This crew had a ride-a-long that they knew was posting on UA-cam and they still didn't belt up. Makes me wonder what they do when there is no camera around. Remember, you have to arrive on scene alive to make a difference.
+Pablo Escobar So, MY FRIEND, I'm confused. Are you are saying if they assume the cars are going to get out of the way on every emergency response, it's acceptable to not wear your seat belt?
centexF150 No, not at all. I'm saying the likely hood of them getting in an accident is far less since all the vehicles ahead have to slow down and move out of their way. When have you ever seen/heard of a fire truck getting into an accident?
+Pablo Escobar In 2014, the most recent complete statistics: 9 deaths and 3801 injuries from fire apparatus crashes in the United States. Likely enough that wearing a seat belt is not only a good idea, it sets the example to the rest of the motoring public that we are hoping to influence into making safe driving decisions.
Never been a fan of firefighters (career or vollie) responding in civies. Not a professional look, and it was one of the issues that investigators expressed when the PGFD firefighter/medic was shot and killed, and the volunteer wounded during a welfare check. When the FF breached the house door, many of them were in civies, and the investigators (including police) stated that the homeowner may have mistaken them for home invaders. He was not indicted. Hopefully the PGFD has put an end to that. That said, I grew up in DC and Chillum. Much love to PGFD, whether Volunteer or Career.
Imagine waking up to that alarm buzzer! What a frightening way to wake up.
