  • In this final video of my mini-series on bags, I walk you through an adaptation of the Koda Cross Body Bag pattern with no hardware required. This is for all of those quilters and sewists who are not sure they want to try bag making and are not prepared to invest in hardware at this stage. There are some sacrifices to be made - no zipper closure and no zipper pocket, but we can still make a super cute cross-body bag with things you already have in your sewing room.
The Koda Cross Body Bag pattern is a free pattern from Huff ‘n Cuffs. It was available for many years on the Huff ‘n Cuffs website (www.huffncuffs.com), but I noticed in about March 2024 that the website no longer exists. I’m not sure what happened. I normally would not post work from another creator, but because the pattern was offered for free for many years, I have posted it to my website in the section for Project Sheets for you to download. Thanks Cynthia - it was a bit brain bending, but I'm really glad it worked out to add some interest to the strap. Thanks for watching.

I love that you don’t always know the outcome before you try it on film (or at least that’s the impression) it gives great fun and suspense to the video! 🎉❤

Hi Ann - I do film in "real time" so I am usually trying something for the first time. But to be honest, I'll keep a failed attempt in a video if I manage to find a successful approach. Thanks for watching!

Awesome video Michelle, the turning string is a FANTASTIC “tool” to have in the quilting room. It can be used over & over again…..
Lovely bag too! Thanks! xoxo e. NB 🇨🇦

My grandmother made many garments and she showed me this technique many years ago.

Thanks Loretta! I like the ones with hardware better, but this is a great place to start if you want to try something without the investment in materials.

Great video, will definitely give your pull string (reusable) idea a try currently use a safety pin which has its own challenges

Hi Debee - I'm glad my pull string experiment worked out - I wasn't sure how I was going to get the strap to work out otherwise (and hadn't even thought of a safety pin!!). Thanks for your ongoing support!
