held the original, good timeline together.

You left out the absolutely INSANE 100th Indianapolis 500 on May 29, 2016, where a rookie won the race via fuel mileage. He was so low on fuel at the end of the race he ran out of fuel in the last corner of the last lap, but had just enough of a lead that he was able to coast across the finish line. Virtually no one had heard of him before that day, but after that day, Alexander Rossi became a household name.
2004 is also one of the contenders for greatest year in sports : Red Sox reverse sweeping Yankees and ending their curse, Pistons shocking everyone by beating Lakers, Panthers and Patriots playing one of the greatest superbowls of all time, Tampa Bay winning Stanley cup for the first time during their first finals appearance, small teams like Porto and Monaco playing in UEFA champions league final etc.

And don’t forget about the 2016 Masters Golf Tournament, where Jordan Spieth held a five stroke lead with nine holes to play before collapsing with a quadruple bogey on the 12th hole and having a two stroke deficit by the 18th where he watched the First European to win the tournament since 1999 beat him - the defending green jacket owner. At the Open Championship in Troon Scotland, the first Scandinavian won a major golf tournament, beating Phil Mickelson by three strokes. The FedEx cup was even more competitive as there were 10+ golfers in the running after the points reset following the third tournament. It came down to playoff holes in a three way tie before Rory Mclroy won it all.
Portugal winning Euro 2016 in France against the host, Nico Rosberg winning F1 World Championship, Chile beating Argentina and sending Messi into retirement should be on here as well
In the world of Tennis, Andy Murray came out of nowhere and torched practically every tournament he entered, facing Novac Jokovic 5 times in finals matches and winning three (lost two grand slams the French in four sets, and Australian Open in straight sets. He won 9 tournaments overall including an Olympic Gold Medal, along with Wimbledon against hard hitting Canadian Milos Raonic. Finishing in the number one position for the first time in his career. Same. I feel sad for Luke Kuechly though. He deserved a ring. I still find it crazy that Gabbert is still in the league. In his long career he’s been mediocre at best, but usually plays below that. If you get benched for him, you have to know your NFL career is officially over.

I will literally never forget that moment that Rajai Davis hit that dinger. You are 100% correct though. If Cleveland had won 2 championships in a year, especially with the then indians doing it in game 7 in Cleveland, everything within a 50 mile radius of Cleveland likely would have been wiped from the map.
I would prefer a more accurate representation of Kaep's kneeling. It originally started with him being demoted to 2nd string and sitting on the bench during the anthem. He sat on the bench during the anthem for a few weeks until a reporter noticed in a picture taken that he was sitting. They asked him about it and he responded it was in protest. Later, a teammate suggested he switch to kneeling to be more respectful.
Yes. Finally someone with the true story about Kaepernick. He didn’t originally kneel, he was sitting because he was bummed out about losing his job to Gabbert again. Most likely his then girlfriend told him to say he was protesting because she was a real activist.
Cleveland also won a title when Stipe Miocic won the UFC Heavyweight Title on May 16th. Also, we had our youngest Olympic wrestling champion when Kyle Snyder won gold at 97kgs at 20 years of age

Didn't we also win a minor league championship that year too?

Cubs winning the world series was the happiest day of my life. I only wish my dad was alive to see it.

2016 Open Championship at Royal Troon. Sunday was the greatest single round of golf I’ve ever seen. Phil and Henrik trading blows might’ve been better than the Duel in the Sun.
